The final video from my recent trip to Montenegro. A failure of epic proportions. Do NOT do this while hitchhiking Patreon: / bentherules Follow me on Instagram: / bentherules_yt
Hey Ben, just wanted to say keep making this cool content! I'm a traveller from Scotland and I've been inspired by your channel to start making my own travel videos! Starting with none other than...Sarajevo and BiH! Thanks for the inspiration:)
I just watched your videos the other day, completely randomly suggested by TH-cam. Now I see your comment here it makes perfect sense :) Keep up your good work, I subscribed to your channel.
😂 that is fake shite, Croats had their language and writings on today Croatian while "Serbs" was talking on mixture of Russian/Bulgarian so its not nice to call Croatian language differently then Croatian. Servs lie as their satanic Church.
Try doing this but with a suitcase, a napsack, and a CPAP bag. Every year going to Croatia I run into a similar situation. If you go island hopping to some of the islands, sometimes it's next to impossible to get or call a taxi. The taxis don't want to go to the small towns, but the ferry's drop you off at a small port (even less than a village); just an outpost. Then you have to walk (with suitcase, napsack and CPAP back to find your BnB/apartmani. Just walk 500 meters up this mountainous road, then to your right, then keep going further along past the garbage bins, then 2 km up this road..... all in 39 degrees celsius temperature!!!
I did the same thing back in 2006. Trying to get from Herceg Novi to Dubrovnik. Next bus was coming in some 4 hours, so I decided to hitchike. Montenegrin car took me to the last village before the border, Croatian customs played game with me, long to explain it, and then I hitched a ride to Dubrovnik. All together it took some 3-4 hours. I wouldn't do it again, but would wait for the bus. Your video reminded me of that day.
You should have bought some thick paper at a bookstore and written 'To Dubrovnik (please)' on it with a marker. Instead of holding up a pack of cookies, hold the sign in front of you. It's more likely that someone would stop for you that way.
The area around the Airport ist called Konavle. It’s quite small but has its own culture kind of and is definitely a place to check out some time. There are also some nice sights like a caste and old water mills because there are seven rivers flowing through one forest. And in comparison it’s really empty. Everyone is at the coast but Konavle is a gem.
Futbol Klub Dečic Tuzi🇲🇪🇦🇱 just qualified for round 3 of UEFA conference league, Ben. Where were you?! Wish you were in Podgorica, Stari Aerodrom last night, the party in Tuzi went on till the early hours.
few years ago I picked up a French couple around this stretch of road, going north ti Dubrovnik. They were hitchhiking from Greece to France.. I was traveling Ljubljana - Kotor-Ljubljana for 2 weeks in a rented camoer van... lovely summer it was edit: I think they mentioned they couldn't get anyone to pick them up as well.. I'm surprised people won't pick up hitchhikers
I think it's become even worse with the migrations from recent years. A lot of illegal immigrants tried to smuggle across the border and people are wary of picking up strangers for this reason alone.
I can't understand why did you decide to hitchhike or grab a taxi and not cross the border by foot. It's not far away from lukoil to the montenegrin checkpoint so u might do it and then on the croatian land you should have ordered a bus or taxi and go to the airport quickly without any traffic. Last year i hitchhiked with my friend through the former Yugoslavia and i remember this border. There was the biggest traffic i've ever seen and people stay there in their cars for many hours but thank god because we were hitchhiking we just crossed the border by walk and we did 2 checkpoints in around 20 minutes
Maybe he saw Barbara Pit? Huda Jama. Bleiburg cemetary!! Still lots of mass graves full of women, children, civilians, and yes, unarmed soldiers in northern Slovenia. That was the genocidal work of Communist Tito's killing fields.
Never been to Norway so not sure, but the landscape is very similar to Lebanon IMO, with the beautiful green mountains that go into the sea. Plus the white stone houses with red rooves are similar looking, at least from a distance
No luck of hitch hike.. thankfully it did not rain.. I bet you if a Bosnian driver’s pass by then you could had some luck.. Ps: Why did the Bosnian driver pick up a hitchhiker? Because he wanted to show him the beautiful scenery in the country.

Ben I find your videos very entertaining, I hope your channel keeps growing and you continue to explore balkan countries. 😊
Sretno
This route might be a bit suspicious because of illegal passing by refugees. that's why people avoid picking up hitchhikers.
Fair enough, I definitely won’t be hitchhiking along that route again hahaha

Sounds like you had a bit more success than me. But yes, for that specific route/border a bus is definitely the way to go
wonderful video vlog Ben, I like it very much, you are absolutely amazing. Thank you.
That's poetry walking past cars that turned you down!Should have walked by eating biscuits.mmm
Montenegro seems like a chill place to get stuck
When u pulled out the biscuits I was like oh no they now all think that he wants to sell it
Hahaha fair point. I was desperate at that point
@@BenTheRules I think they were laughing because u are the first one they’ve seen that tried to sell Plazma
Kako si Ben big energy hug brate hvala for the new adventure I'll keep asking go to Rabac Istria Croatia 👍🇭🇷🇺🇸🙏
Keep asking me till I go there :) pozdrav

Good to know, I’ll check out Konavle when I’m in the region again soon

I understand not wanting to pick up a hitchhiker near a border especially. Not wanting to get too many questions from border agents, etc
I think it's become even worse with the migrations from recent years. A lot of illegal immigrants tried to smuggle across the border and people are wary of picking up strangers for this reason alone.
You were lucky it didn't start raining ... and btw you could have sensed that taxi wouldn't cross a Schengen border.
Makes sense that a taxi wouldn’t want to cross the Schengen border, but I didn’t know that before since I’m not often crossing Schengen borders

Yo Ben, i just touched down in the MNE/ ALB area. Holla at me b4 September
Hi Ben new to your channel.Fine content will look more...Just wondering did you visit WW2 camp Jasenovac in Croatia?(just curious.)
Maybe he saw Barbara Pit? Huda Jama. Bleiburg cemetary!! Still lots of mass graves full of women, children, civilians, and yes, unarmed soldiers in northern Slovenia. That was the genocidal work of Communist Tito's killing fields.
Damn I gonna be there in a couple of days :D :D
Yeah but you could take taxi from montenegro to dubrovnik airport for same money as you pay this😄
Aerodrom Dubrovnik nije daleko od centra grada.
Lebanon, what.. no. I see it more as Norway, in a smaller size.
Never been to Norway so not sure, but the landscape is very similar to Lebanon IMO, with the beautiful green mountains that go into the sea. Plus the white stone houses with red rooves are similar looking, at least from a distance
Tramping is not common in Ex-yu, next time ask at the gas station if someone can get u a taxi
Mr. Rules, any thoughts on Albania?
Seems like a beautiful place. No idea when I’ll be able to make it but I’ll get around to it at some point :)
@@BenTheRuleswell said broski. Well reach out if your coming down before September ‘24. Stay safe
@@BenTheRules Maybe you can learn albanian as well lol, it looks like a tough language. Speaking every balkan language would be a great achievement
It sucks
@@JedemPoKucamaok, maybe the record number of tourists 2023/2024 were lying
When was this filmed? Looks like mid/early June, since it doesn't seem that hot out there.
June 1, I believe
