No one asks for a bug free game, what's going on with Conan is that with each release we ONLY get new bugs. New bugs making new features unplayable, old bugs reappearing and new bugs on old content. How can anyone assume that Funcom wants these fixed when they have not even tried to fix a single one of them. My estimation for their goals with this is to just let it slowly die while making the minimal possible effort and squeeze whatever money they can out of RPers still playing the game. I love this game so much, even a small bugfix release would buy my respect back for them. But even that seems like an extremely optimistic scenario.

    • @YepImThatGuy66
      @YepImThatGuy66 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

I agree, its an old game and if the player base keeps dropping FC just isn't going to toss money at a sinking ship. I've pulled back from buying things from the bazar and why not, seems they don't really care to fix stuff.

    • @Eradicati0nn
      @Eradicati0nn  วันที่ผ่านมา +7

Agreed, even the features that worked fairly well on release have been forgotten because of the overwhelming bugs. AoH C1 is pretty much a bugs-only update 😂 They've tried to fix some of the bugs, the problem is that some of the fixes didn't work, they're too slow on the fix, and they're not really saying what they're doing to work on it.

    • @ziero01
      @ziero01 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

This is the result of Tencent taking control as they've done this to other games. They focus on adding and changing and dropping new things, but don't actually care about the long term health of the game by making sure those new additions work or that old bugs get taken care of. It's far easier, far more marketable and makes way more money, to add new things then it is to go back and fix old problems.
This game could bleed players left and right, have it's population drop to almost nothing, but in the end the casual player isn't who matters. They only players they care about are the ones who will drop money to buy stuff from the store and chances are...those players won't be leaving no matter how bad the game gets. They've already stuck through all the old bugs and bad changes so why bother fixing things when adding new "content" to play and new items to buy will continue to keep them playing a buggy mess of a game.
For the record, Conan Exiles was literally one of my favorite games. I played this for thousands of hours and fell in love with the entire survival builder genre because of this game. I happily double dipped on most of the old DLCS (on ps4 and PC) and were very supporting of Funcom back in the day. But after the buyout I knew the game wouldn't be the same and I'm sad to see I'm right. I dropped this game during the Age of War after the Purge "fixes". For every one good thing added, three bad things came along with it. And while I still to this day, have the urge to hop on, buy those new building sets and lose days of my time just making fancy houses, I have to refuse to play this because I know the overall experience at this point will not be fun.
What happened to this game is a tragedy.

The other issue is that they release their new "buggy updates" before things like spring break and winter break where you might have more time to play the game. Instead they drop the buggy update and peace out for 2 weeks while everything is broken.

I am a huge fan of Conan Exiles and would like to continue playing. Sadly, most of my friends who used to play the game with me have moved on to other games, primary due to all the bugs. Your review of last year was spot on. I would rather see no new enhancements to the game for the early part of 2025 if Funcom can just fix the existing bugs and make the game stable again.

YES! 100% I would be so happy for an update without any new content if even the biggest things can be fixed. I got on my single player world and at just one base there were 14 (yes I counted) thralls that were fallen through the mesh way down Ithe void.
I love the game but you are right that even when I have reported things it feels like nothing gets looked at.

    • @LeslieGStormwarden
      @LeslieGStormwarden 23 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

OMG you are so right! Back in 2020/21 I was playing Siptah a lot & every single time I logged in to my village, more than half of my thralls had fallen into the void under the map. I timed it once, to see how far down my thralls had fallen: it took me 3 solid minutes of Admin Ghost Flying straight down to spot him, like a little pin point, hanging in the expansive nothingness below the map. It took another three minutes of hand holding all the way back up just to replace him on solid ground. Every. Single. Time. I logged in to Siptah. Then it got fixed. For a time.
Then it started happening back in the Exiled Lands too. Eventually, I just started from scratch on both files. It was still notoriously bad over by Tellith's Isle, near the river separating the North from the desert. My tiger guards fell through the map there constantly. That was a real shame too as that is arguably the most beautiful portion of the entire map of the Exiled Lands.

Development is the exact same as any other company that bases its income on production. What we have isn’t a dev problem, it’s a management problem. The FOMO bazar isn’t a problem (it’s something I detest but it’s not a deal breaker) but it’s an indicator that cash over quality is on someone’s mind at Funcom, that first order priorities aren’t first order. Nearly every problem in business comes down to bad management or bad management policies (like too many chiefs).

    • @aresgalamatis7022

If they would dish out the big bucks for the top tier programmers the product would become real quality and there wouldn’t have to be a side hustle FOMO. a lot of old school devs who can do a month’s worth of work in a day (from an interview I saw with the creator of Fallout and he meant it literally).

We need an Age of Bug Fixes. I don't expect the game to be bug free, but I do expect it to be playable.
My girlfriend and I put an insane amount of hours into this game from 2020 till early 2024, over 1000, it was our lockdown game. We got the platinum trophy, bought every dlc, had a private server that we were paying for, did the battle passes, we loved this game.
But the bugs killed it for us. She uninstalled it months ago, I don't play anymore, but keep an eye on it still. It's just kinda sad seeing the state of a game we once loved so much.
And for crying out loud, give us a native PS5 version already! There's a Series X version, so why no PS5!?

i hope they add a Blueprint System for builders. would be epic.
hell, they could even make it a thing for Survival, by having the builder thralls being able to make the blueprints of those buildings in a special crafting station where you choose a blueprint, then you have to add all the materials for it to build it, and then you can place it like you would any other item.

    • @LeslieGStormwarden

Love the game but dear lord do they need a hard 6 to 12 months of nothing but code cleanup & bugfixes. Not the worst year... but dropping the battlepass removed one of the larger reasons people had to keep playing. Old Conan could be a real mess.

Communication MUST be the highest priority. I started to play Conan this year… most is unknown. From content, to daily content, bugs, etc. I own software companies, and I have developed games, apps, and software for 30 years… the optics is that this game is dead. Engage, Engage, Engage. They must engage internally with each other, engage with their partners, engage with is the customers… DAILY! Create a new loading screens with new bazaar content, post news, create NEW EVENTS. I have only been playing for 9 months (I am a big spender on the game), we have our own servers… NO communication and NO content. Again the game is perceived to be DEAD

I asked them for a weekly devlog ever since 2020, but Funcom keeps ignoring. They are not strong enough to make a commitment to us the customers. It is sad but I have to say that the game is already in the "milking" state. They properly only make random cosmetics these days based on their weirdest fantasy then throwing at us. All the "so-called-features" were all stale or made half-heartedly, also not even worked right. I swear that only those dedicated modders, who have their own community, keep the game "fresh and alive" for RP players. Comparing to them, Funcom is like hundred miles away from doing actual works.

@@Eradicati0nn that would be an improvement. From a “typical” player perspective, content is missing. All we get are repeated and recycled poor events and (for the most part) recycled building or armor packs. Which after playing for less than a year, I seem to fully own. @@idf-general I might be pre-saging Wednesday's video here, but I think after Dune gets released, I wouldn't be surprised if Conan gets the Ark treatment and is upgraded to a pseudo-sequel. It might actually fix some of the problems with the old spaghetti code that seems to cause a lot of issues. Not that improvements can't be made to the current product, but I think the march of time is potentially outpacing Conan, especially on older systems.
That being said, unless communication improves with it, we'll still have relative silence

What we'd need is a map expansion for both, Exiles Lands and Siptah OR a portal, to switch seamlessly between both areas, as the map kind of got small with the invention of constructable portals and the "waypoints". Add questlines with own story to the map, to make it more interesting, maybe including the creation a building somewhere, or a bridge. Stuff like this.

By the tail end of Age of War, I was growing tired of the bugs and glitches. I stopped placing down coffers because the Purge system wasn't worth it. When the Age of Heroes arrived, I never even bothered to grab either new companion because I was having massive headaches with the Living World Settlement to even care, let alone bother since I'm more of a solo fighter and rather not risk a thrall, even with the DBNO system.
I'm hoping 2025 is a better year, but based off last year, my expectations are very low.

The problem is that fixing bugs doesn't make money. Fixing bugs isn't something they can send to the marketing team to increase player acquisition. Fixing bugs is something that is done solely for existing players who have already paid for the game. Releasing new items in the Bazaar makes money. Releasing new features and getting that small burst of new players makes money. It's difficult to justify the ROI on having your most expensive team work on fixing bugs for a game that's almost 10 years old. In software engineering, we refer to this as tech debt, and it MUST be paid at some point or your product will fail.
In a SDLC, fixing bugs falls under the maintenance phase, and it's required for long-term sustainability. From an outside perspective, it looks to me like Funcom has historically appeared to disregard the importance of maintenance. Modern SDLC methodologies have routine maintenance baked in, and it can run parallel to the planning phase. Another benefit dedicated maintenance periods (or "cooldowns" as they're often called) it is that it improves morale for the engineering team as maintenance is often self-directed, which gives them a break from being ticket-takers for the product team. In addition to fixing bugs, they can also work toward improving DX, which can make them more productive in the long term. Maintenance is a requirement for any product, and it's often difficult to stress the importance of it to other teams at the company.
Which brings me to what I suspect is the fundamental problem: Funcom's CTO quit and took a few key people with him, including a lead game designer and a senior engineer. Funcom has since failed to fill that CTO position, so they've been without a CTO for 2 years at this point. This is important because it would typically be the CTO who would know how to articulate the importance of addressing tech debt and balance that against the other needs of the company. I obviously don't know anything about the internals of Funcom, but I imagine that the engineering team has been without proper technical leadership for a long time now, and the poor quality of the product is a symptom of that.
Take what I say with a grain of salt. I'm just going by information that's publicly available about the company and my own experience with the product and I'm filling in a lot of blanks here. This is simply my theory as to what's happened. But it could be completely incorrect.

    • @Eradicati0nn
      @Eradicati0nn  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I can't speak to the technical input, but at least in my opinion, I could kinda see fixing bugs as making money in a similar vein to how playtime often scales with monetary investment for other titles. Fixing bugs would increase stability, thus allowing the user to play more and feel more secure about playing, and thus spending money. Not sure if that works in practice of course 😂 but that's how I'd think of it

My beef with the "devs" is not that they don't communicate their plans, rather that during the age of war they introduced more bugs than features working (of course after patches). For example, if they said nothing about camel mounts, I found it by accident, while playing myself or watch someone streaming doing so, I would be elated; but instead, what we got was a 2 month long advertisement of it and then another month of "dev" effort to make it work, while a modder fixed it in two days... and don't get me started with that moronic design decision about rotating in combat, both for players and creatures, the "head dev" was blabbering about this "feature" for several chapters, and it was (partially still is) the most annoying change they have introduced in the gameplay, since it started, having to slowly roll it back, and of course introducing new bugs in the process, because the team (from ownership to management to "devs") is simply not even average, by the low gaming industry standards.

    2024 has been tough indeed...
    Where to begin...
Maps, Events, Lore and gameplay mechanics:
Most players have by now explored every inch of both maps and every dungeon.
This would be the #1 thing AFTER bug fixes to bring life to the game.
I believe adding/"unlocking a new portion of the Exiled Lands is long overdue, could be above the Jungle and be a mix of Icy/Forest region and have Pictish (in the forest area) and maybe Gurnakhi (in the Icy area) NPC camps.
Hell, could even make the Age of Heroes 2 have 2 new Companions from there.
Failing that, a new Dungeon would be an alternative.
I dream of a new dungeon like Wine Cellar or Warmakers Sanctuary.
Looking at the Temple of Frost there are "Portals" that were supposed to lead somewhere.
Could definitely expand that and add something Ymir related there.
Idk maybe Frost Giants planing to take over the Exiled Lands for themselves and turn it completely into a snow region and you have to stop it.
Events are nice, I enjoy both the Head Hunting and the Sacred Hunt but both have been recycled by now, there needs to be another new event before recycling again.
I vaguely remember there being Surge like events in the Exiled Lands what happened to those?
Lore, seriously the thing that got me hooked was the lore but it kinda stopped being interesting after Isle of Siptah.
Age of Sorcery was promising but its utterly under developed.
Sorcery is as it is atm. borderline useless.
I am not suggesting to add super fantasy fireballs or firing lasers from your eyes, there are more than enough mods to do that.
What I think is way easier to do, use what we currently have and improve it.
    - A variant of Ice Bridge where you summon Ice Spikes, sort of like palisades to block enemies rushing you.
    - A Variant of Wall of Fire where you split the ground and let volcanic flames shoot out of the earths core to damage foes.
    - A Variation of Lightning Storm where you summon one big Lightning bolt from the heavens to Strike one enemy and do vast damage.
Then there is the demon summoning, like there are the friggn Maelstrom creatures that you could summon instead of the ONE type of demon you have.
Age of War was neat in theory but again did not really make it better for me.
I like the fact that the Stygians come to collect but I would have kept the original Purge as well.
Just have 2 Purges, the regular one where local random NPC's/Tribes/Animals attack your base from time to time.
AND the Stygian one you can summon whenever you want to.
The amount of terror I felt when a Giant Rocknose was approaching my base is unmatched until this day.
Ofc. having updated animations for weapons would be neat, making pets more competetive with Human Followers.
Oh yeah and the Bazaar, I buy stuff there regularly but only when I think the price is somewhat justified.
Generally speaking the Prices should overall be lower, not half but maybe lowered by 25-30%.
The rotations need to be shorter and there should be more to choose from in the first place.
That's my 2 Cents. (Funcom should do more frequent surveys too, that would help in the communication department)

It's hard to think of Conan Exiles as 'a game as a service' when we have to wait 6 months between updates that aren't significant enough for such a long wait... even if these new features launched problem free.
Funcom has set the expectation that we should wait and hope for fixes. Wouldn't it be nice if us gamers had nothing to do but give feedback about wish-list features or quality of life improvements?
If after this first 6 month development cycle the game isn't in a very good state, what's next? A 12 month cycle?

My game on the PS4 crashed and when finished reloading I had lost my ability to use sorcery, lost a powerful thrall, and some random benches and chests had despawned. I looked up the bug online and saw that other people had experienced it, but the site was full of advertisements and there was no clear response that I recall. Conan is a resource management game, and if the hours I've spent getting to level 60 and accumulating resources vanish in an instant, then what is the point of playing? It wastes my time. The game has some great ideas, but you hit the nail 100% on the head - Its about implementation and I frankly don't see the point of adding new material if, every time I load the game I'm taking the chance on a catastrophic loss. Most of the time these crashes just threaten to respawn me in a bad location disconnected from my thralls, but this latest crash has me looking to other hobbies.

Love the game but it has become tedious for me.
The inventory revamp hit me hard. I held out for a reversion or some other fix and/or was hoping maybe I would get used to it. Afaik the team hasn't acknowledged the boondoggle.
The need to remove all my gear for afk or logging out is tedious.
The last thing for me is playing whack-a-mole replacing t4 crafters. I can't do it anymore.

Please tell me I'm not alone.
I play on PS5 official server.
I get this bug where my action buttons just stop working, attack, jump, etc. even while on a horse it will not jump. Sometimes the attack will start to animate but then stops. The stamina will be used, but not regenerate. This will stay like this until the server resets, restarting the game on the PS5 has no effect. I can load a different character in the same server and it will be fine. This bug can pop up almost immediately upon playing, or sometime after hours of playing. It's happened in my busy base, and while out in the middle of nowhere.
I'm just curious if this is one of the known game breaking bugs. Is it on all platforms?

I bought this game on release day, I can confirm that a lot of things never got fixed. The bugs are my main complaint with the game, they never seem to get fixed. I recently got it on Series X, and it's been pretty frustrating. Some things I've run into are enemies becoming immune to knockback and stuns, and thralls pushing me off of cliffs. The enemies seem to slightly sink into the ground, which gives them 100% immunity to any attack that has knockback. When I'm riding a rhino and have a thrall following, it's ridiculous that a thrall can toss my rhino into the air and off a cliff so I fall to my death. I don't think funcom play tests anything or listens to community feedback. That is going to be their downfall, I personally wouldn't buy another game from them. Don't get me wrong, I like the game and have supported it from launch, but their lack of communication and refusal to listen to players has really tarnished their reputation with me.

Every thing the devs introduce is just a some paint over a change designed to push more people to over priced micro transactions. a great example is the inventory rework -> a check system so players cant use items made by other players they haven't paid for. If the goal was actually to make the game better they would not have so much trouble these systems.

i agree on its the bugs their killing the players on the game and if they hade their beta test servers open to people tehir wanna help improve they could opdate things over their and when it was good to go they could realse it on the main servers, but have the main servers open mean while the beta test servers is open instead of oonly have them open 1 month before the chapter comes live, if they doing this it will help alot more becuse they can get feedback frome the test servers constaly and not have to worry over we not sending the reports so they can fix them but fix them when the hole update is on the main server can destroy the gameplay becuse you kinda using the main servers as beta testers and not letting them enjoy the game becuse of the bugs i hope you see what i saying

Great content as usual. Wrote a comment that turned into an essey. Too long. I summarize instead, but this is also long. If you wonder how I came to a certain conclussion I do have an explaination for that. Ask in that case.
I need to go through one thing - What is a game?
It is defined (by wiki) as something you may do for fun. Sure, but every game you have played, or participated in, have an element of achievment and resistance. There is a goal and there is an opponent, or environment, that tries to stop you reaching that goal. That challange, and overcoming that challange, is fun.
In PvP, like hockey, it is to outscore the opponent.
In PvE games, like the board game Pandemic, you need to collaborate and reach the goal before the before time runs out.
In creative games (that are not really games imo), like Minecraft, they offer an accessable tool box to the player may use. Like a starter kit from the art store.
Usually, like 99,9% of games, there is a goal that the player shall achieve and something that hinder the player, a struggle, to reach the goal. If you fail, game over.
What game is Conan Exiles? What is the goal and what is the struggle? It is classified as a Survival RPG MMO, but where do the player struggle? All community events are centered around building, so it is really a building simulator? To me CE is a mess from a game design perspective, "Jack of all trades, master of none". I think that is a reason for all the bugs.
    To summarize: Funcom needs to...
    - Define the game. What is the core of CE? What is the goal and struggle? Everyone in the team should know the game (struggle and achievment)
    - Focus on the game. Every release should target a certain aspect of the struggle and improve that aspect. Be disciplined. Be true to the game. What aspect of the game did Age of War target? What aspect of the game is Age of Heroes target? How do they combine?
    - Establish best practise regarding QA. Read some QA books and take some courses. Make the core of the game solid and bug free.
    - Take the Culture talk. Too many major bugs at every release indicate there is a culture issue within Funcom that needs to be resolved. Someone with mandate needs to take the talk and walk the walk.
    - Communicate honestly. I feel communcation from Funcom to the Community often is arrogant and bloated. Get to the point and understand that the Community is smarter than you. Dennis once said that we must "understand they do things for a reason" but madness can be a reason, too big of an ego can be a reason, having no plan can be a reason. What is the reason?

What about bugs with battlepass or shopp?? No major isues, fixed fast if needed. We all know history of the developers and share holders. So defending them and giving doupt is pointless. The Problem is I see it is admitting there is an issue, and taking away time top fix those issues, will continue to just ultimately piss off shareholders big corpos dont wana hear there are problems, they want to hear the game is perfect and making a profit, they want it to look like new thing is being released, it dosnt matter on our end when theyre simply pleasing a boardroom of corpos who only wana hear they are making more money.. It does not speak well for the Dune game's development either, if theyre struggling on this project. We sadly dont live in a society where games are published based on player approval, and while it holds the game back, the game is dead if the higher ups decide it. Just like every other live service on the market today,

I haven't been able to run the game for three months. Devs are deaf to our complaints and requests. They may be doing something to fix the problem, but they don't tell us anything about it. For me, Age of Heroes was the funeral of Conan Exiles. In your material, you propose how devs should solve problems with their game, but I think they should start by hiring programmers, because apparently they don't have any on their team. I haven't uninstalled the game yet, I still have some hope that within a few weeks the problem with running old saves will at least be fixed. If not, there are plenty of other games that work.

the issue is that with the start of the bazzar being a foma machine one of reasons is was created was to bypass the dlc cost to upload it on a site like xbox or steam. if it was all there when they added it and reasonanbly price rp and fans would be way more all of it. secondly the foma with free content made the game feel like a job when in a single player world. the lack of perminant content hurt the game alot. thirdly as age of war hit it made earlier content worse like cruption perks were you sacrofice your health and stamina and other perks for new perks that arnt out right better for what they ask. removing content like witch doctor minion and giving us a fading magic system that was ruined in age of war. lastly funcom ignoring the pvp comunity has made way more pvp players leave and they make a decent part of the population for this game. as for bugs they need to sit down and actualy sit down and fix them all

I stopped playing Conan in 2022 after playing for years because of the minor "boegs"..books? you mention. However when I started playing again last month in hopes of getting a decent patch that fixes them I found the game to be completely broken. I've had to restart from scratch 12 times and I can't get beyond mid game because you lose acquired knowledge, hard won weapons and armor making it a complete waste of time. I'm not even talking about the extreme lag. I thought my system was just too weak and was already considering upgrading it that's how much I enjoy this game. I've started a replay of another game (Hogwarts) and found it works perfectly. This game is over. If they are unwilling to even communicate about fixing something as basic as first person playthrough than why should I bother? Why should anyone. Furthermore if they are using this garbage engine for the upcoming Dune release why should I bother to buy that? I'm quite frankly not going to. These Devs are shooting themselves in the foot. Fix your game before you roll out these fancy new game elements that don't work regardless.

Stamina changes, legendaries no longer repairable, nerf of Thrall hp, enemies hit harder and easily stagger you with quick death, as well those dang bugs and lack luster new features that are poorly executed, I am not interested in Purge system, makes Age of War feel lack luster and Age of Heroes feels the same, especially when I don't care about Named thralls that have gender and appearance lock, especially when people expect you to obtain 40+ Dalinsia Snowhunter, but I want to use other thralls like Cannibal Brutes, RHTS and other tier 3 thralls in general. So I have little interest in new named thralls that have dumb 8 hour timers on single player . . . BRUH.
Don't get me started with people obsess with min maxing stats and what weapons to use . . . glad to never play private or official server for potential toxicity, but the lack of new stuff and lots of bugs, game crashes, I feel less and less playing the game.

Communication has gotten worse, the actual content has become non existent, the game has become less fun to play as time goes on, its more of a chore to play with every 'balance' patch they release, all shop items are insanely overpriced, hell they dont even add stuff to both maps at the same time. Before watching... my predictions on your video. At least, the top few reasons this game failed for me and I've stopped playing it after over 4000 hours.
    1. Live Service burnout (biggest reason)
    2. FOMO with the store and no means to complete sets outside of baby sitting the bazaar. They need to just open a store, the FOMO crap is dumb.
    3. Unfinished or incomplete building sets or ones that are still bugged and haven't been fixed such as the tent set.
    4. Too many exploiters on official servers, if you want to enjoy this game it has to be on a private server.
    5. Development team appears to be non - existent and it's just an asset introduction team at this point. They all on Dune now?

  • @thecommenter9678

(WARNING PERSONAL OPINION DON'T TAKE IT PERSONALLY)
    Ancient and outdated that's why.
It's not a fun game to play, the combat is DREADFUL, the story is dry and mostly hidden, and most of all, it's just a clunky, buggy, badly optimized mess.
It quickly runs out of content and charm, and the largest communities left for the game are all 18+ servers.
The only thing that keeps most people playing are mods, and they can only do so much with the ancient framework the game is built on.
I for one only use it, stacked with mods for character concept art, and base building on single player.
I used to admin a server for YEARS, i watched population drop off like a stone in 2024 and it never recovered, So when the server owner stopped paying for the server, i walked away.
Like i said, all that's left are the ERP servers full of degens.

Honestly Conan Exiles has gone downhill ever since the Bazaar and Battle Pass system was introduced, the devs prioritize money over the game now. First played the game in around early 2019 and pretty much quit a couple months ago. I've put in 1000+ hours put in that time. Used to enjoy the game back then but I don't anymore.
Optimization is terrible. Still don't get how al-Merayah was a good idea accessible to last-gen consoles. I'm also curious where the 60fps on ps5 performance mode is which xbox series x/s got around 3 years ago? Overpriced and scummy bazaar items+micro-transactions. An always bug filled game. It's frustrating to log on into this game just to encounter issues which have existed for 3+years. Usual mid updates which bring in more bugs then content. For updates with grand names such as the "Age of Heroes", I'd expect something BIG like an expansion to the top right of the Exiled Lands map and not yet another change to the follower system.
I doubt Funcom will change their current ways, we can only hope really. I respect the community still sticking with the game and content creators still pumping out the awesome content. Gonna observe and see how Dunes goes, if it ends up like the current state of Conan then welp🤷
