Great videos, very well explained and great english pronunciation what make easy understand and follow your videos. You are the best. Congratulations from Spain. Muchas gracias George.
Love the video's George but I have several questions about thump kegs and the benefits of running one thanks for all the information keep up the outstanding work
I have been avoiding doing any videos on thump kegs for several reasons. The most important one is the misunderstanding people have about them and the difficulty in running one without some experience. These are run mostly by sound, output and understanding of the process as opposed to a hard temp rule. Also, there is so much confusion about their benefit of which is minimal unless you really know what you are doing. People believe that it doubles the alcohol or creates more somehow and no matter how I approach it the name thumper or doubler just doesn't help. Kind of like secondary fermentation where there is actually no fermentation happening but is more clearing but the name implies something else. One day I may do a video but until then it will remain on the list as a possible future production. Hope you understand. George
Awesome! Back to the fun videos. Lol thanks George you're great! You should run a reflux column with a sight glass so everyone can see the reflux action. Just a thought
Barley and Hops Brewing LLC It's an awesome visual learning tool. I catch myself staring at mine when I'm stacking the column. Like I'm mesmerized by it. Lol
Hi George! Do you have any other rye recipes & can we see them in action (or is GW's the best)? I hate rye bread, but I love rye whiskey!! Can't explain why, but I yam what I yam... And please add any aging tips. Learning lots by watching your videos. Thanks for continuing to post them.
Hi George. I think this may be the 20th time I've watched this video. Got my Mighty Mini awhile ago as a result. Do you have a recommended heating element and controller? I've been using our stove but the family wants it back. lol Thanks for all you do. Have learned a lot from you.
Hi George and great hello from Australia. Im new to distilling and your channel. Its great stuff and I congratulate you the content. I have one question and it is my greatest fear in running my own still. Its re methanol. In this vid you spend a little time on it and i do understand however, is there another vid that you go any further with how to test and at what point it is safe and being sure its ethanol that comes out of that pipe. Also, once methanol stop at initial run, is there a possibility that there is some again further down the process that it appear again ?
Thanks and great video! But I do have a question. That extra part on the heater element. Is it called "1 Inch Stainless Steel NPT Half Coupling" ? I just want to order the right thing.
I need some help I have a 40 amp 240volt oven plug and i wanna run pid controllers on a powdercoat oven.can u explain to me how I go about wiring it up.i need atleast 3 elements and a fan to make temp
Hey George Thanks for the great video, I thought u needed at least some copper in the system to take out the nasty flavors ? Does it make much difference ?
This is a much debated topic. I have not found any definitive evidence on either side. I've run these with and without copper in them. To me it all boils down to a personal choice. I ran this one without any and as usual had no issues or off flavors. George
Dear George, wouldn't it be better to use the auto-tune at a different temperature (like 140) so it will balance the process and alters the P, I & D parameters? When the right parameters are set I can slowly increase the setpoint so I can control the temperature of my distilling better? When tuning it at the 173F it will go above and below while autotuning (or do I miss something?) Kindest regards from the Netherlands
Yes, In order for the PID to autotune it needs to go above and then below the set point 3 times at a minimum to make its calculations for autotuning. Do this at 140 is a good place before you get to distilling temps. If you run into any problems start over with the following settings; P=1 I=540 and D=200 George
@@BarleyandHopsBrewing You are really the best! My other PID (Rex c700) works excellent on my UDS. Keeps the temp. in between 0.5 C during a long cook of porkshoulder! It triggers a small fan which blows towards the woodfire in my barrel and so adjusting the temperature above on the grillgrate. Same principe, but without a ssr as I have a relay PID. So I let it open/close the 12volt supply towards the fan. It can switch up to 3-4 amps but that will give problems on the long run.
The title is kymoon. I believe it is short for Kentucky Moonshine. Send me an email at pidcontrollers76@gmail.com and I'll reply with the full MP3 file for you. George
ok, if George is not going to sell these I might be interested in building you one, for a couple dollars over cost of parts & shipping, from what I have done the box can be the most expensive part after the pid itself, still trying to find a reasonable priced one, George can find the boxes alot cheaper than I can,
George - me again - is it possible to have two set points on the PID one for the methanol and then another one for the ethanol - or is it the norm just to have the upper temperature and monitor the output - Many Thanks
The PID operates on one set point. You can set it for the methanol stop and then just reset it for the ethanol run. George P.S. As the volume changes you will need to re-adjust the PID anyway and inch it up a few degrees at a time. Use the auto-tune feture, it is great.
t b It is all based on the acidity of your water. If you plan on using a good water that you can buy, I'd go with the spring. It is a very clean neutrality water and works wonders in making smash as well as cutting. So you can go to Wal-Mart if need be and get their spring water in the gallon jugs to use. Hope this helps ya!
@@BarleyandHopsBrewing thanks , I'm trying to figure out stuff just yet ! Still looking at different stills to start with after I learn a little more .
Hi George, i have big question, i watched alot of your videos, and make me thinking, isint beter to regulate water for reflux cooler by PID and eletromagnetic valve (in Comum)???, when you regulate heating element whit PID you destroion reflux ratio by pulsing ,you just stoping flow in colum and its biger reflux.

You are too kind. Thanks
George
glad to see your still putting out vids.
Gettin pretty regular now
Glad to see your back doing the videos George. missed your knowledge brother.
Happy Distilling, at what temp setting do you turn on Autotune? And do you do it more than once? Thank you George for all that you share!
Hey George, ever done a sour mash resusing the old mash? Would love to see your spin on it. As always, great video and glad to see ya back..
Great video George 👍👍.

George, great video. At what point in your process did you do the Autotune? Do you repeat for both your methanol and Ethanol set points?
I use it at several points. Normally at the beginning when I set it to 100F and then again for the methanol point and then at ethanol.

not sure if half is part of it but it is an NPT furrel or coupling

When making you wash are your Mash the cake layer that's on top when it is ready does it go away or do you just scoop it off and throw it away

YAY back to the good stuff, can you do recipes and do like a vdiary type thing of your brews
Thinking about a few of those. Got some others to sneak in first.

George, can I get just the mighty mini boiler & lid w/element port? Also what is the intro music title??
I'm sure you can. Call Ray at the store 254-300-8226 He opens back up Tuesday at noon. (on vacation)

Just a PID or the complete control box??

Rob, I have a few already made exactly like the one on the video.
George
you can email me spcfarr2000@gmail.com for a price that would be great
Pls what are the alarm parameters used for
George some designs of reflux still have the cooling coil above the outlet is that better than having it below?
I've never seen one like that so I have no idea its purpose or efficiency.
How short can a reflux coloumn be where the reflux still works? is there a minimum length? (using copper mesh and copper saddles inside)
Through my research I have found that most prominent distillers recommend no shorter than 28 inches.
George
Ok..Thanks
does the mighty mini work with the nu wave PIC?
I used it on a nuwave and it worked fine.

George is it possible to use nuts or fruit as a medium in a reflux still for flavor ?
The flavor complexity is not there to offer any benefit.

Might be a shotgun condenser but it looks more like a liebig condenser fo me

George don't drink "METHANOL"
Why doesn't anyone show how to set the ( TEMPERATURE ) that you want to maintain.
That is a liebig condenser, not a shotgun.
You are absolutely correct. Sorry about that.
