    Thanks, Chris! The body shop wanted $500 to do this, but your video allowed me to do the deed myself. She saved the money, her door now closes as it should, and I look like a hero.

      I had a terrible experience with Dorman kit with pins and bushings. Bushings are totally junk. I noticed some bad reviews for dorman kits for door hinges. I ordered from the chevy dealer. Not cheap but I’m done with it till the truck falls apart. I broke the bushings very easily. I had to pound out the factory bushings and they stayed in tact. They were just worn out.

    It just so happens that when I bought my truck (used), one of its previous owners was kind enough to remove the driver side door hinge spring so when opened, it would swing all the way until the back of the jam stopped it. I looked online for the spring, then saw folks were charging more for the spring then entire kits that came with the pin and bushings... EUREKA (and, then I found it)! This video with your tips and method is sound advice to this dumdum (meaning me) who doesn't even have to turn a wrench! I'm also thankful for that. Since the pins are brass from the looks of it, I'd put a piece of wood between the pin and the hammer so not to mushroom the pinhead. Prolly get a better fitment into the bushings. I like the socket compensator for the bottom of the bushing. Thanks for the vid.

    My 2002 S-10 hinge pins have never been changed, top hinge pin was a piece of cake. Bottom hinge pin is a different story, the pin is so corroded that no amount of hammering will remove it. Only two options remain, soak the pin in penetrating oil and hope that works, or as a last resort, grind the head off and drive the pin downwards which allows clearance for more effective hammer blows. One way or another, there's no turning back, wish me luck.

    I was having excess wind noise around the passenger door. I replaced the windshield reveal weather strip, and the drip weather strip, but still had a leak. The busing is split on the upper hinge. I did the "moose the window frame over, and sealed it up, then did a 90 mile off road trip and it's still sealed, but I still will do the pins & bushings, ASAP. The reveal was allowing water to get in then a good cross wind would douche me with water, mud and sand. THANKS! GREAT VIDEO!!!!

    • @Clearanceman2
      @Clearanceman2 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the exact same thing and I built up the weather stripping with silicone. Now that I've replaced the two broken bushings hope the seal compresses enough or I'll be sanding. Ironic if the silicone was enough to break the new bushings. That's me out there crying in the driveway....

    you can fix this without changing any parts. over the weekend I took a short cut, the bushings you can twist them a 90° with a pair of pliers which in turn places the good part of the bushing where the worn part was. i did jack up the door using a block before starting worked for me! no more up and down play in the door.

    Hi Chris - I have a 2001 S-10 4X4. I just opened the door and heard a loud spring-release sound followed by an even louder clank! I checked and the piece that is held against the spring (opposite of where you inserted your pry bar for removal) had gone past the roller. The door wouldn't close at all. I compressed the spring using a ball-peen hammer and managed to close the door enough to remove the hammer. After opening it again, it did the same thing - a loud snapping sound and unable to close the door without compressing the spring again. I don't think this is the hinge pin - but it might be a broken spring? Is is possible to send you a few pics and perhaps you may be able to tell me what you think the problem is? Thanks in advance for any assistance!

    Hey great clip my man, nice, simple & Short; the Best kind. But you only forgot 4 things: grease, Grease, GREASE, & G R E A S E!!!! To ease installation AND for preventative maintenance. Or if you prefer anti-seize compound/Never-sieze by Bostik or an equivalent of Permatex. Its dirty, but its sure worth it. (if the dern factories & dealers would lube & grease more stuff we'd have a lot less repairs to fight.) Take care from Tn.
