  • I bought a GPU that does not exist from wish.com today we figure out just how bad it really is. Trust me this turns out worse than expected and my expectations were already really low. It actually broke my PC.

      The OP is right. I think the "designer" logic behind this is that by frying the whole computer, instead of just having the card not work, the designer/Wish could always say: "It doesn't mean that the problem is the card, it might be just a coincidence and it could be your motherboard/Ram/CPU etc the problem instead. Not "that" stupid from a scammer perspective come to think of it...
      Instead of having just the GPU defective, thus making it easy to pinpoint, make the entire computer defective and drown the problem so to speak...

    • @airway_gaming4484

      I know how stupid? The buyer would be less likely to pursue them over a 40$-50$ GPU that they probably knew wasn't legit from the get go, but fry there PC? That would cause more of a uproar how stupid

Hell he even deleted a section of the video because he was completely wrong about what he was saying in that part.
      Probably more chance of killing your PC from listening to a guy like this than from a GPU bought from Wish. I have removed the part of the video with the current tracing. As many of you have commented it is completely incorrect.
    Also in addition, I was able to just get the motherboard to boot with lots of problems, I believe the CMOS is damaged and requires multiple attempts of pressing the clear CMOS button and then the power button in odd orders every single time to boot. The PCIE Slot is still unusable and my 3570k is complete toast.
    January 22nd 2020 Update:
    It looks like the BIOS was corrupted as many of you suspected which fixed the booting problem. With the 3570k it still will not boot and the top pcie slot is finicky. It doesn’t like large cards for some reason.

    • @cwilson6365
      @cwilson6365 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Thanks for being honest. To be upfront: I was more freaked out that the fans spun when you plugged in the HDMI cable! 5 volts at (I think I read) 50mA? That's 'nuf to fry some things or atleast make them crispy.

    • @Nilboggen
      @Nilboggen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cwilson6365 I wouldn't be to concerned with the fans turning on from only plugging in an HDMI cord. My 1080 will also turn on the fans when I only plug a monitor that has CEC (basically switches inputs and provides power when plugged into something) into it while its sitting on my table not in a motherboard. It takes that 5v from the monitor and it can hit pins on the card that will turn on the fans. I'm not going to test this on my 2080ti but I would imagine the same thing could happen. As far as this one being completely worthless I agree. But I wouldn't judge a card just because the fans turn on. That 1080 I have still functions just fine. It did also freak me out when it happened but after some research I discovered it was fairly common. Too bad about the poor 3570k and that PCIE slot though :-(

    • @memerscrazer
      @memerscrazer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @@Nilboggen this is power leakage, the HDMI standard uses a 5v lane to send 5v 55ma from the source to the reciver, when the gpu is not pluged on the mobo, the current leak to the gpu, but nothing to concern about they probabily just used a wrong resistor or diode value, but in the "1060ti" case it probabily has no safety, and i doubt they follow the correct way to make the HDMI circuit, what happens is that the HDMI was leaking current to the gpu 5v circuit and when he powered up the computer it shorted the 5v lane of the gpu to the pci-e, and as the first pci-e slot is the direct pci-e to the cpu, it fried the pci-e slot and shorted the cpu

    • @Nilboggen
      @Nilboggen 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@memerscrazer oh I totally agree I just wanted to point out that the fans spinning up when a gpu is only plugged into a hdmi cord shouldn't be a major concern / red flag. Although does it mean there is something wrong with my 1080? Like a bridged resistor or diode issue? I mean its performance doesn't seem to have any issues but I don't want to accidently frag a cpu/pcie lane someday since it is still a rather relevant gpu and I do still use it in systems albeit not my daily driver. I am not an expert by any means.

      The GPU blasted the CPU which in turn could of damaged the RAM or PCH. This is the only scam GPU to do this so my guess is the graphics card damaged from shipping and somehow sends 12v power to pcie/cpu.

He knows that TI means the card is better, and he sees this at a cheap price and doesn't mind how long it takes. It gets there, he's super excited and installs it- then finds his pc is broken. The main red flag (and confirmation for me) was in the packaging. I did not see the GPU in an anti-static bag (it looked like regular bubble wrap there); no way I'd put that in anything regardless of whether it was wired up to be a suicide card. Had it been working like a normal card should we would see whether or not it actually has 8 gigaBITS of VRAM.
    This video makes for a great PSA, sharing now.

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is not 'regular' bubble wrap, this is supposed to be anti-triboelectric bubble wrap, meaning it should not generate static electricity, or at least have a drastically reduced generation of static. Pink colour is used to differentiate this kind of bubble wrap from standard type, which is colourless.
      However in practice it is not a suitable protection for electronics, stuff in pink bags, even from 'reputable' major Western electronics sellers, is known to often arrive dead, one or multiple of these made the mistake of choosing the wrong packaging at one time or another, not sure if it was Mouser or Digi-Key or both.
      I don't think this is necessarily deliberately a suicide card. It's a possibility that something got zapped and created a path between 12V rail and 3.3V rail say via VRM or a fan control MOSFET, and this fault path also happens to backpower the fan via the video-out. Also wouldn't be healthy to the mainboard at all.

By the time they realise that their system is fried by showing it to a technician, and then they place the gpu to another system, they will realise that it was the gpu's fault, and by that time its too late.

    As someone who got this item back a few years ago when I was young and stupid I will say one thing... When it came it was in perfect condition, went right in, turned right on, and only gave you issues when you tried to install the drivers for it. Then it was go into a infinity crash loop and you would have to start in safe mode, uninstall the drivers, restart into normal windows, reinstall the drivers and try again. When I figured out and looked up the chip name and figured out it was a scam, I was able to put everything back in and it worked like it always had before.
    While I am not in favor of this card or the way these scammer try and scam little kids (like I was) into buying something that is totally worthless. I know for a fact that it would take a lot more than a couple drops to make that kind of damage to the card, and it seems like there were stress marks as if someone took a pair of pliers and did that to make it look worse than it actually was.
    Also he showed no video proof of the PC not turning on, and I am not buying because I know what this card does first hand.
    While I am not opposed to people calling out scammers and shaming them.... Lying to your viewers and creating clickbait for more money is SO DUMB.
    I almost never dislike tech videos like this, but I do not support lying and I think this guy is a scam, just like this video and product is.

    Most electronics I've purchased on Wish are from foreign scammers that don't give a damn about selling fraudulent and harmful products. Got an SD card and a USB stick that were both hacked to show high capacity, when in fact they lost data after a much lower physical limit was met. Also got USB LEDs that were static instead of animated. One USB booklight that fried my power bank for it. And a phone was literally a paperweight shell of a phone with a handwritten note to "enjoy this funny prop item."
    Wish didn't do anything to refund earlier orders because they weren't contacted within 30 days of purchase... Despite the items taking almost two months to arrive in the first place. They're better at customer support lately, but they still keep allowing fraudulent merchants to post onto there.

    It's bizarre that Wish is still a thing. I can't imagine anyone ever orders from there twice. My boss did a Wish order and we all added a few things just out of curiosity. None of the things were as expected. The most common thing was size. One ordered one of those pet food dishes that look like a maze to slow down and prevent choking etc. No joke, it was less than 2 inches in diameter. They just took a real clear macro shot with some deceptive items in the background to make it look regular sized.
    I mean what kind of strategy is that for ongoing success? And what an appropriate name for the website. Wish. Ha, no kidding.

    Can you pay with Paypal on wish? If so, just keep buying them and then disputing them for selling fake stuff. On ebay it should be even easier.

    Well, it can be lot worse. My wife put a couple of orders a couple of years ago (before she got aware of the bad quality). She paid the bill and was done about wish. But no, several months later she suddenly got a huge bill for items she never ordered, and now we have being about a year in conflict with a pay-your-bill-or-else company (don't know the english term) because even if the claim is proven false from our side, that company just continue harassing her by selling the claim to other companie - they keep doing that instead of taking the case to court because they can't prove a legal claim.
    It was hard to find a way of comunicate to wish, but trying to complain using mail, the anwer back is nothing but gibberish. That i get a mail in return, but I think they never actually bother reading the mail. When demanding proper documentation for the order, they just put some standard text in the reply, getting nowhere (either a robot or an employe having a choice of like ten different text for whatever mail).
    For this reason - don't put orders from wish.
