Its nice to see one of those old macs. My old college used to have them. We used to use garageband and make our own songs and burn the song to a cd when we had our music lesson. I miss that place. That was like 2006
I've gotta hand it to Apple for making such a durable product. That thing survived being covered in water, multiple hits, and had multiple components ripped out of it while it was still on, yet it still started up as if nothing happened. It required the motherboard to be physically broken for it to finally die. Very impressive.
6:42, Loved when he touched the power supply and got electrocuted. Then at 11:27, the CMOS battery must've got damaged as the computer then reset itself back to factory default as if it were brand new.🤣😝
It's meant to be taken apart and serviced under warentt by trained Apple techs who know what their doing. Not "serviced" be Retards with a fresh $10 home Depot tool kit who slaps his hands all over everything whill it's hooked up to mains.
This is also a common problem with Macbook Pros. My friend gave me his mid 2010 Macbook Pro. Although it powered up, the backlight failed. This is due to a part on the logic board itself which tends to short out. Since it's a Surface mount component, it's most times better to get a whole new one.
I used to daily the 2GHz version of this machine back in like 2014, it kept up pretty nicely for what it was but it was definitely showing age even back then.
Here is where Apple does the stuff right. I have a Sony AIO with the same specs and watching a video is horrible, starts skipping if the quality is higher than 360p, that mac had a more than decent speed
In 2008 I bought the black macbook that would be later used from 2008-2012 to do my videos... And I still have and use it as my main DJ machine, It has never failed me during a gig even though it was slammed around through my high school years and has always been getting toured around with DJ gear in the backs of trucks and such, plus dropped it countless times ... that thing has worked its ass off for me
Oh, and only issues in all the years: broke the cheap bezel plastic, I only last year replaced the original battery, and I did have a bigger hard drive put in at some point but none ever were damaged, still has the original 4 gig of ram
Garret That's the point, Mac OS is fantastic for DJing, audio keeps going even in high load. I honestly wondered myself, how do DJ's work with Windows 10? Everytime it wants to update,it will and the sound will start glitching
Looks like the backlight died. Also, I don't suggest putting your hands all over the PCBs since the power supply is exposed, and the capacitors can kill you. And I'll never understand why they call a Wi-Fi card an "Airport Card".
I got a boot off the casing on a proper ATX PC power supply a year or so ago. Jolted right up my arm, thankfully tripped an RCD/GFCI or whatever it is here in Australia.
These iMacs were SO great; you Windows users out there have no idea what you were missing. Everyone else in 2006 was basically using modern versions of 1990s computers - yet, here Apple was with a clean Core 2 Duo or Core Duo computer with built-in LCD / speakers / webcam+mic. Love these things. It's not even a big deal Garret smashed one, anyway, because they're everywhere and can be had these days for either cheap or free.
I have one of those imacs and it has the same problem, if u unhook the top backlight from the inverter board, it stays on and u can see the screen. However if u plug it in it comes on and goes out.
I work for a computer manufacturer called Stone Computers and we have a recycling centre where we take the older PCs, commonly when they replace they're old systems with our brand new builds. Shit like old Dells, Acers and the odd customer build. Anything that's no good to be refurbished and sold again, they get sorted and put on pallets and sold in bulk. Occasionally, we fuck the old ones up. Mostly macs because none of us like them lol.
Lol yeah I don't do computers, I have a love/hate relationship with them where I need use them for work things and video production, really otherwise my 7 year old basic model Samsung smart phone is what I surf the net with and I've totally lost touch with the computer scene .. At one time I was really into vintage mac collecting but it was just a side effect of my ADHD - OCD (Getting interested in stuff and going hard at it for short bursts then wake up not giving a fuck one day)
i use one of those for my main mac for some unknown reason... it defiantly has nothing to do with my macbook pro mid 2010 graphics card problem at all.
if you did this to the imac pro it would kill you because the power supply is completely exposed. l don't know why this did that because that is super dangerous, l don't even know how those things can pass QC with such a poor design.
Funny to say but Garret's channel was actually my childhood. Been watching for almost 10 years now. Glad to see you're posting a lot more in 2018!
Same, started watching in Summer 2013. First vid was of him smashing the iMac G3 in 2012 haha
same here
Same
I watched him since 2013
@@creeper2671 I watched him since 2015
Dead backlight.
7502 I seriously hate neon backlight, is so crappy
Yup
Probably a dead inverter board for the LCD.

Garret: "It's like a game of operation..."
Also Garret: *brutally ripping out body parts with a crowbar*
12:32 legit sounds like the computer screaming in pain 😂
computer go beeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrbbbbbbbbpbbbpbpppppbbeeeeerrrrrrrrrr

Damn those speakers are really good!
TheElectronicGuy & Speakers macs don’t compromise in quality except that shit os
TheElectronicGuy & Speakers they are good for what application they are put on! Look at that deaf bounce!
TheElectronicGuy & Speakers better than tv speakers atleast😂
TheElectronicGuy & Speakers samsung is hopeless
Ikr! The speakers on my late 2006 20" iMac sound great!
6:42, Loved when he touched the power supply and got electrocuted. Then at 11:27, the CMOS battery must've got damaged as the computer then reset itself back to factory default as if it were brand new.🤣😝
2 garret claridge videos in one, love it!!!
iMacs actually have infamous power supplies with no protection at all that can actually deliver deadly shocks
It's meant to be taken apart and serviced under warentt by trained Apple techs who know what their doing.

Most times better to not bother with apple at all!
8:55 but it never came😕
Please do more computer tear aparts like this! I love this stuff :D
You don't skip Garret Claridge's shittalk !
9:17 this heatsink it getting real warm, better cool it off
Sprays water onto it 😂😂
@saya orang biasa saja lmao 😂
Something finally surpassed the durability of that Thinkpad you sawed in half
I used to daily the 2GHz version of this machine back in like 2014, it kept up pretty nicely for what it was but it was definitely showing age even back then.
looks like we finally get to see a video where you get shocked by an electronic on screen
0:50 the cat is broken 😂

Garret What about the 2 iBooks you smashed? Were those when you bought this iMac? And what is your current Mac?
As soon as you got shocked my eyes dipped down to the description
"shocking"
perfect
I love how the thing still worked after its face got ripped off and had water on the power supply.
Never seen a computer boot loop like that lmao
the hard drive was endommaged this is why the computer bootloop
Garret was a staple of my childhood and Im so happy to see him still upload.
I have two of those iMacs the 17 inch one and 20 inch model and I’ve never had that problem yet and I’ve had them since 2006
2:09 you got me dying over here
I like that old Apple boot sound
Sounds 90s as hell
6:42 did the exact same thing with a similar model of that mac. Those can shock you really bad.
Got a iMac G3 that’s went through a lot, the case is badly damaged but it’s still running to this day
What a tough bastard. Seriously impressive.
When it shocked you I jumped 😂
same
same
Construction quality of that computer is awesome dude

The heatsink you were attacking is the chipset which provides a path for the CPU & GPU if I correct.
What’s the lesson we learned here?
Don’t ever trust Garret with an iMac water a monitor a camera and electricity.

Omg this is so funny you need to do more of these videos 😂
I lost it at 11:40, "Garret's repair shop"!
1:13 that thing is happening on my laptop too.i just restart it or turn up the brightness. I dont know what causes that but i will find out.
I have one of those imacs and it has the same problem, if u unhook the top backlight from the inverter board, it stays on and u can see the screen. However if u plug it in it comes on and goes out.
8:28 this part is the best lmaooo
That looked like a lot of fun lmao. Should have saltwatered the power supply! Zappy zap zap housefire
fuck yeah i love these videos! been watching since 2010 (when i was 5-6 :p) and i love to see you still making these videos!
I have the same one. But the ram is glitching out sadly. It does suck
Also I did the same to a 2011 iMac good build quality and also shocked myself with the power supply
I enjoyed that one! You've destroyed your old iMac. I saw you ripped the motherboard in half and you've killed your old iMac! 🔨🖥😂
Although the 2011 one had a bass + treble watered setup with separate grounds and great audio quality
The I in iMac stands for indestructible
12:42 garret: let’s touch it
Fan: DONT TOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH MEEEE
Love the destructive videos! I get to destroy shit like this daily at work.
SomeRandomEnglishGuy where the hell do you work
Recycling plant maybe or like a scrapyard
I work for a computer manufacturer called Stone Computers and we have a recycling centre where we take the older PCs, commonly when they replace they're old systems with our brand new builds. SomeRandomEnglishGuy _boi if you dont_
I remember watching this back when after few days of the video uploaded
If this iMac survives soo much torture, it’s gonna live longer than me 💀
Fuck sake garret I had to take one of these apart the other day... this video would have saved me so much time...
Ohh boy! My reaction to the whole idea was: "Ohh dear god please! Dont touch the PSU!! he touched the PSU... i fking called it.."
motherboard garret. it's the motherboard (main board) you ripped.
Lol yeah I don't do computers, I have a love/hate relationship with them where I need use them for work things and video production, really otherwise my 7 year old basic model Samsung smart phone is what I surf the net with and I've totally lost touch with the computer scene .. This is the kind of shit i love. More please :D You should have tried to make it overheat with some benchmarks
Did you smash the word after Garret
Great video, you should blow the speakers next!
Little 5 year olds be like: YoU cOuLd Of GiVeN tHaT tO mE!!!!
That iMac did not want to die
Glad to see you in my feed :)
Steve jobs is rolling over in his watery grave
About Newness for iMac came out In?
If I recall 2006 was also the year the MacBook was created.
Take it to Louis Rossmann, maybe he can fix it.
This is a good comeback
9:21
How to make your IMac water cooled.
1. amazing. 2. Brilliant. 3. WOW!!!.
Now ask Louis Rossmann to fix it.
TheComputerGeek010101001 probably just the PPbus circuit.
Tough device, cool video.
Nice
Always a good day when Garret uploads! How'd that power supply feel? lol.
I have the same iMac and there is one line of pixels that’s yellow and it’s really annoying. Rip imac
Haha, damn these are so fun to watch. Glad you are aking videos
My 2016 MacBook Pro did the same thing but had purple streaks in it after a month of having it 🤕
I love that magic smoke
Greetigs from Belgium
Your doing good destroying that hocroax
Or just you replace the capacitors on the backlight circuit
Garret should collab with Nelk for a “edgiest Canadians ever” video
maybe the connecter for the display was loose maybe thats why it turned on while u were destroying it
Ma è bellissimo il gattino a inizio video!😻😻
A mac is really tough and well made.
6:42 Ouch!
How can u use one this old
You were able to install an linux operating system on that imac with a modern internet browser
Aple should React to this
No Mac for you, Garret
Nice tutorial on watercooling a Mac!
This is so durable 😂
And my fourth and last comment: please play operation on other computers- that was cool to see how long it lasted
When mac lets you change the fan speed when you need a 3rd party app for windows also those mac speakers sound damn good
That was a 3rd party app. Mac doesn’t natively allow that too so the app is called SPEEDFAN for Mac
i use one of those for my main mac for some unknown reason... it defiantly has nothing to do with my macbook pro mid 2010 graphics card problem at all.
for an old POS it's pretty resilient
if you did this to the imac pro it would kill you because the power supply is completely exposed. l don't know why this did that because that is super dangerous, l don't even know how those things can pass QC with such a poor design.
NGL i would love to mess with this IMAC like ubgrading it and stuff i never used mac os in my life
Awesome video Garret
