    My son picked up the front roll in 1 hour from your instruction. His confidence in class completely changed. Thank you Sensei

    Thank You very much for this video! The explanation of mistakes is essential! The only thing I'd like to say is that in my humble opinion it's better to start explain such things from simple (as at 9:14) to complex . Because it'll help to avoid any injuries. And one more thing, if you won't mind - some people are thinking that doing ukemi on a hard surface is the same as on the mat, but they should keep in mind that this may end in a bad experience! So if they want to try it on a wooden floor or asphalt - that's possible, but they must learn slowly and from simple to complex.

    Greetings from Mexico, excellent explanation, I began to perform the ukemi roll now more confident, before I had an injury in my right shoulder because nobody taught me well from the beginning, thanks for your advice, now I am your subscriber

    This seemingly basic move encompasses the central foundation of Aikido.
    Circular flow, redirection of energy and central axis of spin.
    Not that I remember much from my one summer of training but when I see you flow it all comes back.
    My sensei at UH Manoa was very good and I thank him wherever he may be.
    He said something about imagine you are being flipped but create your own energy.
    He then proceeded to flip himself landing on his feet repeatedly,even though he was not a light person.

    Great video. I've always wondered why the shoulder doesn't hit the mat when rolling. Thank you for sharing the details on how to make the curve of the arm and shoulder.

    Great video some students are frightened with kaiten nage and rolling could you do a video explaining this as I see many not being able to roll when thrown in this position?

    How do you deal with students who have fear of the roll from prior injury?

    • @paulfrank1777
      @paulfrank1777  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Have they completely healed from their injury? If so get in the position at 9:14. Keep sliding the forward roll hand behind you until the shoulder completely touches the ground and then lift Your hips until you roll over. Once that feels normal The student can gradually slide back about 8 inches in which he will start incorporating the arm into his role until he reaches the position at 9:14 Again. Let me know if you think it would be helpful and I can make a video going more into depth. If he wants to strengthen his shoulder and he’s not injured I suggest this video.th-cam.com/video/twGAw0-45OI/w-d-xo.html

      Broke a collar bone as a white belt and still twelve years later I struggle to roll although I’ve made it to Dan level

    What style of aikido do you teach? Thanks 🙏

    • @paulfrank1777

      I don’t really have a particular style of Aikido. I was influenced by many teachers. Kanai Sensei, Yamada Sensei, Chiba Sensei, Saito Sensei, Saotome Sensei. So my style is very potpourri so to speak.
