    Good demonstrations of the various falls. But for slapping the mat on the back rolls, I was trained (and have always successfully practiced) to do it sooner so as to 'break' the momentum of the fall, not wait until your momentum has come to a stop. It's the same concept as a proper breakfall. That's just how I do it.
    One note here that my sensei (who was sent to Thailand over 50 years ago by O'Sensei) always bemoans is people who slap that mat every time out of habit. He is always adamant that you should only slap the mat if you have to to break your momentum. Otherwise, he said that your roll should be a quiet one.

      @@QuocAnhAiki Where is Vietnam are you training? I've trained in Hanoi with Phúc Tuệ Sư Phụ Sensei, HCMC and Vung Tau. Good times over there. Now I'm training in Thailand.

      @@khunbilly I am based in HCMC. Im still quite new to Aikido but totally into it. At the point of when to slap and when to roll quietly we are in the same boat, as I do see others have different opinions. Your comment has shown your respect to Aikido too. Nice to meet you!

    I'm an Aikido practitioner (11+ years) and I have to say, you need to give yourself more credit - your mae ukemi (forward rolls) aren't bad at all!!!

    Not smart to smash your foot on the street , the leg that you land on should be bent so you dont crush the ankle and bend the foot so you get on your toes to get up

      It's not for the street, it's for judo on a tatami.

      I do not agree, the reason is that if you're thrown on the street you would want to protect your back, hip and head.
      If you land with your arm fully extended and hand facing downward flat and the leg fully extended you have maximum surface for absorbing the impact.
      You're not landing on the foot it's turned sideways and the thigh and calf take the impact a split second before.
      The trick is to hit the ground with everything at once, If you hit with the hand, shoulder, foot or hip one before the other parts you're in for a bad time.

      @@FuzzyButtCheese i practiced shorinji kempo fo 13 years on har wood floor, and learned the hard way. Every time we trained with judo or ju jutsu guys and stepped off the Tatami mat they complained , it hurts

      and remember on street there are curbstones , rocks stairs benches and everthing else you land on and get hurt @@FuzzyButtCheese
