For some reason I didn't like Becker so much at the time, but it's amazing how effortless his strokes were. Great flow. Only comparable to Federer, perhaps.
His ground strokes were weak and non-penetrating compared to Agassi’s though. After relying primarily on an aggressive serve-and-volley playing style his first six years on tour, Becker was trying to prove that he could be just as successful rallying from the baseline. While he could hold his own against most players, he had no chance against Agassi. It was his stubborn refusal to stay back and not follow his serve into the net that led to getting broken 8 times against Agassi during this match, ultimately losing in straight sets. Becker had a chance to seize the #1 ranking, but blew it with this match.
@@toddcrickmore7196 His groundstrokes were certainly not weak. As far as depth goes, maybe you should watch the 1991 Australian open final or his 1989 Davis cup match vs Andre. Credit to Agassi, but Becker tried to match agassi from the baseline , mistake ... becker plays an attacking game , not a counterpuncher, the resut showed it, and again at RG 91
On a totally unrelated topic, it's amazing how at 1:19:50 the commentators were talking about how many majors each male player had before age 22 with Boris being the front runner with 4. Monica Seles had 8 majors by the time she was 20 years old, and Novak who might end up being the greatest men's champion ever, only won 1 by age 22.
Yeah, you'd think Becker would at least double his by-age-22 total, but the 90s explosion of both American tennis (Sampras, Agassi, Courier, Chang) and clay-court specialists really prevented Becker from being as successful as he was in the 80s. He was lucky to get that '91 AO title in there before the Americans really arrived. And Seles, well, we all know what stalled her potential.
I watched the whole match here and I think this is one of the worst tactical displays I have seen from Becker. Its easy to see why Agassi said "if Boris plays from the baseline I will be the one smiling at the end". I can't believe Becker went to Bob Brett before the match, by the way I am going to spin the first serve in at 75 mph all day and just rally and Bob said, great idea, lets do it! Therefore, either Bob had absolutely no influence on guiding Becker to play a smarter match and use his strengths, or Becker totally ignored any instructions he was given because he is is own boss. Because, it is clear to see from this match that Becker is simply too slow around the court to trouble Agassi, even if he hits a winner here and there, much more errors and Agassi just wore him down, running him side to side, taking the ball early. Agassi even hit almost 30 winners, which is a lot for him. If Becker used his big game ans lost you could say Agassi was too good but we don't know because Becker wilfully did not use his big game in this match. Its interesting to see why Agassi thought he could implement tactics like that a day later in the final against a similar opponent, although that opponent had sharper reflexes and fast twitch fibres.
Becker was known to often try and break the other guy's strength down, instead of capitalizing on their weakness. And when it worked, it was often devastating. And by the way, Agassi himself came to experience that habit of Becker's at Wimbledon 1995.

Freak, colors everywhere, personality, atypical game, slamming baseliner and taking high risk shots. He was the bad boy who never should have played tennis. He would have been good at a lot of things and tennis was just one of them. Becker was bred to play euro tennis. When Agassi was at his best it was mystical and magical and better than anyone. What a load of drivel ! First of all do you know what 'lanky' is? Well Becker's physique was certainly not lanky. You make some comments which are so completely false its laughable. Do you know mens pro tennis? Agassi at his best was 'better than anyone' WTF... Sampras beat his a$$ in H2H and especially in Grand Slams. What are you on about???? Agassi on his day was' better than any other players best' ??? You obviously didn't watch Sampras in the 90's. You're clueless. PS=14 GS to AA= 8 GS. End of argument. Stick to corporate housing buddy. Tennis aint your game.
@@paulhussey8981 Sampras never won the French though 🤔. I'd take 8 slams (including French) + olympic gold+ masters over 14 slams (excluding French) + #1 status any day.
@@stephenglasse9756 what you would take and who was objectively the superior player are two different things. You obviously don't watch or play tennis or you wouldn't make such asinine statements.
@@paulhussey8981 you don't agree that it's an objective fact that Agassi won 8 slams including French + olympic gold but Sampras failed at the French and olympic gold? Maybe you don't understand the difference between objective and subjective 🤔. I think one can argue that a man who won all four slams on four different surfaces is a superior player to the one who failed 🤔. I think that there are more than a few who think when you take agassi's all-round talents: ball striking, groundstrokes, forehand and backhand, return, dropshot, movement, touch etc it's 'superior' to Sampras'' all-round talents/game minus serve. In other words Sampras service was so powerful it took him beyond Agassi in many games. But hey it's not like Agassi never beat Sampras. He did so frequently. It's not 35-5 to Sampras it's more like 21-14.
@@stephenglasse9756 you are trying to bend the facts to suit your argument. Yes AA won the French and the Olympic gold, two things Sampras never did. But to take those two accomplishments and somehow bend it to your narrative that those two, plus AA's all round game somehow trumps Sampras' one dimensional serve game is ludicrous. When discussing the GOATs Sampras is sometimes referenced along side the three current contenders. AA is NEVER mentioned in the same discussion. Why? Because in his ERA Sampras beat his ass in virtually every meaningful GS match. He also eclipsed him in ATP Final wins , H2H and overall GS wins, and year ending no. 1 ranking time, nearly DOUBLING his tally of GS titles of 8 with his 14. What part don't you understand in this comparison? AA holds only one significant statistic over PS and that being winner of all four slams. Sampras is on Mount Olympus along side Laver, Fed, Djokovic and Nadal. Agassi sits on a level below them, along side Becker, Edberg, Lendl etc
Why Becker usually play almost exclusively from baseline against Agassi before 95? While powerful, he not Lendl and his movement from baseline was not the same level as Sampras.
The courts were much faster, but because of strings/racquets the players had to create all their power from their own muscles and technique/ these days, the racquets/strings alone create so much power. Also, Becker was not the most powerful baseliner. He was hitting a lot of high looping balls, junk, and slices, so Agassi therefore didn't have much rhythm from Becker to give his own shots power. So it looks like they're not playing as fast as these days. Watch a match from the early nineties between Agassi and, say, Courier. They were the rare guys at the time who both played totally from the baseline on hardcourts, and they CRUSHED the ball. But the racquets/strings being more forgiving were one of the many reasons that Agassi played his best tennis in the 2000's. The newer technology played to his strengths so well. Watch Agassi-Blake 2005 US Open QF. You will NOT see a harder-hitting, "faster" match than that one. Truly breath-taking how hard and flat they were crushing every shot that day. I still have yet to see a match with hitting as hard as that. These days, all the top players hit with so much topspin that the ball doesn't move through the air quite as fast. There are obviously exceptions, like Del Potro who hits a pretty flat forehand.
Some of it I believe is the sound of the ball is different because of the microphones they are using, so it seems "slower." However the strings they are using does play a big part as well
Wow. So today's guys hit the ball harder with their modern strings. Impressive. Anything else? What about skill? Variety? Agility? Tactical prowess? Being able to hit all the shots? I don't see much of that in today's game.
For some reason I didn't like Becker so much at the time, but it's amazing how effortless his strokes were. Great flow. Only comparable to Federer, perhaps.
I prefer Boris. Played in a more interesting era and had tougher competition, too.

Agassi sits on a level below them, along side Becker, Edberg, Lendl etc
the stands are like half empty
It was a weekday ,most people were working
It was a “Super Saturday” 11am start. The crowd always slowly fills in for the 11am match no matter what day of the week.
nice ! volley
When you search for this Summer of Revenge after reading Agassi's Open.
You mean 1995?
serve n volley
Why Becker usually play almost exclusively from baseline against Agassi before 95? While powerful, he not Lendl and his movement from baseline was not the same level as Sampras.
He didn’t usually, but for some reason he did here. When he beat Agassi, he played his normal aggressive serve and volley game.
@@blake7871 no.vs Agassi at WI he started to play more from baseline in second set.
@@thebigmonstaandy6644 Which Wimbledon you talking about?
@@blake7871 95.in 92 he played always SAV
Because Agassi scared him to death with his return of serve.

priceless
Wow the game was so slow back then...
it was actually much faster, today its all spin, back then it was all speed
G・G sucrates
Becker was trying to pick up Brooke Shields, but Agassi showed him who was the real boss.
Now Becker is broke, but Agassi is thriving.
En 1990 Brooke n'était pas en couple avec Agassi
That was at Wimbledon 1995 Semi Finals.
That was US Open Semi 1995!
The chair umpire and the linesmen were all bias to Agassi
BiasED. Bias is a noun, not an adjective.
They were like, they didn't have to inject poison from Dr.Fauchi.
You mentally ill or just a Russian troll?
my english is not good, I thinking the same shitmake speak in the backround aggessi dis becker high

Nobody did anybody…thought….it’s just a play of Tennis …in a healthy Timeline….great day!!👍👍☘️❤️
Agassi at 20 looks 30 at least. He looks older than Becker here.
these players make far more unforced errors than fed or nadal. honestly they look like club players compared to fed and nadal
Errors were more common generally back then. I'd like to see Nadal try and compete with either of these two using these rackets
Agassi was a legend. The only man who caught the ball quick on its return, allowing so much more power.
Badis the speed of the US Open hasn't changed since 1978.
Agassi beated federer a couple of times
