The best thing about this movie, is that it gave us Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

I never understood the hate for M:I-2. Personally I love it. It's a big glossy stylish operatic action movie from the great John Woo with cool action sequences and stunts and an absolutely phenominal Hans Zimmer score which has been on permanent music rotation for me since the year 2000.

I don't think nobody hates it, it's just that MI:2 is more 'cheesy' I guess (because that's how all movies in the year 2000 are), compared to the serious, noir first one and the contemporary espionage action tone that comes after.

Calling this movie "the worst one" doesn't necessarily mean it's bad. In a series of movies like Mission Impossible, one _has_ to be the worst one, just like one _has_ to be the best.
This is objectively speaking of course. Which movie is best and which is worst is subjective, for each viewer to decide for themselves.
This movie is good, but not as good as the rest, in most people's minds.

Now that there are so many movies in the franchise, this one sticks out the widest in terms of its over-the-top style and tone as well as its depiction of Ethan; all of which are big trademarks of director John Woo. But it makes sense in the progression of Ethan as a character because it establishes that he's a daredevil in his personal life and it informs his approach to missions. And the next movie continues to explore whether it's possible for him to have emotional bonds with people and still do his job.

21:12: "But "risky" is his middle name!"
Actually. . . "Risky" is his "Business."
Part of the reason this movie is what it is is because there was some criticism of the first film for being too complex, to convoluted, too confusing. So this was deliberately kept simpler than the first. I don't want to say "dumbed down," because it wasn't, there's still a lot of cleverness in what's going on, the heroes (and the villains) are primarily thinking their way towards their goals. But it was wrapped in more of the "gunshots and explosions" that late 90s/early 2000s action movies relied on.

    • @javix2013
      @javix2013 หลายเดือนก่อน

McQuarrie is solid in terms of scripts, but in terms of his direction, it seems to me to be a direction that is only correct to comply with what the script asks for, it is very close to a generic direction, without its own style, they are films that are good, they are good , but they are not memorable, McQuarrie needs to find a directing style, so that we want to watch his movies over and over again and remember them by heart, I don't know, like putting in some slow motion, playing more with dramatic climaxes combined with good music , make the scenes more gore, cause impact in some way, I feel that he lacks a more personal direction style as if they have it: Nolan, John Woo, Verhoeven, Ridley Scott, Spielberg, even the hated Michael Bay has his style Unique, you see the films of all those directors and feel their DNA in the direction at every moment, you feel the vibes of their directing style.

The original idea was that different directors would do just 1 movie.
And this was assigned to the Leyend John Woo.
It´s a fun movie, very enjoyable.

I mean, this movie is fine. It doesn't feel as much like a Mission Impossible as the other ones, but it is not a bad movie. The kicking in the fight scenes might be a bit out of character, but it looks cool. So yeah, in my opinion, there is no bad MI movie. That being said, they get better and better, especially once you get to the fourth movie.

@AddieCounts I grew up watching all the MI films. For me, this is not a bad film. It's just not a good John Woo style film. It was so jarring from the other films that it tends to get some level of hate. Another fun fact I love about this film: The opening scene with Tom Cruise climbing the mountain was legit. Tom actually did all that. His mother was on the set and saw the part where he almost fell, which was real and gave the director a heart attack. 😂

Silly as it can get, but there are some amazing action and full of surprises had got. And yeah, when Sean's right handed man was killed by Sean, it was nuts.
Edit: 23:18 yep.. That's me when i saw it first time. Still epic. 26:21 that was also a real set.

Yeah, while many think it's the weakest in the franchise, it's not a horrible movie. But they do get substantially better and better as you go which is obviously very rare with any franchise.
I remember seeing this in theaters and it was such a great movie to start off a summer of amazing summer flicks:
    - Mission Impossible II
    - Gladiator
    - The Perfect Storm
    - X-Men
    - The Patriot
    - Gone in 60 Seconds

Don't listen to dummies who claim to be a fan of blind reaction channels, but then try to influence your reactions by telling you what you'll think about a movie. If you stop and think about it, it doesn't even make sense. People should let you watch and decide for yourself -- ESPECIALLY if they want to see how you react to it.

I like the stylistic visuals and while it's not the same tone as the rest of the series, it's still a lot of popcorn fun. The story is a complete ripoff of Hitchcock's Notorious, so if you want an even more suspenseful version, check out Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman in that! Love your enthusiasm!

I know M:I 2 is a bit cheesy compared to the first and the 3rd and up, but if you look back in the 60s and 70s, spy films were supposed to be cheesy, campy, and over the top (not to mention 90s Bond films, which were thick with gadgets and explosions) 😂

By the way, Limp Bizkit's main theme version is amazing. And Nyah's theme, by Hans Zimmet and Heitor Pereira is stunning. "I disappear" by Metallica, Foo Fighters and Brian May covering "Have a cigar", "Scum of the Earth" by Rob Zombie, "Carnival" by Tori Amos... this soundtrack is amazing.

M:I-2 may not be as "high-brow" as the rest of the franchise, but you can't say no to an action flick directed by John Woo with bike-fu in it and a soundtrack featuring Limp Bizkit, Metallica, Godsmack, Rob Zombie, Foo Fighters, Butthole Surfers and Chris Cornell. I had this movie's soundtrack and listened to it so much the tape got worn. This is peak 2000's.

I might have said this before, first three MI movies are quite amazing in their own right for their own style. After that though it just becomes generic action movie that you watch just cause you want to see what crazy stunt Cruise does in it and because they're slightly better than Craig's Bond movies.

Not my favorite but definitely still enjoyable and unlike many other people I think the cinematography is pretty cool. I am curious how different of a movie this could have been if Cruise let John Woo have more say about the end product. Apparently a lot of stuff cut out by Cruise himself. Interestingly enough this movie is my mom’s favorite Mission Impossible - she would quote (for some reason) “Terrain terrain, pull up, pull up” many a time over the years lol.

ya... just because a movie is considered "bad", doesn't mean you can't or won't like it. Even if the movie well and truly is an objectively really bad movie, it is still possible to like it.
The same goes the other way around. Just because a movie is supposed to be fantastically awesome... even if it is objectively awesome, doesn't mean you are going to like it.
From my experience, normal audiences... and I consider the vast majority of "reactors" to be "normal audiences (what I mean by "normal" in this case is people that don't really go in for all the background lore and cannon, or pay much attention to all the little inconsistencies and contradictions that pretty much ALL movies have) will tend to like more movies than the "afficionados". Simply because they are either not versed in the lore/background/etc.. and don't see the mistakes because they don't look for them. This is a great way to watch movies...especially for reactors, as it allows you to like many more movies than some people would.
I know there are some movies I absolutely detested, but you loved them, or at least liked them. And vice versa! But it's the same for me for ALL the reactors I watch!

The thing is that Ethan is practically invincible in this one, a stereotypical action hero. All kicks land and all shots hit. It's not very "impossible" and removes all tension. The sequels go back to less kicking, shooting and a lot more spy- and teamwork
