"Cuban?"
"No, Dutch-Irish. My father was from Wales."
Utterly ridiculous and brilliant.
Nielsen's mother was from Wales.
His father was from Denmark.
The opening had the late 1980s "villains": Idi Amin, Yasser Arafat, Muammar Gadafy, Fidel Castro, Mikhail Gorbachev, and the Ayatollah Khomeini. All very good lookalikes.
Except that Gorba wasn't a villain. But yes.
Geez, to put villains in quotes with those people. Incredible.
Plus the opening fight scene is at least partly an homage to the Three Stooges.
@@Anon54387well arguably they were "vilalns" only for the USA (europe is a de facto vassal of the US)
Not gonna get political here but remember that you are not immune from propaganda because you live in a "supposedly" "free" nation.
If a nation was actually free i doubt would have to spend all the time claiming it is..
@@Anon54387Most of them have a lower body count than a US president in their first term
I swear... the bribing scene gets me every time 😂
That is by far my favorite part 😂
Such a good scene the pacing is toooo good!!!
So goofy and they play it so straight.
That is my favorite bit, but my favorite visual gag is safe sex. :D
And my favorite "but why?!?" is "boiled a roast".
EVERY TIME! 😂
When Leslie *Nielsen died, various news outlets--especially sports news--wrote his obituary to Enrico Palazzo. That's how you know your jokes have legs.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Also, when the Queen passed away, Reggie made a twitter post about it.
@@holddowna It's ridiculous because Canadians are bonkers unlike we Americans who are never silly.
Nielsen*
love it! didnt know that ... all these years.
"Hey!! It's Enrico Palazzo!" is one of the greatest jokes ever.
Trivia- the actor saying that was also Francis in Pee Wee's Big Adventure.
@@mblackwland Teen Wolfs teammate
It's such a wholesome throwaway gag - they show you that the real Palozzo is miserable at how badly the anthem goes, but he gets reputational redemption. They didn't have to do that but they did.
I still randomly say it.
Pure comedy gold. Leslie Neilsen was a one of a kind comedian that is missed but not forgotten
What is so strange is that he was a serious actor for years, and never really good at it. His bit in Airplane turned his career around and his real genius was finally realized. (His deadpan delivery works better in comedy than drama.)
He’s funny!!!
@@johnnehrich9601he had a great dramatic turn in “Nuts” with Barbara Streisand.
Nielsen wasn't a bad actor. He used to play against loads of the biggest female stars in Hollywood at the time, and could easily have been a houshold name, but he was a bit impatient and not really satisfied with the parts he got to play, and tried other things instead. But yeah, he had his great breakthrough with "Airplane!". No-one played deadpan as well as he did, and he got that from his roots as a dramatic actor.
That "poor schmuck" was Yankees Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson. Excellent reaction.
Reginald Martinez Jackson.
Reggie Jackson was also a significant component on those Oakland A's teams that won three world championships from 1972 to 1974.
He’s also a famous car collector.
Mr. October!
"poor schmuck"??? that's Mr. October!!!
"Why is there cake?!" - to celebrate the drug deal!

It was a urinal cake. Drebin recognizes Nordberg's face in it in Scene 12.

Yeah, like when I saw the Muslim leader saying that they need one big attack, I thought "it shows that that was before 911". You cannot get away with that today. (manipulating my wording a bit to increase the chance of it not being blocked)
Now it is time for "Airplane!"

If someone liked Naked Gun, they should watch "Hot Shots Part Deux", which was directed by Jim Abrahams (the "A" in "ZAZ") and has the same sort of humor. Additionally, starting with Scary Movie #3 one of the Zuckers directed those as well.
The joke about all the gone off food in the fridge is because it had been something like 6 years since the Police Squad tv series. The joke was that Drebbin literally hasn't been in that apartment during the intervening time as if his off screen existence doesn't exist.
I saw it always more as a single guys apartment
20:10.....They're eating pistachios, Ames. They used to dye the shells red, and if you ate too many of them, the red dye would rub off on your fingers.
Really!!!!!
@@holddowna Really. I don't think they dye the shells anymore, now. I haven't seen them in a long time.
Originally, they used to harvest pistachios by leaving on the tree long enough until they fell off and could be gathered up on the ground. This left ugly stains on the shells, so the red was intense enough to cover over these stains.
Since then, they have invented machines to pick them off the tree itself, and hence the need for the stain not needed.
@@johnnehrich9601 I didn't know that! Thanks for the info! 👍✌️
@@tomstanziola1982 They are hard to find. They were imported from Iran up until '79 when sanctions were imposed, and in the 80's we began to grow them in the US. They red dye hid staining that happened during harvesting. We improved harvesting and no longer needed to cover the staining.
Beside the siliness, one must appreciate, how good the filmmaking was. How they set up the scenes, frames and everything. They really put a lot of work into it.
"What kind of name is Nordberg?" The Zuckers and (and myself) are from Milwaukee, WI and Nordberg was the name of a large manufacturing company here back in the '90's but was later bought out by Rexworks, and renamed Rexnord. On a side note, back in 1992, I worked for an exterminator and was spraying Charlotte Zucker's house, ( who is the Zucker's mother). Spent over an hour talking with her about her son's movies. A very sweet woman. She also appears in most of their movies. In Naked Gun, she was Ricardo Montalbon's Secretary, who tried to shoot Pahpshmir.
The Nordic name is a joke playing on the same string as the CIA agent in Russia who learns the perfect accent, can drink liters of Vodka... but gets blown in 1 second. Very very non PC.
"You killed 5 actors....GOOD ones!" - great line
And you can still hear "Hey - it's Enrico Palazzo!" at games sometimes.
The first Mariners batter was Jay Johnstone, 20 year major league veteran and note prankster.
I think someone else already mentioned the player/assassin was Reggie Jackson, MLB hall-of-famer
That scene was spoofing a dirty Harry movie from the 1970s
Ah, yes, I'd forgotten that was Johnstone.
@@VoxRox1 And not just that, Frank's only *now* learning after a year that he killed five actors.
"I'm boiling a roast" is still one my favourite lines. Just so dumb.
So dumb!!!! Lolol

It was a parody of Fatal attraction, where the mistress (Kim Bassinger?) breaks in and boils the rabbit of her lover's child.
I like to think that OJ's punishment in Hell is just an endless repeat of Nordberg's abuse in this movie
And when OJ takes the bus to Detroit.
What makes you think he's in hell?
Me too. My late mom was good friends with Nicole's mom. Living in South O.C. near the O.J./Nicole's beach place I know a lot of shit about O.J. well before he was a murderer.
15:50....The driving instructor, Ames, is played by John Houseman, one of the greatest actors in film history. He started out in the 1930s, and he worked at his craft for about 60 years.
Ohhh!!
I remember him when I was a teenager in the 80's...he did a commercial for some financial company and the tagline was "They make money the old fashioned way...They eaaaaaarrrrrn it."
I also remember him being the voice in a Mork & Mindy episode as Merth's (Jonathan Winters) computer.
@@megiloth3634 I love those old commercials! 👏👏👏👏
I highly recommend checking out "Top Secret!" from the Z-A-Z filmography, you'd love it. Even crazier gags, Val Kilmer's first big role and he nails it, spoof of Elvis war flicks, best boot humor in movie history.. and sort of a musical as well. In my personal ranking Airplane and Top Secret are neck and neck.
"There are no good white basketball players, my friend." 😂 Love that movie.
Fun fact. The movie was based on a tv show called Police Squad with the same type of humor. It even had the exact same intro with the police car driving
the series was canceled really early because the network thought the humor was to fast/slap stick and the audience wouldn't get it. Lot of the jokes/characters etc was brought from the show and written into naked gun. They made the show into a movie.
And the TV show Police Squad was a spoof of the sixties b&w TV series M Squad, where also the narration style is coming from.
The Naked Gun is based on a 1982 TV series called Police Squad, only 6 episodes, same cast, same humor, a must watch if you like the movie.
Cool!!!
"Who are you, and how did you get in here?"
"I'm the locksmith, and I'm the locksmith."

I hate to be that guy, but only Leslie was the same actor in the TV series.
@@joeconcepts5552 fair enough, it’s been a good 15 years since I bought the dvd and maybe 5 since the last time I watched the show. But, I did pull it from the shelf to rewatch this week.I was in 7th grade when it originally aired, it was what we talked about all day the next day at school… good times.
@@craigreipold3931 Actually, the scientist guy was the same one in the show and movies, I forgot that one. But Ed and Nordberg were played by different actors.
That Reggie Jackson was in this added SO much to it. He’s one of the greatest players of all time. You don’t get the nickname Mr. October without being a World Series phenomenon. And I say this as a Red Sox fan.
Shoulda been Bucky f'n Dent 😋
I meant Leslie Nielsen at a celebrity golf tournament in Connecticut back in the late 80s and he was a funny and charming person.
You should definitely react to Airplane with Leslie Nielsen.
I must!
Yes and it's by the same crew that made the Naked Gun, Zucker Abrams and Zucker. I think the Naked Gun was funnier, but somehow Airplane! was a better movie, like it all hung together a bit more.
Leslie Nielsen also appeared in commercials for Dollar Rental Car. I watched them film one of those at John Wayne airport one time while waiting on my flight. He genuinely seemed to be having a great time even in between takes.
i couldnt help but laugh when you said "oh, its OJ." cause it sounded more like "ugh....this f&%king guy."😂
"What are these guys doing in the queen's box?" LMAO, you should be a screenwriter for the Naked gun movies.
Other movies like Naked Gun that have the same type of humor: Airplane! (airplane disaster movie spoof), Top Secret (spy movie spoof), Loaded Weapon (Lethal Weapon spoof), Hot Shots (Top Gun spoof), Hot Shots Part Deux (Rambo spoof), Mafia! 20:00 They are eating pistachio nuts, which until the 1990s were commonly sold in the USA with a red seasoning powder on them. Basically, they were dyed red. The shells outside the doors indicate why they have so much red on their hands and mouths.
"Hot Shots' is another good slap stick movie. Naked Gun and Hot Shots both have sequels
Ed, played by George Kennedy was a Best Actor Oscar winner.
This was a movie based on a tv show called Police Squad which had the same cast except for OJ.
On the stakeout they are eating pistachios . They used to be sold with dyed red shells.
I totally forgot about the "Bingo!" joke, I laughed so many times when I first saw it!
Leslie Neilson made it on the Canadian Walk of Fame in 2001 and Officer of the order of Canada. Born in Regina Saskatchewan 1926. Such a great actor.
Not to forget that his half-uncle was the Danish-American actor Jean Hersholt who twice was awarded an honorary Oscar and a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Leslie Nielsen's father was actually a police officer, being an immigrant from Denmark who joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and his mother was from Wales. His brother became the Deputy Prime Minister of Canada for a few years in the 80's
Lol. I literally watched for the first 20 minutes, waiting for the BINGO line. Something told me Ames would laugh...
Good one, Butterwings! Yeah, this one is a hoot and a half. The 2 1/2 sequel is pretty funny too if you ever need more laughs. Thanks for sharing this one! 🙂 Oh, and the "hill of beans" speech at the end, that was Casablanca. The dog and the mail carrier cracked me up!
Fun Fact: Leslie Nielson was a beloved Canadian born in Regina, Saskatchewan. His brother was the deputy Prime Minister of Canada. Comedic acting runs strong in Canada.
I watched this more times than I can remember as a kid. It's still funny. Leslie Nielson was a comic GOD.
The tall guy Al was played by Tiny Ron. If you want to know what he looks like, you can see him in "Roadhouse", "Ace Ventura:Pet Detective" or "Last Man Standing". Just look for a very tall bad guy in each film. 😊
I love how your face changed once you saw O. J😂😂😂
When my grandmother was losing her memory she was staying with us. Naked Gun came on HBO and we watched it together. She howled laughing. Two days later it came on again and she didn’t remember it. So we watched it and she howled laughing again.
That’s such a WONDERFUL story! Thanks for sharing !
Leslie Neilson was a Canadian actor! Canada once again giving our best to the US.
I ONLY learnt this after posting and now I LOVE him EVEN MORE and all his brilliance!
It’s Nielsen, he was of danish origen. His father was a danish born Mountie. 🇩🇰
@@holddowna check out some pictures of him as a younger actor. Dude was a stud, too. Incredibly handsome.
The baseball announcers are Curt Gowdy and Jim Palmer. Yes, both real. Palmer was also a former standout player. Dick Enberg and Mel Allen were also shown.
I saw this in the theater. Of course was so fun being with 100 other people laughing hysterically.
''Oh no they got this poor shmuck'' @ Reggie Jackson I lmao at that one, love it! Yes, all announcers were real baseball announcers except the Doctor, she would appear in talk shows like Carson and Donahue.
Dr Joyce Brothers was almost as popular as Dr Phil back in the day. She was everywhere, it seemed.

This movie is one of my all time favourites. My friend and I knew all the dialogues inside out. We were able to recreate the entire movie all by ourselves. When other people listened to our conversations they did not understand what we were talking about, because we would recite entire scenes just for the fun of it.
The "programming" was basically just anybody with a bracelet/watch on. Lazy way to control people for the sake of ridiculousness. No pre-programming necessary.
And the fridge wasn't moving, just the insanely old cheese on top of it that grew a consciousness.
Love that you got such a kick out of this one. Caught this as a kid and used to LOSE IT watching/re-watching these movies, complete with cramps and sore cheeks. Still gets a laugh out of me to this day. Wish we had more movies like this, that were actually funny instead of just plain stupid (shout out to Airplane! too). Good times.
Great Aussie accent, btw. Definitely makes up for your English one. :p
They were eating pistachios in the car- the shells back then used to be prone to black mold so they dyed them with a powdery pink.
Mr. Leslie Nielsen, another Saskatchewan actor that does excellent comedy.🤣🤣

Born and raised in Regina from interviews I had seen years ago and I think his father was a member of the royal canadian mountain police assigned to depot division (rcmp training facility).
Those watches were used in an episode of the sixties spy show 'The Avengers'. Peter (Moff Tarkin) Cushing had one strapped to heroine Emma Peel's ( Diana Rigg, 'Game of Thrones') wrist.
The announcer on the left was Jim Palmer (I think with the Angels for a long time), older guy on the right was Vin Scully announcer for the Dodgers and the programmed guy is "Mr, October", Reggie Jackson from the Yankees.
There was a TV show called "Police Squad" and Leslie Nelson, and this character was in it. This is a movie "adaptation" of the series.
Leslie Nielsen is a fellow Canadian! There are 2 more Naked Guns and a sadly short lived TV show called Police Squad! which is really good. You should also watch Airplane! which is the movie that started Nielsen's comedy career.
The TV show Police Squad! was just too good for TV. Well worth watching.
Yes, I paws-itively loved this. As difficult as it is to believe, not many people know about these films and it is sad. Thank you for sharing your reaction with us, and hopefully more people can appreciate the amazing talent that Leslie Nielson brought onto the big screen. It was an absolute joy to see you again 🌹

Yes. _That's_ why airports misplace luggage, sometimes.
Awesome film. My absolute favourite among these ones is Top Secret, which is beyond bonkers and hilarious. But pretty much all of them have a lot of funny stuff.
The last movie in the Naked Gun series debuted in theaters just a few months before O.J. Simpson's infamous "Bronco chase" in June of 1994.
This is my 2nd view of your naked views of my classics. !!! You actually GET IT.😅
They're eating pistachios, they used to be dyed red. Growing up I thought that was the natural color of them.
Thats soo weird!!! Haha I’ve never seen that!!

You need to watch "Airplane!" as it's made by the same people and also has Leslie Nielson in it.
I must!!
Airplane! The movie. Is Leslie Nielson 1st comedy. Before that he was always a serious actor so he caught everyone off guard when he was So Funny!
Leslie Nielsen is a legend his movies always make me laugh RIP
I love the driving instructor.
If I remember correctly the third Naked Gun movie, Naked Gun 33 1/3, was released about 2 months before OJ did the deed.
my aunt owns the house Leslie Nielsen lived in until he was about 4 in Regina, Saskatchewan
It was fun watching you giggle for the entire movie. It's just fun, stupid humor that is good for the soul every once in a while. I absolutely loved your intro also, too cute. Stay adorable. 🤗❤🐶
In the car scene they're eating Pistachios - Pistachio growers in the Middle East used to dye the shells red as a way to differentiate them from competitors, which is why they have the red dye all over their mouths because they're eating a mountain of pistachios. Another prod at cops eating a lot on stakeouts, lol.
The files from police squad part was the show of this in 82 which was eventually cancelled after only 6 episodes which turned into 3 movies and a remake now and or about to start filming
If you really liked this one, you should watch "Airplane!", and maybe "Airplane!!". 😁 You might also like "Top Secret", "Not Another Teen Movie", and the "Hot Shots" movies. The "Scary Movies" series of movies are also pretty fun. I'd say that most of these would fall under the same type of humor. And there are two more "Naked Gun" movies to watch as well.
You missed the fact that the Driving Instructor was John Houseman famous for "The Paper Chase" both movie and TV series. You definitely should watch the "Paper Chase" movie it's a classic of the 70's comedy/drama. I know you would like it.
OMG. never heard this one. "Why was the fridge moving?" it was the moldy cheese on top moving. dang. hahahahahahahahahahahaha
In 1975, People Magazine described Simpson as "the first [Black] athlete to become a bona fide lovable media superstar".
I've gotta admit, I've never heard anyone call Reggie Jackson a poor schmuck! 😁

03:09 This guy should've been on the jury.
Leslie Nielsen is just a treasure 😂
I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but the driving instructor was actor and theater/film producer John Houseman who famously collaborated with Orson Welles. He won an oscar for best supporting actor for The Paper Chase. He also produced The Blue Dahlia.
Yes, the narration is intended to evoke a film noir feel. And the reference to the ankle bracelet is a nod to a scene from Double Indemnity, but I guess you haven't seen it yet. It's on the AFI 100, of course, so you will get to it eventually.
The "scmuck" was Hall of fame outfielder Reggie Jackson.
True srory...many years after this movie was made, Queen Elizabeth actually DID ATTEND a major league baseball game...Reggie Jackson was a coach for one of the 2 teams. The players and coaches from both teams got to meet the Queen..and Reggie was praying to God that she had never ever seen the Naked Gun..
The baseball player assassin is Mr. October himself, Reggie Jackson, an actual baseball legend.
The "schmuck" is Reggie Jackson, probably the most famous baseball player of the 70s and only recently retired when this movie was made.
Police Squad was a TV series, hence - From the files of Police Squad.
19:50 Pistachios. They used to dye them red to look fancy.
When they are eating in the car, the thing that makes their lips red are pistachios. Apparently back then they were preserved using something that turned them red.
I never got that one either until I learned about the red preservative several years ago.

Queen Elizabeth actually made 270 visits abroad... purely to endorse something positive, give a speech or show support.
First time I saw this, when the car chase starts and he says "follow that car" I expected it to just take off without him 😆
Watch Blazing Saddles! The greatest comedy there is. They said we're not gonna worry about offending one group of people, we're going to offend them all.
Oh, you've stepped in it now, Ames. There's a train to crazytown, and you're driving the bus. Well, you know what I mean. Leslie never looked back at seriousness. Those red things were pistachios. They were dyed red to hide imperfections. At least, that's what we were told. After New Mexico and California began high volume production, the red imported ones pretty much disappeared. I think about them now and then but I don't really miss them.
