- When looking for things to do in Cozumel Mexico, one thing will undoubtedly stand out - Cozumel Diving. Yes, that's right; diving in Cozumel is one of the very top things to do in Cozumel Mexico. The mesoamerican reef (the second largest reef in the world!) extends up the coast of Mexico, right along Cozumel's coastline. We went to the popular Palancar Reef and did two spectacular dives. If you're looking for even more things to do in Cozumel, we'll be looking at Cozumel's "wild side", aka the East Side, next week.

I don't think it comes through in the video, but the turtle we saw was SO BIG! We also saw 3 sharks but we weren't quick enough with the camera 😢
Great video! I did a Discover Scuba a year ago in Cozumel and LOVED IT! As soon as I got back to Canada I started my Scuba courses. My husband and I went back in December and I did my Open Water and passed! What blew my mind was how much the reefs have recovered after almost a year of no cruise ships. There was barely any coral bleaching. The ocean is truly amazing and every diver needs to visit Cozumel.
Wow, there was a noticeable difference in the health of the coral reefs without the cruise ships?! I knew they were damaging the ecosystem but I had no idea it was that extreme! I suppose that was one of the benefits of the pandemic... Hopefully they can find a long-term solution to help protect the reefs there.

It is a really good place to scuba in Cozumel. We are usually there a month(two 2 week trips in the winter). If you want to do the bull shark dive or cenotes you can do that in Playa del Carmen area. The bull sharks are there for a couple of months around December and I went with a group that didn’t feed the sharks. Not sure how many dives you have in or what you are comfortable with. Have fun, enjoy and stay healthy. 🇨🇦
Thanks for the recommendations! We’re considering getting our advanced certification so we can confidently dive the cenotes and (possibly) the bull sharks 😬

We dove Palancar Reef and really enjoyed it! If you're feeling confident after that dive you can try a cenote dive

I hope you end up going, it's beautiful! I would say if you rely on internet make sure you ask about wifi speeds at your accommodation; internet can be spotty. And if you have your heart set on doing something you might just want to check they're open (in 2020). Most tours are still operating but we noticed a lot of restaurants and entertainment venues were closed. .
Does anyone know if you need to be PADI certified to dive? 🤩
They have something called “Discover Scuba” which doesn’t require a certification. It’s a great way to get a taste of scuba diving if you’re unsure whether you want to get certified 😊
