My late wife had a library science degree, and Rachel Weisz's character in this film was one of her favorite depictions of the profession. "I am a librarian" is a wonderful line.

The Mummy Returns didn't age as well as The Mummy imo. The special effects in The Mummy still look great, but in Returns it looks like cutscences from a 20 year old video game.

One of my favorite movies as a kid!
Back in the early '90's, horror film directors Wes Craven John Landis, John Carpenter, Joe Dante,Tobe Hooper, Clive Barker, Mick Garris, and George Romero were considered for Directing the project.
Stephen Sommers, a huge fan of the original 1932 film, signed on after his last film DEEP RISING bombed at the box office a year earlier.
Before Brendan Fraser was cast as Rick O'Connell, Kurt Russell, Sylvester Stallone, Matthew McConaughey, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Tom Cruise, and Leonardo DiCaprio were considered for the part.
Cruise would star in the 2017 reboot which was not well received by Critics or fans of the 1999 movie.
Even Brendan Fraser said that "it was a lifeless, joyless, soulless remake to a much beloved franchise."
The movie was a box office and critical success, making $420 million dollars against a $75-80 million dollar budget.

I love the mummy and the mummy returns. In the mummy returns, there is some absolutely horrific cgi in one part but the movie itself is great. Funny, action, little romance, great callbacks from the first movie. If you watch the second movie, you’ll see more of why they are villains and more about their relationship. It’s a great addition to this movie. I don’t always recommend sequels but i recommend the mummy returns. Also, the magi was my formative teenage crush. Sooo hot. Rick is obviously gorgeous and hilarious. Even jonathan is attractive in a kind of studious, goofy way. And evie is obviously stunning. Love your reaction. I watched this movie and the sequel on repeat as a teen. Love them so much.

When I was a kid, I unfortunately watched this movie and had nightmares. :D These bugs scared the shit out of me (also the part with the guy having his eyes and other organs being taken). But now it's now one of my favourite movies and the cast is gorgeous. Brendan Fraser used to be my 90's and early 2000's crush. :D Also, I have a soft spot for "The Mummy" himself. 😃

I'm so happy! I knew you would enjoy this one! It has such a fun jumble of different genres. I think what really works for it is it has great characters and it doesn't take itself too seriously. It even pokes fun at itself like when the wind keeps blowing forebodingly: "That happens a lot around here". The second movie is a lot of fun. I don't recommend movie 3. I was laughing at your loathing of Benny. Gotta hand it to his actor, Kevin O'Connor, he was fun to hate and did have some great comedic moments.

I try not to be a malicious person in real life, but when Benny gets his comeuppance....
It just feels golden to see a weaselly bully get what's coming to him in the story.
Too many get away with such behaviors in the real world.
A horrible way to go, for sure, so again - in real life I would rather see mercy.
But, he brought that fate upon himself...

  • @rayphelps2129

This was a huge hit back in the summer of ‘99. Take one half of ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ and one half of ‘Army of Darkness’ and you get this highly entertaining movie. Tongue is very firmly in cheek and everyone is in on the joke. Really like that they (for the most part) didn’t use the side characters as total cardboard cutouts. Everyone had their own role and personality.
There were two sequels to this. I didn’t care too much for the second one but the third one (The Dragon Emperor) is fairly entertaining. But this first one is the best of this series.
Great movie. I have the DVD somewhere, lol.

This is indeed a fun movie. It has everything you would see in the Indiana Jones movies, action, suspense, supernatural elements, gruesome death scenes, the lot.
It's interesting that only 6 of the plagues were seen in the movie and the ones that were missing were the lice, frogs, death of livestock and death of the first born. Perhaps they couldn't figure out how to utilise them in the movie so just left them out.

Brendon is amazing but to me Rachel is always the star...that woman can take any movie no matter how bad the story or script and make it good or at least not fully trash any way, not saying that about this movie of course because I love this one so much and no matter how many times I see it I still enjoy every moment. I saw this one in the theaters and loved every moment of it also the actor of the head of the majai or however it;s written is actually an actor born and raised here in Israel and his name is Oded Fehr and yes he is such a good actor as well and is still acting even to this day in both tv and movies as well.

I love your reaction. I can't help but laugh when you're laughing. Yes, Brendan Frasier was really good looking in these movies. He is very talented from the dramatic movie "Gods and Monsters" to the comedy of George of the Jungle. Oded Fehr played the Magi guy and he went on to be in other things He has a bigger role in the second Mummy movie. I liked his recurring role in the TV series Covert Affairs as an Israeli Spy. He does the spoken history in the beginning and his character was supposed to die, but the director liked him so much as an actor that they changed the script so he could be in the second movie.

The part where they hang Rick O Conell Brendan Fraser actually did that stunt . The scene where you see his eyes almost go into his eyelids was real. I have no idea if the stunt team made a mistake or not . The Director didn't want to put it in but Brendan said leave in . The reason because his character was a guy that was a tough guy and he wanted his character where he wasn't in control that he had to rely on these people to get out of the situation.

I have seen this movie so many times, that I have lost count. That’s pretty much true of any Brendan Fraser movies. I was a huge fan back in the day, and still am! I am so happy that he is getting back into the spotlight, so people can recognize and appreciate his talent! you may want to watch the sequel to this movie, as well as blast from the past, another favorite of mine. However, I don’t think there’s any Brendan Fraser movies that you would like.

Nice job. I love this movie and your reaction to it. Great job. Oh and I love the chair throw part, Winston and the sand monster battle sequence when flying to rescue Evie

You should react to the original 1930s Mummy movie, along with the classic Universal Monsters films.

Hi. I enjoy your reactions. Why wasn’t the TV movie Gypsy not posted on your TH-cam channel? Is it a Patreon only video? Patreon is not in my budget right now. My meds are expensive.

Return of The Mummy is just as good. The 3rd one Tomb of the Golden Emperor is ok and fun but nowhere near as good because the actress who played Evie was replaced. I loved Brendan in it but the Rick/Evie chemistry just isn't there.

*facepalm* he literally has several films under his belt long before he did “George of the Jungle” but yet no one seems to make reactions to more of his older works and seem to care about that movie for fact he is basically runs around half-naked … Of course there are the animated versions of TARZAN but its fair to say LIVE ACTION versions are very different.

Mummy 2 is just as good. I hope you watch it too. Love Brendan.
I agree the forbidden love is a tragedy in these movies; imhotep made me cry in Mummy 2 - such a good actor.
The Magi guy is super hot 🔥 I agree.
