    I literally just had to do this last week. All of a sudden my differential gauges starting going all the way up to 300 degrees. Speedco was going to charge me $300 dollars to change my differential fluid. I was able to buy all of the oil, tools, and drain pans to do it myself for less than $250. And now going forward I don't have to do anything except buy the oil going forward to do it myself which saves a ton of money for not having to go to Speedco for $400 pms and etc. And by the way. My problem was clogged up breather valves was causing the overheating of the differentials. $3 breather valves almost cost me my rear ends. Unbelievable...

    I did notice you had a lot of gray matter come out of your rear end when you took that plug out.

    How do you maintain the tolerance in your differential after removing all the shavings tho? 🤔 😄
    I'm liking these educational preventative maintenance videos. 👍
    Any chance you make a video of replacing those air bags or is it already done?

    I need to change diff oil in my Columbia, if someone using diff lock and they forgot to turn it off an drive for 100 miles amount of metal shaving is increasing, I believe new cascadia has speed sensor and if speed exceed 25mph it turn off diff lock automatically which is good.

    That grey matter can be a sign of neglect. Better to catch it early and take care of it before it leaves you stranded, which you would take care of it before that happened anyway.

    I was always a company driver except for a short stint as a lease operator for Romar transportation systems Chicago Illinois doing crosstown piggy backs out of the rail yards and some local P&D Cartage work useing 1988 Mack R/model 350 maxidyne motor & 5 spd Maxitorque gear box we had a local Oil Jobber that supplied all our lubrication needs and also provided pick up & removal of all used lubrication fluids the contractor supplied all Citgo products which seemed to be fine but the whole point it find someone in your area that provides dependable service at a fair price and uses a major well known brand name lubricants supplier any way when I left Romar I was able to walk away from that deal unblemished & Scott free because the whole thing was pretty much verbal & hand shake I did not do a lot of paperwork correctly thru my haphazard ways the deal kind of self destructed but within 2 days they had another poor sap in that tractor trying to make a go of it I think he went about a full year from my sources

    How do you even over fill a diff. if it runs out of the fill hole when it's full anyway?

  • @dok2304
    @dok2304 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You had way more before. Maybe the truck was not on level ground. Best way to do it out of shop, is to see how much how much came out, and use same amount to put back.

    Hey bud ,I have a 18 speed 389 Pit wanna change my Differential oil front and rear. Would you possibly know How many quarts it takes to fill the front and rear?

    • @DIYSEMI
      @DIYSEMI  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Man I'm really sorry but i don't have time. A speedco will do it cheaper for you because they have bulk oil. probably around 12-15 qts per axle depending on the model. Front one always takes a little more than the rear due to the power divider

    I'd like to drain and fill my differentials as well. My concern is that using the finger test to check the level isn't possible because my thinking is the axle too is full of oil & it lubs the wheel bearings. What do you think about this?
    My take on your observation of an over fill, is that, what you actually had is oil, also, draining out of your axle as well.
    If so your axle oil, which may extend its self to the wheel bearings, too, could leave your axle and your bearings dry. Can you please speak to this?
    Thx for the vid.

    • @DIYSEMI
      @DIYSEMI  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The axle housing is tapered and designed to account for that issue

    • @simpletruckerstuff9478
      @simpletruckerstuff9478 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DIYSEMIit is tapered. It looks like it's tapered dn into the differential! I just check with the Flying J tire & repair shop. They said it cost $210 per differentials. 3 gals at $58 a gal = $180 paying an extra $30, $210 is just about worth as apposed to doing it at home costing 2-3 hrs, is worth it. They're set up. I'm not.
      Anyway Thx4tv
