I believe that my mother became Narcissitic because she had lots of trauma as a child and she never had support. She can’t give me what she does not know how to give. She did the best she could, but she never learned how a loving relationship works, because she didn’t have that. I went no contact because I decided I needed to do what is good for me.
There was never drugs in my family, but there was a lot of trauma.

You're right about the likely origins of your mother's dysfunction. It happened to mine, too. It helps us understand their behavior, but doesn't change the need to remove yourself from it, as you so wisely did!

They use fear. It’s a relationship based on FOG. Fear, obligation, guilt. But when I became aware of this, I became aware of the toxicity and I decided to let go. There is anger, but it’s important to move into a state of foregiveness so that you can move on. That’s what I am doing.

@@ForRelationshipHelp I love Susan forward I was blessed that she actually answered the phone when I reached out in 2006. She was amazing and the catalyst for my healing. I wish she was better known in the psychology community. I was thrilled when I saw your videos with her. I would appreciate you mentioning how very grateful I am that she was kind and helped steer me straight if your still in communication with her. She was truly a blessing in my life. Thank you kindly, Roberta!

I did the best I could, and when I knew how, I did better.

And they love to tell the entire world anything you're struggling with and paint a picture that is TERRIBLY inaccurate and unflattering.
