how you know when to play what scale?

Hi Nikos, just take a look at the chord progression. In the ''verse'' you got A-, C and D, so here you are in G major and you will play the A Dorian mode. In the second part, the ''chorus'' you got A- F G C and D (the D is just a power chord) here you can play the A minor natural scale, but if you want to experiment something different you can try to use, only on C and D, the A Dorian mode.
