There are also so many little details when Lunda is helping with gear instead of the other dwarves. How many times did they go back and painstakingly re-record lines and make sure every part of the continuity matches? The care and attention in this game is absolutely mad.

    Imagine if "old school" Kratos answered the door when Thor came knocking...
    I would fully expect the fight to eventually culminate with him trying to beat Thor with Mjolnir, realize he can't lift it, cue Thor boasting that only HE can lift it, and then Kratos striking the angry mad stare we know and love, as he decides to enact another brutally ironic death upon his enemy.
    The fight would then end with Kratos cutting off Thor's arm, while he wields Mjolnir, and beat the every living bloody pulp out of Thor with his own hammer-wielding arm. lmao
    PS: I now know from other responses to my comment that the whole "worthiness" of Mjolnir's wielder is something that comes from Marvel, and not mythology.

      @@meandmyinsanity While I did consider that option, I feel pretty confident that the choice of beating Thor up with his own severed arm that still has a vice-grip on Mjolnir, would have the Kratos-certified seal of approval lmao :p
      The history of beating the fuck out of his enemies with their own weapons is too important a tradition to old school Kratos.
      The Barbarian General, Hercules, and even Zeus, are just a few of the enemies from whom he "forcefully" apropriated their weapons and introduced them to their faces. :p

    • @RuzYT

      that wouldn't make sense because mjolnir in norse mythology is just really heavy. I dont see how Kratos can beat Thor with Thor's severed hand wielding Mjolnir would work. It'd be cool but it's just not that good a scene.

  • @lucianosgonzalez3561
    @lucianosgonzalez3561 ปีที่แล้ว +4856

    I am glad they explained this. It... still doesn't explain why some of the fights against the Norse gods themselves felt weirdly weak, from the perspectives of the Norse deities themselves, but it's cool that they gave an explanation for Kratos's powers seemingly vanishing. Though truthfully they could have just said that the items, which were the source of most of Kratos's powers and were often brutally extracted trophies from his war against the Olympians, were left in Greece or otherwise lost.

    • @MaxMikescrool1
      @MaxMikescrool1 ปีที่แล้ว +351

      A lot of them were, tho, but it's not as though he didn't have his own high-quality weaponry. As you mentioned, his old weapons were left behind, but that is not the whole truth. Remember, Zeus destroyed all his gear and left Kratos with only his raw powers of a God. However, Kratos did end up acquiring some real high-quality gear in the form of the Leviathan ax, and later Draupnir (tho imo the Blades and Leviathan are much better).
      Besides, as far as Gods go, we only fought 4 of them. Thor was tough but was definitely weakened when Leviathan poisoned him with Eitr, the venom that kills Thor in Norse myth. Baldur was a beast. He was only getting stronger since he kept absorbing Kratos' elemental powers. If it weren't for his madness, I think he'd be a lot more powerful, but he was dangerous. He and Heimdall were relatively young. Odin was relative to Zeus, so he was prepared to face that kind of power. Kratos was far prepared for all of them.
      I believe the main issue was that they took a different direction. The cutscenes were very lack-luster. A simple 'oh, you're in a fight now, start fighting'. It didn't build them up as well. I have this personal theory that the evils may have infected the Norse Gods.
      I also think runes get slept on a lot. It seems Kratos can canonically still perform most of his old moves, but the runes he acquires bump up their powers by an unknown amount. I see them as sort of stat enhancers. Whereas the Greek weapons gave him amazing powers and increased Kratos' destructive capabilities, the runes boosted his overall power and greatly enhanced a couple of weapons.

      Because the gods that Kratos killed , were the primordial gods that's shaped the foundation of the world, with they're offspring maintaining a balance of chaos and peace threw war in the world, whereas evidence of Thor's belly and Odin's age, they're realm has seen a inbalance of peace threw Odin being so insecure about his future that he eliminated most huge threats.

      Gameplay. GoW 1-3/spinoffs had more room and agility and were (seemingly) more intense and fast paced because of this. New god of war wants a different scope of play compared to old god of war and it happens to be tighter and smaller -- the fact you cant jump by yourself is proof of this. Few people grasp that gameplay does not reflect the narrative power of anyone in the game. Were that the case, You'd one-shot a majority of enemies that aren't minibosses, slashing straight through drauger and bandits with a single cleave and at most taking an extra swing against the bigger guys or a few more against mini bosses.

      Gameplay and temperament. Though we see the God of War in rare moments, Kratos has overall mastered his rage. Turning it from a blaze that sends him into a berserking twister of rage and destruction into a cold and disciplined fury shows how much he has grown as a person since he doesn't want his son to see the monstrous side of him and he has matured into a mindset that dismisses the young and arrogant demeanor he once had into a cool, calm and collected wise old veteran of war who wishes for a quiet life. He hasn't lost any strength, he had in fact grown even more powerful since his razing of Olympus to the ground. He just wishes to use it differently now with a great deal of restraint. After all he didn't start smacking Baldur around until the third or fourth hit, something a younger Kratos wouldn't even allow in the first place without a thorough dismemberment after catching the first hit.

      If they do, I wonder how would they portray the Egyptian pantheon. God of War Ragnarok is set many centuries after God of War 3 ended. We are well beyond the Heroic Age that the previous games were inspired by. Egypt would no longer be "Ancient Egypt". I'd figure it would be more like Ptolemaic Egypt or Provincial Egypt, where Egypt would have been Hellenised by the Greeks and Romans. However, because Kratos has altered the course of history by destroying Greece, Egypt probably wouldn't have these Hellenic influences in this universe.

    I think the main take away from this isn't necessarily that the homeland died so his powers went with them. I think it's more symbolic of of his sacrifice in God of War 3. When he finally kills Zeus he is brought to the brink of death, in his now apocalyptic homeland he decided to release the hope he got from opening pandora's box by trying to kill himself.
    For context, In God of War 1 he opened the box as a means to gain the power to kill a god to get vengeance on Ares and he was aided by many of the gods to do so including Zeus. However the box didn't just contain hope (the power to kill a god) but also contained all the evils of Sparta. We call this version of Kratos, Hope Kratos. Whilst many of the gods were already cruel the box only made it way worse. So when Kratos stabs himself with the Sword of Olympus he releases hope back into the world, possibly saving all of Sparta's mortals when the apocalypse eventually ceases and humanity rebuilds. However Kratos survived because even after bringing about the end of Sparta and the Olympians, he still served a purpose in his destiny. I theorize he lost his old powers because it was tied to the hope he held onto. Whilst he still has hope for a better future for himself and his son he no longer contains the raw power of it, the flames of hope no longer burn. Now it's more so a metaphor. There's even a chance he still contains the flames hope but he can't tap back into it due to his traumatic past. Ragnarok is all about coming to terms with your destiny and letting go, moving on. There's a small chance he could have that power reignited once he's worshiped once again as a loving god, not a destroyer.
    Kratos may have been the God of War but now he's the God of Inspiration.

    • @babrad
      @babrad ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Pandora's box contained the evils after the terrible war between gods and titans, the titanomachy.
      Athena feared how the world would turn if the box was ever opened, so she sealed inside the most powerful weapon, Hope.
      Everyone believed that in GoW1 Kratos drew his god power from the evils of the box to match Ares, but instead he drew the power of Hope, hoping to redeem himself and get rid of his nightmares.
      Then the evils of the box were spread among the gods, making them horrible. Before that only Ares troubled the mortals due to his quest for ruling Olympus. (You can check which god was affected by each individual evil/sin in Pandora's box gow Wikia page)

    in the next game i want kratos and freya to go to whatever was left of Olympus to see if theres anything left to get from there or if they were looking for smth and when they arrive he figures out that Olympus has been rebuilt and its because a god survived that whole apocalypses (idk maybe some unknown god who lived there but wasn't reveled to be a god at first, kinda like loki where he didnt know he was a god at first) and that god stays at and rules it kinda like zeus did but when he finds out kratos is still alive, he wants to get revenge for destroying Olympus the first time and also so he becomes the new god of war

Like being able to throw lightning, summon typhoons or souls of the damned from GoW1. Or rage of the titans or Atlas’s fury from GoW2.

      No and no, the blade of Olympus lost it's power when kratos stab himself at the end of GoW 3 to release the power of Hope to the world of greece he put to chaos and ruin, soo it would be pointless to carry a huge sword that has lost his power and you can't simple carry it like nothing has it fibe for that game to get a lot of weapons on an endless inventory while here is better and more balanced 4 weapons is more then enough to do everything.
