That isn't what he is hinting at at all. The reason he remembers Kratos is because he spent a lot of time with the giants and Kratos was a big part of their prophesy.
@@Deadman1000 I highly dislike that part the devs added because how could Kratos NOT know a god-like being visited. I mean in order for Tyr to know Kratos he would have had to have been around while Kratos was murdering his way through the pantheon, but in order for him to find his way onto pottery he would have had to have been there much longer and actually have done something noteworthy for the people to put his image to art. And if he was around while Kratos was doing all that that would be pretty fucking hard to forget. I like my explanation better because him only vaguely recalling the name makes sense if he learned it from the giants.

Because that is when he would have had to have gone. @@NoelleRL Not really, your ability to live long does not speak for your ability to endure traumatic moments. All it does is offer the capability to process trauma and ptsd for a longer amount of time. The reason why Tyr is the way he is, is because he had time to reflect and meditate on himself. He found a form of peace within himself with the time given to him in imprisonment.
While I am glad that Tyr was alive and survived ragnarok, I am disappointed that he didn't play a bigger role in god of war ragnarok, and even more disappointed that he was only available after everything was said and done. Atreus didn't even get a chance to meet the real Tyr, which is the biggest disappointment of all.
I like it for the best. Odin being a manipulator and brok calling all that bullshit is nice. I would kinda prefer the real tyr be dead. After all I have no clue why Odin didn’t kill him but there’s probably a good reason.
Maybe it had to do with the plot line being "You can't blindly following prophecy" and the subtle notion from the Norn's word regard how fate actually is the culmination of people's action. That's why after Odin imprison Tyr, and yet still can't stop Ragnarok. Since the symbol of Tyr probably didn't mean Tyr but the god of war.
They will meet in the future for sure. Loki and Tyr are both gods, they don't age, they have the time :) As for us, I am sure more games will come, and we will get more of Tyr there. He went to all Pantheons so he will probably be something of a guide in the future.
One little touch I like about the real Týr vs. Odin's Tyr is that when OT was rescued he was worried what Odin would do to him when Týr was rescued he is worried what Odin might do to those who rescued him. He cares more for others then himself which shows why he was so loved.
Could be setting up for next game? Tyr is the only person besides Kratos to have been in different lands and since Atreus is presumably leaving the Norse world to find the lost giants, Tyr could act as his guide since wherever Atreus goes, Tyr has already been there before

He breathes calm and secure. Super fascinating that this is optional post-game content. For real, and I hope that if they make a series following Artreus in the future, Tyr will be a bigger part of the narrative so Loki can get to know him better
it's because Odin is cunning, wise, and smart of course he'll definitely find a way to capture Tyr real quick without being easily outsmarted by Kratos and Atreus team.
It seems time has mellowed out both Gods of War. They both now impart wisdom and have earned the respect of those around them, especially for Kratos to come as far as he did. I just hope he can now live in peace as long as no surviving Greek Gods or Atlas come to settle things.
Something that really struck me is when you first meet the real Tyr his first requests are the opposite of what Odin--playing the role of Tyr--requested. Odin-Tyr requested food and wanted to be somewhere cramped (referring to the broom closet, feigning that he would feel more comfortable in someplace like a cell). Real Tyr immediately asked to "have some space," instead, and even refused Freya's offer of food and shelter. Thought that was an interesting detail.
The roles are reversed Odin's Tyr goes "what trickery is this Odin" and worries what might happen to him if Odin catches him. "It's better if I stay inside the cell" This time its Kratos that asks if its an illusion. Tyr worries not for himself, but what might happen to Kratos, Mimir, and Freya if Odin finds out.
I don’t know if anyone noted it yet, but the “ceremonial dagger” that Kratos picks up is a phurpa, which is a Tibetan Bon ritual instrument (before Buddhism). Tyr is also practicing Qigong.
Instead of using knowledge and power to control other people like Odin, Tyr used his knowledge and power to travel to other realms, learn their ways and make allies and friends. His peaceful nature echoes throughout the realms, and it forces people to solve problems, work hard to find solutions, even if they're irritating puzzles. Peace is worth the trouble.
On one hand I’m surprised in a good way at how chill Tyr is. On another, I’m now incredibly curious how powerful Tyr is when he actual decides to fight
To be honest, this is a better redemption for him than what i thought would happen. I thought he would help to bring Ragnarok and probably die. But he was a prisoner for who knows how long. And he needed to be free. To be at peace with everything that happened. Finding him around the maps, and seeing how wise he is, no wonder people loved him so much.

I honestly thought the real Tyr would be the main plot for a DLC. Finding where he is and his reaction to everything, perhaps fixing his temple and bridge and revealing it can be used to travel to other Pantheons outside of the Norse one incredibly easily. He could also have become another companion and perhaps looked after the Realms while Kratos is gone adventuring (ie a future God of War game)
I honestly would like it if they didn't do another series. The Norse saga and Greek saga complement each other. If he went too other pantheons too kill them itd just destroy the character development he gained in this series.
@@BlackHippy313 they can do another game without him killing a pantheon, he didn't really even do that in this game. its one thing to slaughter gods or people that didn't do anything wrong, its another thing entirely when they deserve it or ask for it by picking a fight with kratos. every god or nearly every god in the original games plus these ones either deserved it or picked a fight with kratos, i think few, if any, were innocent. i think if gods commit the same crimes you would kill a mortal for, they should be killed to. i think kratos going to a new pantheon could be a chance for even more character developement, just like this world was. they could retire kratos but it would likely kill the franchise. Atreus is not enough to carry the franchise by himself, at least imo. not to mention they can't call it god of war without kratos, it wouldnt make sense.
Surtur and Tyr are so chill, it's chilling. Kratos is calm, reasonable and much more passive than his previous self. Atries is past his rebellious phase, now growing as 'Loki from Jortur". Freya has calmed down, out of her phase for vengeance for Baldur. Ragnarok was one big therapy session for our protagonists. It is like, Greece pantheon was fraught with 'Evil' God's which made Kratos and Demios (Briefly) Angry and rebellious. The Norse, in comparison, is far more sagacious; not 'Evil'. They have their own Garden(metaphor), which makes them worthy of being an adverse for our set of lunatics. Regardless, they are not 'Evil', they seem merely ungratified, flawed beings with impeccable intentions. The Egyptian saga, if it follows the trend set by GOW Series, will feature a lot of polity of Gods as a race above man. Kratos dying after such development by hands of Egyptian pantheon will make him the true God of War. War ends in civilization.

Love how Kratos finally has a friend, a real friend, in Freya. p.s. convo at 4:40 puts into perspective just how far Odin went in trying to make Tyr look worse out of just silly hatred. He played him as broken peace-loving idiot, while real Tyr is more of warrior poet than anything.
Kratos himself calling Mimir "brother" back, plus multiple instances of them bonding through complementing each other's wise advices and meaningful conversation. Unquestionably Mimir's friendship takes the "OG real friend" title, by far. Freya didn't even came second in this category, since Brok and his brother both made Kratos and Atreus feel part of their family. That's real friendship. Then Freya eventually earned that spot. My point being, Kratos character development was so masterly crafted through both games that people tend to recall how seemingly easy was for Kratos to disregard any kind of, his, and other people's emotion displays, yet tend to forget why any of the characters loyally and often unconditionally following him as their leader see it as worthy, and not because they would get something in return but because those ARE real friends.
@@Brain.Washington Probably should elaborate a bit: I more meant it in a sense of "a friend who is also a warrior and who can just go out and fight dragons with him". Even if you could swing that thing as quickly as a rapier the design is objectively non-utilitarian. A similarly sized short sword like a Gladius would work better. And again a spear is better than either one because it's longer.
I like to think that Tyr is the kind of God of War Kratos will gradually become as he continues to mature. Wise, calm... Still insanely powerful and fearsome in battle. But peaceful in nature. One who fights for peace, and does not seek or encourage conflict. Not a destroyer, but a warrior.

Notice how the subtitles include the line over the y in Tyr’s name when it’s actually him, but throughout the story when it’s Odin, the subtitles call him Tyr (no line over the y) Subtle details like this are easily missed and it’s super cool to me

No, you cant. Odin prolly uses the same magic to bind Freya. But this time, to imprison Tyr. This magic can only be undone by the death of Odin and the destruction of Asgard.
It would be way smother to the point of becoming boring If it wasn't for Odin messing with Atreus' mind both him and Kratos would never develop and learn from each other
1:37 Tyr says Kratos I know you from somewhere , I'm sure it will come back to me, kratos: until denn, I never thought tyr means he see him in Valhalla
Watching someone play the game and listening to what Tyr says really was subtle hints, so keen on not having war on Asgard, trying to instigate Kratos and Atreus, him trying to make Atreus doubt their choices
They treat Tyr with too much kid gloves imo. I can't believe all the extra encounters with him are the same "Short sentence. Now if you'll leave me in peace." Freya "Of course"
3:40 That dagger is the Phurba knife from Tibetan Buddhism. In Tibetan culture and Vajrayana Buddhism, the Phurba knife is said to be a weapon that wards off evil spirits and was used in many rituals and ceremonies.
I kinda figured that was the case, it was way too easy for Kratos and Artreus to find Tyr in the beginning. Not to mention Odin didn’t intervene he wanted to manipulate Artreus that was the goal
Yeah, it felt too easy to find Tyr. I remember reading Norse Mythology that Odin can disguise himself as a mortal so no one can recognize him. But I had no idea the game can actually depict Odin as a shapeshifter.
Yeah didn't make sense to imprison him in svartaflheim away from the strength of asgard, makes sense they'd keep him in asgard since odin made it nigh on impossible to travel there
Between this extra dialog from Tyr and the constant hints of other mythology, im starting to wonder if this series continues that the other pantheons are going to think Kratos is a threat to them. He's killed Zeus and Odin. Sure, Odin was in self-defense arguably, but the rest of the world might not care. I think the other pantheons are going to try and kill Kratos,
I swear bro I was thinking the same exact thing. Because what reason would Kratos have to travel to other realms? I’m sure he loves the home and friends he’s built here in the Norse mythos, I was thinking that word would spread to others of Odin’s death but not know the circumstances behind it and assume kratos is just killing gods for no reason and will continue to do so and that the other pantheons may band together to in order to kill him before he kills them, so to speak.
Wait so the tyr Odin pretended to be as the exact same character is the real tyr, idk for someone to travel so far and go against he's father. He seems rather passive, not broken.
The broken bit was Odin trying to cover his ass if he slipped up by making it seem like Tyr wasn’t all there, mentally unsound despite his best efforts, to make it seem like he was just kooky from the imprisonment
Odin acted the way he did as Tyr so his intent wouldn’t be questioned, Mimir said that. Tyr, as the god of war, may’ve seen many prisoners of Odin’s wars break and had time to collect their coping mechanisms. He’s also seen other cultures’ practices. Another commenter mentions him practicing tai chi. Odin, pretending to be Tyr, says that Odin tortured him in prison; but when Odin is mentioned as an abusive father, it was to bleed use out of Thor. In this video, the characters say Odin had no more uses for Tyr except to keep him alive for magic. Tyr is still shocked, staying alone until he accepts his new life, but we don’t know his real prison experience and he has no big reason to care about Kratos. Odin played a big part because that was his goal.

It's crazy to think so much time passed with Tyr being imprisoned. He remembered Kratos' name but forgot he was the one who destroyed Olympus.
That isn't what he is hinting at at all. The reason he remembers Kratos is because he spent a lot of time with the giants and Kratos was a big part of their prophesy.
@@ShiningDarknes what do you mean? Tyr went to Greece and knew the stories of Kratos. He even saw the jar with him on it.
@@Deadman1000 I highly dislike that part the devs added because how could Kratos NOT know a god-like being visited. And if he was around while Kratos was doing all that that would be pretty fucking hard to forget.

Because that is when he would have had to have gone. It would have had to have been after the first game but before the second since the second is where things start going to shit so you would think it would leave a bigger impression if that is when he visited.

Real Tyr immediately asked to "have some space," instead, and even refused Freya's offer of food and shelter. Thought that was an interesting detail.
The roles are reversed
Odin's Tyr goes "what trickery is this Odin" and worries what might happen to him if Odin catches him. "It's better if I stay inside the cell"
This time its Kratos that asks if its an illusion. Tyr worries not for himself, but what might happen to Kratos, Mimir, and Freya if Odin finds out.
Ironically if you're being starved and you get offered food suddenly that can kill you

Wait till you hear about apophis the Egyptian eater of the sun
Odin can't imitate everything. After re watching all the vid a couple time, I saw that Odin had a lot of slip up when disguise as Tyr. But since all of them (including us) never know what Tyr actually like. So we really had no idea that it's Odin.
@@goen5601 bruh mimir and Freya personally knew the real tyr .they were shocked because they thought he was dead. But accepted tyr's existence because of the prophecies related to Asgard.
@@exohaji-473 How well they know Tyr? Not damn well enough. And there are many occurrence that Odin in Tyr's form slip up. If they know Tyr that well, they should spot it!!
Týr is exactly what I'd imagine a warrior on a garden to be like
Tyr is finally not shedding a tear

"A younger jormie, fresh from jotunheim" and "Perhaps they met in Jotunheim", I really hope they are referring to that moment atreus gave a giant soul to a serpent in the game, that would actually be mind blowing, there's just no way it can be a coincidence.
Yes they are. The young snake fought Thor at Ragnarok and went to the past.
It's not a coincidence, apparently that little serpent really is a young Jörmungandr
that snake is indeed young Jörmungandr, why would they even put that snake then if it's not for the plot (:
They did it right. Atreus never told anyone what he did in Ironwood. It makes sense for none of them know where Atreus and the Snake met. They only could speculate the location where it made sense the most to meet a giant.
@@KKKuma they figured it out on there own there’s only 1 time Atreus met a snake in jotunheim which could only be the moment he put the soul of giant into the snake
Ragnarok: **happens**
tyr: *yoga is my life*
I feel like Tyr will have more to do in the next game, since he's also apparently been to japan and egypt. Perhaps, kratos will go to egypt since it's closer to greece and he's found his inner peace.
Who says tyr has been in japan and Egypt?
@@pyramidhead333alex in the legends ingame i believe
@@pyramidhead333alex Tyrs temple has treasure from all over the world's Pantheons
He was in Egypt when he was looking for peace, in the comics he met an old sage who asked him to help fight giant monsters

Freya just casually making sure the body's dead with an extra arrow despite being bisected lmao
I did this mission just yesterday, and when I found him, I immediately thought this had to be a trick. But I grew to like tyr the more I explored and found him in random places.
Little did we know he would skibidi into valhalla
I wanna see kratos vs the gods of Egypt next that would be dope. Plus imagine the wild ass puzzles we could get to solve inside a pyramid or under the sphinx or something
Be fun to see the GoW interpretations of Horus and Anubus.
One distinct difference between Odin's imitation of Tyr and Tyr himself is the fact that the real Tyr would've actually fought in Ràgnarok...just wish I could've seen it man!😂🔥
Since Tyr is still alive there's still the possibility of the ending where Kratos, Tyr, and another god of war become the three wise men
I wish we can have a secret boss fight with him. It is quite easy to make it happen like He want to test his skill after so long in the prison, and after he lost he just said I must train better or something.
Literal God of War but the chillest of them all.
I’m really hoping that in the next GOW, Kratos has Tyr to travel the different lands together, seeing old gods, fighting alongside each other. It would be freaking epic.
Better not. I guess at sometime they would have differences which may lead to a battle between both that could shatter reality itself.
tyr is built exceptionally different. he's been imprisoned for so long, is freed and then immediately asks for space to think and reflect.
for a god of war he is really chill
Traveling the world does that to people
Honestly, I would love to just sit down with Tyr at a bar and just talk about life. He seems like such a chill guy to speak too
Tyr, to me is like a mixture of Jesus from The Walking Dead and Rhaegar Targaryen from Game of Thrones. Basically the kind of person you could invite to all of the family cookouts
I've been watching you for 4 years, it's great to year you've been doing better since then! Hope the best for you man
"You can come to our home in the realm between realms."
Sindri: "Oh hell no. Not this all over again."
With so little content with the actual Tyr, I suspect that he was added at the last moment.
But in the end, I'm just glad they decided to add him at all - it's really to see and finally meet him :)
ya it felt shoed in. Side quests is definitely the weakest link in these games. took me an hour just to backtrack to a stupid draugr hole. Regretted every single minute. Worse part, is it was like 10 feet away, but you have to climb and shimmy across the whole damn island just to go up a single cliff.
Bro just became a meditating monk😂
3:35 That dagger looks like the one from uncharted 2, the "golden passport"
Fr I was just about to say that 😂
Imagine how badly Odin impersonated Tyr, when compared to the real one we meet at the end? Tyr is so wise, so uplifting with his words, knew exactly what to tell Mimir to at least a little bit lower his pain about the whale creature, he was paying his respects to his dead comarades. What Odin as Tyr did all the time is brood and put everyone's ideas and plans down.
I love how he’s just a genuinely chill dude
