Her immortal brother Ali Akbar Khan has "king of melody" written on his gravestone in USA. I honor and adore his performances, and heard him in a live performance in California when I was 17. His deep dedication to music kept him playing and residing in my homeland of America almost his whole life. We are so blessed. Annapurna plays so beautifully.

Pt. Ravishankar and sometimes Pt. N Banerjee stumble somewhere, but, Maa Annapurna Devi has been flawless. We would never hear anywhere any error in her musical notes!!!

May Annapurna Devi rest in peace. She left us during Navratri to go on to her next destination. We pray to thank her for her inspiration upon us. October 13, 2018 early morning hours she breathed her last.
this was great' a real OCEAN of music. it was almost like a DHRUPAD in exposition, except, perhaps for the very fast tans at the end. I could listen again and again to this.

hello maybe the 50s. Wanted to let you know that by accounts of her disciples including Pt Nikhil Banerjee and Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasiya and others, she was an incomparable player of Surbahar surpassing even her husband Pt Ravi Shankar. Her playing came closest to her father Baba Alauiddin Khan. In 1956/57 she took a vow never to perform in public or indeed, in front of anyone. There are virtually no known recordings of her performances. Only a handful of people beyond her disciples and her second husband ever heard her play. While the quality of recording is poor, this is the closest we will ever come to hearing her play. We are fortunate to have these 2 recordings to listen to in 2024!
