this is a true gem. This recording. There will be a day when the humanity wont exist but Annapurna devi's divine Kaunsi Kanada will be there, alive on web... It will resonate with nature..😭😭😭
Tonight having listned ma Annapurna and I honestly submit my feeling of pleasure without bounds. The best ever joy I have from classical renditions over more than five decades. A goddes indeed.
This rendition is of Kaushi Kanada, without any doubt from the chalan. Interesting point is that Nikhilda's immortal 1966 rendition, available in youtube, has an uncanny resemblance with this in the same melancholic tenets. Only difference is Srimati's left hand movement over the strings of surbahar, it goes even deeper.
The uncanny resemblance can be for a few reasons, namely that firstly, Pt Nikhil Banerjee is of the same gharana; secondly, he would rarely deviate (and also the least) from the way the ragas were taught by Baba Allauddin Khan to suit public performances; and lastly, he was Lt. Smt. Annapurna Devi's student as well.
We are happy till this day when such depth in rendition of Surbahar penetrative to heart with joyous pains..It a gift to all Classical lovers forever. She is our pride.
I thank you all for your valuable comment and suggestion regarding alleged Malkaus of Srimati Annapurna. I received this recording from a knowledgeable person, stating that is a rare piece of Srimati Annapurna. As this confusion developed it is better to take it out. Mr. Sanyal was a pioneer in recording classical music in Kolkata. Nineteen fifty onwards he recorded many great musicians in private program and music conferences. Sarbari Babu knew him very well

I am not sure if this is Kaushi Kanada. I don't find the sequence sa ga ma dha pa or sa ga ma dha ni pa ma. To me, it appears to be Bhimpalasi. Will some expert please check?
Madhyam or Ma is vaadi note of Kaushi Kanada. If you take this 'Ma' as 'Sa' or the main drone so it will turn Bhimpalasi. The chalan of Kaushi Kanada is S g M d P M , which , in Bhimapalasi scale will sound P n S g R s. The chalans are alomost same and sounds equal , except the scale. I think , in this outstanding track you somehow took Ma as the main scale and the whole performance appeared Bhimpalasi to you. Subahar, being a low-scaled instrument has its main string or Ma which is Sa for Sitar and others. This is the fact. A matter of murcchana !
Please stop bringing mention of Pandit Ravi Shankar with Maa. In terms of skill and musical expressions, it will take Ravi ji 10 lives to come anywhere near Maa. He was pretty much there but, in his quest for fame he squandered it all. Maa lived with Indian music, and Indian music will survive because of her.

Maa Annapoorna Devi...The daughter of the Legendary Ustad...Really a great feeling....a Feast of real Indian Music.
Her nuances are on another level. I never heard a musician play surbahar the way Annapurna Devi played. Unreal.

Devi Saraswati with Sur Bahar.
Thank you for sharing this treasure
Ethereal and so deep. I can see her influence on Pt Nikhil Bannerjee
Showers of nectar or is it the conversation of Goddesses ? Thank you Maa for taking us to another world ! Pranam & May God truly bless you Maa!
Really absorbing. Her world of music is totally different from others.

@@AnujGupta-ro9xc How many students did she accept? Was Nikhil the only one?
@@jamesaron1967 No, she had a host of them. The Annapurna Devi Foundation website provides a long list.
