    Sometimes the job isn't done perfect but you use what you have to work with and the results are the same. A lot of people can't afford to take it to a shop. And after it's done you can look back at the video and see how you would have done things a little different. Good job.

      yep, and I remade that video since first one didnt show enough according to some viewers

    I was looking for a video of someone doing this job without a press. Thank you! And to your final comment- my grandfather always told me " It ain't rocket science, well, unless it's rocket science."

      and even if it's rocket science, just take it one step at a time and do it.

    Nice job on showing every step, every tool, every struggle. The heat and ice trick is very east to do with any inner bearing you do..

    Thank you man I really appreciate you making this video. Other videos make out like taking it to a shop and having it pressed in for 50 to 400 dollars is doing it yourself.

    • @Nordic_Mechanic

      yep I usually do it with a press but back when I was in high school I had to do it on the cheap like this.

    You can just set parking brake and put it in neutral so you can turn driveshaft . also mark ujoint locations so it is clocked back correctly. Push it off with a air chisel

    Why not anti-seize on the bearing race?

    • @Nordic_Mechanic
      @Nordic_Mechanic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a interference fit once it cools down, the race contracts on the shaft. It is not something antiseize is meant for, or good at.

    • @orisisseibert3507
      @orisisseibert3507 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nordic_Mechanic I guess I still do not understand, as that is what I would use on head bolts. Would not the results be the same?

    • @Nordic_Mechanic
      @Nordic_Mechanic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@orisisseibert3507 When you put it on a bolt it stays in the clearance of the threads. Press fit piecea have no space between them. Antiseize would be spat out entirely.

    • @orisisseibert3507

      @@Nordic_Mechanic thank you. Isn't grease thicker than anti-seize?

    • @Nordic_Mechanic
      @Nordic_Mechanic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@orisisseibert3507 Depends on the grease and antiseize. Im using a grease for the install only here, while the parts are at different temperature. Once the parts reach same temperature, it doesnt do anything and it`s pushed out by the contracting bearing and expanding shaft.

  • @randyjoubert601
    @randyjoubert601 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does the heat make it go on easier

    • @Nordic_Mechanic
      @Nordic_Mechanic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, it's called thermal dilatation. the heat makes the part larger and makes the tolerance higher between shaft and bearing so it slips on. Otherwise, you would need a press to install it. This is a no press, home style version

    • @randyjoubert601
      @randyjoubert601 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Never mind the cut shaft from the grinder.....

    • @Nordic_Mechanic
      @Nordic_Mechanic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Then cut 0.2mm less. this shaft has close to half a million on the clock. A rear ujoint ears have been damaged for 200 000 so there's no loss ever if I cut all the way through. So forgive me for not treating it like a ultra expensive item . It's still on the truck

    what the hell is that green box off the compressor? I did not have my saftey glasses on when I watched this video and I got a spark in my eye. I will sue!

    • @Nordic_Mechanic
      @Nordic_Mechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a refrigerated air drying unit. It's basically a 100% duty cycle a/c unit which lowers the dew point of the compressed air until all the moisture condense. Then it evacuates the water, and bring the air back to correct temperature . It autodrains all that water out so your air is extremely dry and clean and doesnt damages anything.

    • @GhettoWagon
      @GhettoWagon 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So it actually has refrigerant inside of it? A cooled condenser? Nice. Apparently air tools don't last here in a shop with all the moisture. SO many places have the air compressor OUTSIDE under a shach sucking in the crap humid feed air.

    • @Nordic_Mechanic
      @Nordic_Mechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes it's got a big ac compressor with refrigerant in it. It's very humid here as well and this dryer makes the powercoat stick a lot better.

      @@brandongouge It's a thumper , turns super slow at 10hp like this. It's quieter in person, the camera raises the pitch a lot and make it seem louder. I've got a few of those in friend's shop and garage. They are great. Still have 2 more left to build and sell.
