    I found mine at a local PTA thrift shop in like new condition in a box full of book bags I always check out. Paid $12.00 for it and had to listen to my wife ask why I need another bag all the way home . When I showed her what they were going for online she gave me a "well done." High praise indeed considering the source!

    Excellent review! I have one of these since at least 5 years, and it's still in great condition, even after use in military condition. Very durable and versatile bag! Nothing fancy in it but job is done without any kind of failure even after all these years of use and abuse.

    I own both complete sets of filbe and ilbe and I have to say the filbe assault pack is definitely the way to go. It's my main bushcraft bag. It's a beast. I have two sustainment pouches on both sides of my filbe and also have the assault pouch attached to the front. On some outings I even attach the filbe hydration pack onto the outside of the assault pack. I absolutely love it. With the attachment of the hydration pouches on the side it creates a place to slip a small axe or other gear.

    I love having the variety, I like having packs with tons an tons of pockets all over and I also like very simple packs like this, one or two pockets, just depends in the moment of what kind of backpacking or hiking trip I want, that also goes for weight, I like going very heavy, to nothing very light weight to nothing at all. -Jake

    I would like to see a shootout between the ARMY Improved Combat Shelter Vs. the USMC Hunker 1 tent from mountain hardware. I thought this was one of your best videos yet (I specifically liked the way you gave the weight and dimensions of the pack, and I like the way you showcased it by displaying it on those branches I would stick with that format) . I am also a military surplus collector. Although, I do not have this specific piece yet. Love the videos! Thanks!
    By the way everyone love Army Vs. Marine Corps. when it comes to gear, just wanted to suggest that as a theme, for certain episodes of Military Surplus Wednesday. Keep the videos comin' they entertain me at work!

    I was lucky enough to use the ALICE packs in MCRD San Diego/Pendleton, ILBE in Iraq, FILBE in Afghanistan. I have the ILBE system in the garage that I use for camping now. I do miss the FILBE era bivy, with the mosquito screen! Something about sleeping on the ground, watching stars, and evading bugs.

    Ive got one as a car GHB. i also have an Everyday Hydration pack on the molle panel. I can put my ilbe hydration pack in it. Easier to get out than inside the pack. Also have 2 sustainment pouches on side for other gear including, thanks to TOGR, 64 oz Kleen Kanteen. Only draw back is that the pack does absorb sweat from my back but its a minor thing. Overall well worth it. I also got a great shape pack cheap at the time on ebay

    The back of the pack was designed flat to be specifically worn over body armor for vehicle born operations. most of us devils used them for MRE's, spare ammo and "accessories". still have mine and use it as a range bag. but for overnighters i prefer the Army molle 2 assault pack.

  • @larrykramer6057
    @larrykramer6057 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe sometime you could review an external frame pack because that is what I prefer. Probably you would have to get a used one as I don't know if anyone makes one anymore. Mine is a Kelty Super Tioga that they stopped making in 2006. It is still as good as new and doesn't feel like you are carrying a hot bag on your back. It was purchased for $30 at an estate sale from people who thought that backpacks are for school books.

    I have an old well-used ILBE 3-Day Assault Pack with a damaged main zipper. I've been trying to find a replacement zipper I can have sewn on, but for the life of me I can't find the nomenclature for it. I've purchased several replacement pull kits, but the largest size pull they had was for #10, and I'm sure the zipper on the ILBE is much bigger than that. I'd prefer to replace the whole zipper if possible, and it appears to be a coil zipper but I can't figure out which one. Also, most of the zippers for sale on Ebay are black. Is there a YKK zipper that's at least close? Seems to be 28" and it's a 2-way coil zipper.

    One other side note, in a previous video, I heard you refer to FILBE as "Fancy" Improved Load Bearing Equipment. Fancy? Really Luke? (Just kidding) The correct acronym is Family of Improved Load Bearing Equipment and the "Family" part is because it is designed to work with previous generations of MOLLE gear, such as the MOLLE, MOLLE II, or the ILBE "Families" of gear. With the correct adapters, you can even attach ALICE gear to it. Also, the gen 4 MOLLE II Rucksack usually has the old school ALICE style webbing added on in certain places, to more easily facilitate fastening without the need for "MALICE" adapters (I just learned this recently when I got one). Also: FYI you may often notice on some packs, there is space between the pocket, and the body of the pack, to insert or mount additional items (for example the large outer pockets on the Medium and Large ALICE Pack), this is known as a "Tunnel" or "Tunneling". The PAL system (Pocket and Ladder-Attachment System), which is employed in all MOLLE gear, is often designed to created this effect. Note: not all fasten-able (MOLLE/PALS) pockets have this feature, but it's best represented by the MOLLE Sustainment pouch, and I believe also, the 200rd SAW/Large utility pouch. Hope the length of this comment did not casue you to skip it, and hope I helped any viewers who may be interested in this information. Again, thanks for the videos!

      @Isomatte I had the same misconception for wearing backpacks, 'high is good, low is bad.' I agree with your thoughts.
      I got FILBE and MOLLE2 assault packs with wide and thin shoulder straps. Super comfortable.

    • @militarygearjunkie2522
      @militarygearjunkie2522 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Isomatte Both are comfortable packs but I prefer FILBE. I like the organization and modular design of it. I added battle belt on the waist belt now I can transfer the weight onto my hips. It's even more comfortable with heavier loads. You should try it, too. 👍

      He meant for the Charlie pack made by arcteryx which is incredibly hard to get hands on as they wasn’t out for long there’s not much of a difference apart from material if I’m correct the Charlie came in coyote woodland and multicam whilst the Charlie was made and designed by arcteryx the ilbe assault pack was only designed by arcteryx so the Charlie is stupidly rare that’s why the price is so crazy as they didn’t make them for long
