    The metal piece above the Shoulder strap buckles on both sides is for strapping the Shoulder strap into if the buckles break.

    Nice pack. But above all else I wanted to commend you on tge really well done video. Not many people go out of their way to film and edit videos this well, and I think you did a great job of showing the pack as well as talking clearly. Thanks for the extra effort!

    The pockets on the back is more to actually undo the quick release buckles on the pack and run through the shoulder straps into them to keep from flopping all around while the assault pack is attached to the top of the main ruck

      TheOutdoorGearReview Would this be comparable to 5.11 Rush 72 Backpack? I’m looking for a FILBE 3 Day Pack, around 40-50L capacity. Want to use it as a Carry On for flying on airlines. Thanks. I appreciate your videos

    I have the USMC assault pack that I bought used off eBay along with the full sized backpack. The version of assault pack you've reviewed here has some very nice features that mine doesn't have; like the extra pouch for the front and the webbed pouch inside the main compartment opening. Also the one you reviewed here has the rubberized heavy-duty zipper, mine simply has a rain flap covering the zipper. I love using military surplus, it is my go-to gear whether the MSS for sleeping or either pack, depending on my load-out and outdoor requirements. I've been restructuring my assault pack to hold everything I'd need to survive with the goal of keeping it in my Jeep at all times, yet be the most compact unit possible. I've recently added heavy-duty nylon straps through the bottom of the pack to attach my -30 degree sleeping bag. I enjoy watching your review of gear, and look forward to more episodes. Well done my friend and much success with your store.

    There is 3 on eBay now. Two buy it nows for around $150 and one auction for less than a hundred.
    Good luck. It's a great bag. I've got over 60 miles of wear with mine so far.

    Man I cussed the hell out of the Molle gear when we got issued that, cussed the filbe gear, too when we were issued it too, sitting here years after my service ended, and still cussing it but this time with a smile. Miss the Infantry.

    My only concern about these packs is the connection where the top shoulder straps meet the pack. I had one where the stitching is coming undone. To me it doesn’t seem to be heavy duty connection compared to other military packs

    If you have this pack, do yourself a favor and put FILBE sustainment pouches on the sides. Makes it into a true 72 hour pack at that point.

    Make sure you check to see if your USMC Packs need the Top Buckle and Quick Release Adapter modifications (search for "USMC Pack Modification" on TH-cam). I found out mine needed these modifications, but I cannot get Eagle Industries to respond to any of my phone calls or emails to their Customer Service.

    Luke, Can you attach the assault pack to the main filbe pack?

    • @TheOutdoorGearReview
      @TheOutdoorGearReview  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mikee You sure can but be warned it goes from a big pack to being a HUGE pack especially once your gear is loaded. Years ago I saw a video of some soldiers wearing the full set up loaded up and one of guys fell over and literally couldn't get to his feet.

    you struggle with the FILBE cuz you just say it ...."FILL BEE"

  • @Ficktao
    @Ficktao 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another potentially great pack ruined by holes in the bottom. Holes let in water, sand, ants, dirt, etc. This way you can't even put the bag on the ground without dirt and sand getting inside. Stupid design flaw.

    • @cattledog901
      @cattledog901 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Virtually ALL high end pack makers use grommets at the bottom for water drainage and for debris to fall out. Its not a "design flaw." Your pack is not some completely sealed weatherproof case. Water, dirt, bugs all get in regardless of if there are "holes at the bottom." Its hard use field gear not a school bag. If your worried about water or dirt put your valuables in a waterproof bag in the pack like every other smart person does, or just buy a waterproof pack instead of complaining. Seriously do some freaking research on pack design before spouting off like some "expert."

      It will drain after you put it back on and don't wear it upside down.

    • @isaachousley325
      @isaachousley325 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      its a USMC pack. We Marines are amphibious, meaning water will get into the pack. The holes mean that water will drain quickly, so our packs will only be heavier for minuets, instead of hours. not a design flaw, but a very import feature on a MILITARY pack
