I drove by Gone Marine the other day and seen a Whaler/ Mako. Maybe to expensive but nice for lakes and rivers. But bad for bays unless no wind/swells but they don't sink. Everybody were your life jackets. We loss two duck hunters. On kayaks in the river here.
I've fished out of a Boston Whaler for over forty years in the bay and ocean. My dad ran a 22' Montauk and it was pretty dry for an open boat. Lots fishing room but had to dress warm n rain gear. One of the safest boats out there. We used to run all the way to Pacifica and back into the beach for stripers in 4-8 ft water. Had some great days catching lots stripers n halibut n salmon doing this.
Another good report! Can you tell me what the difference is between the rope on a crab hoop and the rope on a pot. The commercial closure doesn't make sense. The whales are just as likely to get tangled in the hoops as they are the the pots.
I belive the commercial pots/traps can n r left over 24 hrs ... the hoops have to be checked within 24 hrs or the crabs climb out after eating the bait or grabbing what they can. Forces ppl to check their hoops every few hours compared to traps/pots left out in the ocean for day(s).
Yes you're right about what's on the end of the rope! These guys who make up these rules need to think about what they're doing. It's like they're trying to frustrate you so you don't want to mess with it n not go??? As long as their whales out there will be no commercial season. Seems like they don't care about people making a living.
Blue Fin? Yellow Tail? What other groups, chats, forums, or YT channels do you recommend for more info on Blue fin in NorCal? I thought these fish were out of this area until next summer again? Where is this intel coming from that people are still fishing these species this time of year? I don't think even the guides or charters are going out for BF anymore this year
Until the weather got bad there was guys doing well on yellow tail and albacore right out of Bodega Bay. Weather has put a stop to it as it's really rough out there. Were learning more n more about how many tuna our around this area thru the fall n winter.
No fishing now out of Santa Cruz now or Monterey I think. Please gives us updates as to that. I think you hinted. I see the boats boats crashing into each other. Wind and high tides?
Santa Cruz had some rough seas last week breaking part of the pier off. The pier is closed right now until they check it out. I've fished off that pier hundreds of time when I was younger. I have a cousin who lives there and I would spend the summer there fishing. That pier has been there for over seventy years.
Hogan was on the list to close last week. I've noticed that sometimes they say they're closed up but are still open. I would call the lake the day before to make sure they're open.
