      Yes, the problem was that I recorded this in the very hot spell we had and there was a fan on in the room - I didn't realise until ages later when I came to edit the video that there was this massive bakground hum. I've tried my best to clear it up in post but it's still not perfect

    Built this kit and absolutely LOVED it! I have spare decals because of it and it will allow me to do a turkish hurricane build. I am really not a fan of Interior detail as it takes way too long and I don't have the patience. None of the warping shown in this video was included in my kit, however I do acknowledge that different kits have differences in moulding and we are of course entirled to our own opinions.

    Today you should treat this as an entry level kit to give your kid and make with them as a first model to introduce them to the hobby. I think it's fine.
    If you want something better there are more expensive alternatives.

    the raised landing gear as just details on the wing also gives me the vibe of 50-60s kits as I remember seeing a lot of Testors rebox's of the old Hawk tooling had the same thing which seemed to be the fad at the time.

    I'm 90% sure that that second marking option isn't actually a RAF plane - it's a SAAF plane flown by Eric Robinson. If that's the case, not only the instructions are incorrect, but so are the decals. The red in the fin flash and roundels ought to be orange.

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you may be right! I know the Airfix version has something similar and it is SAAF

  • @captaincool3329
    @captaincool3329 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What's interesting is that I looked on Scalemates after this video and it suggests that the PM models Spitfire tooling is part of a long legacy dating back all the way to the first Frog Spitfire model released in 1939, meaning that it could ultimately be an 80+ year old tooling- I didn't even know plastic kits were being made before the war! That also means it's a good quarter of a century older than the Airfix Vintage Classics, which is equally why it looks so prehistoric, and why there could be historic value in putting one together, as I doubt there are many other kits with such a long pedigree.

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’m not sure how accurate the information on scalemates is that far back in time. I’m of the understanding the 1930s frog spitfire kit was made of wood, so not particularly related to the injection moulded versions

  • @jabonorte
    @jabonorte ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I bought the seaplane version 20+ years ago and threw it away as soon as I saw the massively short-shot floats, where one side was 10mm shorter than the other side of the float. Only really useful as an air rifle target

  • @mrjockt
    @mrjockt ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Bought a version of this kit back in the early nineties, back then it was just sold as a Vb, I was so unimpressed with the kit the only thing I used were the Turkish markings, I ended up using them on an Airfix Mk.Vb with a resin Vokes filter to produce a Turkish Air Force Spitfire.

    Hi Matt.. you mentioned the lack of parts count and dimensions on the box. There's no Difficulty/Skill Level either so a purchaser wouldn't know if it was suitable for their skill level in advance.
    Re the decals. I know some like Cartograf mark numbers for decals. If PM did that at least it draws your attention to 'something' being there. I hadn't noticed the white ones until you said.
    No undercarriage bays as you mentioned, but could you create them by carefully following the raised detail on the wing with a knife? I think that would be better than nothing.
    This whole kit reminds me of the quality of kits I made in the 70s - guns moulded on, no cockpit, only a one-piece closed canopy etc. I'd advise a new modeller to spend a bit more and get an Airfix Starter Set, especially as those include glue, paints, and a brush.

  • @deaks25

    When it comes to kits with literally no cockpit, if I'm not inclined to scratch build something, I will often paint the inside of the canopy gloss black to mimic what you see on pictures and artwork sometimes. It makes it look like it's 'under' the canopy frame as well. It's an effect I like doing.
    At least with PM Model kits their price reflects the level of detail.

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't tend to bother making a cockpit when not much will be seen through the canopy

    You can tell the older modellers by the comments here. As a kid in the 60’s/70’s you’d have been over the moon with this kit back then. No one ever worried about the lack of cockpit detail. Some kits just had a pilot sitting on a stick.

My version has line drawings and no coloured plan if I'm not mistaken. I've had better kits from cornflakes packets. Having said that... there's always a fan of the slightly quirky.
