djvlad Hello, do you have a personal relationship with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ? The Son of God. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. - Romans 10:9
Godfrey's Cosby impression is way better than Aries'. But Aries has the best Eddie Murphy impression I've ever seen hands down. Yes, even better than Jay Pharaoh's.
I always thought we were too sensitive with Cosby’s criticisms about our youth and education. Shit, he didn’t say anything any different than our own parents and grandparents have said. We just didn’t like it because of the generation gap. Of course people of that age are going to criticize our music, our youth, and so on. The messed up part about it is that Chris Rock said worst stuff than Cosby, and NO ONE got mad. Rock said “there’s black people, and there ni-as, and the ni-as have got to go.” Oh yeah “you wanna hide ya money, put it in ya books. Why? Cause ni-as don’t read.” We should’ve been pissed about that, right? Dave Chappelle said it best “People forget that Bill Cosby’s a ni-a from philly, and every once in a while will say some real shit.”
Charvin Davis I see truth in what you're saying, but I think the Chris Rock comparison is off. Big differences between the two. For one, Chris has never built his act, image, or stance off of "respectability" whereas Cosby has. Also, the famous "Niggas Vs. Black People" bit, as problematic as it turned out to be (evidenced by the fact that he had to retire it or distance himself from it), made a differentiation between two classes or types of Black people. It wasn't a sweeping generalization and condemnation like Bill's statements were. Plus it was delivered in the context of a stand-up routine, so it was humorous. Bill's was in speeches, and the tone was judgmental, smug, and superior. Only one of the two could really be perceived as mean-spirited. Last but not least, the clean image and the respectability politics that Cosby pushed and those condemnatory messages looked ultimately hypocritical with this huge scandal. All those things make a huge difference.
Yes, it is hypocritical for someone to talk about kids out of wedlock while screwing other women. Hell, my parents generation always talked about that, meanwhile I got cousins with the same mother but different daddies. What Cosby did “preach” for years was education and trying to be the best you that you could be. Everyone can be hypocritical in life, but if I want to learn how NOT to go to prison, I’m going to listen to dudes that went to prison just as much as dudes who have never been. I don’t dismiss the message of betterment because the messenger is a sinner. Also, as far as the chris rock point, I challenge people to take a chris rock quote and put Bill Cosby’s name on it. Watch the negative reactions you get. Then take a bill Cosby quote on education and getting good jobs and carrying yourself in public, and put Chris Rock on it. We’ll find that it is ALL about the messenger. See, I’m old enough to remember Cosby BEFORE the 80’s show. I’ve always heard about him being a “hound” for women. I have dudes in my family like that. They sin, but tell you NOT to sin. Do you not listen because they are a sinner?
Tupreme dot com what that have to do with anything he was the biggest star in the mid to late 80s and has grossed 6.7 billion dollars for the movies he’s starred in. Don’t start that dumb shit.

When I was in college, a good friend of mine, who was an officer in the BSU and I was the president of the friends of the EOPS at our college, had invited me to go up to Burbank to see the taping of a new show. We usually invited one another to each other's organizational events. One day he told me the BSU got tickets to the taping of a popular TV show called "A Different World" with Lisa Bonet, a spin off of the Cosby Show. He asked me if I was interested and I said yes. It was quite an event! It took all day to tape 14 hours for a half hour episode! I sat directly behind Keenan Ivory and Damon Wayans. That was just before their movie "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" and their show, "In Living Color". I only recognized who they were after they blew up. Then, I just thought they were just two obnoxious dudes acting the fool! I still remember the clothes they were wearing. They were wearing, blue jeans, white T- shirts, white sneakers, and black leather bomber jackets (you know, that late 80s early 90s look). I thought Marisa Tomei was fine as hell! That was before her famous role in "My Cousin Vinny". OBTW, Lisa Bonet had just started seeing Lenny Kravitz. She was a seriously snobby diva. When the cast of the show was introduced all the members, except Lisa Bonet, came out to acknowledge the audience. I don't even recall her waving. She just crossed over behind the sets! It was like she wanted no part of the audience. I didn't much like her attitude and it affected my like for the show! So, anyway, that was my brush with fame and a memory of a great time! Lol
