    Honestly, Band-Maid's origin story is better than 90% of super hero origin stories. These documentaries are a good inside view of how it all started, but more important it shows that the humans behind the band's image are absolutely authentic. If you can find the 90 minute documentary of their US tour that came out with the Tokyo Garden Theatre DVD, and the documentary that came with the Yokohama Arena DVD, it really shows how much they care for each other, how strong the bonds between them have become, and just how much performing means to them. All the behind the scenes videos on their official fan page show they aren't rock divas, they are still hard working young women who take their music seriously.

    Miku is so AWESOME! Great reaction and I'm glad I wasn't the only one who had goosebumps or watery eyes at part of these documentaries, especially with the song selection. Ohrenje did a good job showing many why Miku is the heart of Band-Maid with her energy and determination. Having watched several reactors do the documentaries, you can hear how some focused on one member or another, but when they get to Miku, you can see a whole new level of respect for Miku. Well done Ohrenje! Looking forward to Parts 2 and 3! PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘

    Welcome back. Miku's the best, isn't she?
    Thoughts chronologically as I watch.
    The family life of many Band-Maid members is surprisingly similar. Lots of influence from mother figures, re-marriages, and big age gaps with siblings.
    15:46 Miku's real name and voice.
    There's a surprisingly large amount of Lil Cumin video available.
    It's really cool that the original ad for Band-Maid auditions is available on the Wayback Machine.
    I would love to know the story of how she settled on Kanami, of all the guitarist/singer/songwriters she must have seen online. Imagine if she had chosen anyone else.
    Your comment about being put off by the maid costumes is very common. I used to think maybe it's 50/50 people who are put off vs. people who are intrigued. But after following the band for several years now, it seems that for every "intrigued" there's at least 20 "put off".
    Some context on t-shinji, the fan who was interviewed toward the end. He's a longtime fan who has provided (I don't say this lightly) immeasurable value to, in particular, fans that don't speak Japanese. Virtually all of Band-Maid's content, especially from the early years, but even today, is exclusively in Japanese. t-shinji has been essentially the band's unpaid promotional arm in the West. He doesn't just translate; he provides context (how do band contracts work in Japan?), explains things like why Miku is a great lyricst, takes pictures at events like Miku's Zemaitis guitar display. He's even gotten subtitles on their official music videos to be corrected! I can't overstate the effect he's had and he's more than earned a spot in the documentary.

    I remember by the end of 2015, I saw the video of Thrill. What caught my attention was the maid outfits. I'm big on anime and always wanted to go to a maid cafe. Thrill caught my undivided
    attention, and I never looked back. I lost track of them for a while due to unfortunate life events, but then i jumped right back in about 2 years ago, and now there's no turning back.
    I'm a proud Maidiac.

    Their first overseas show was not the show in Mexico mentioned in the video. The first international show was as a feature guest performer at Sakura Con in Seattle in March 2016. Their first show in Mexico was in October 2016.

    Mika Miku Karuppo! the only thing I personally think Ohrenje missed was the fact that Miku Kobato is a Stage name her real name is " Mika Noguchi" apparently she changed from Mika to Miku cos Mika sounds too much like MISA cannot remember my source but I'm hopeful someone in the comments might remember.

    • @Davey-Boyd
      @Davey-Boyd 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not sure about Miku. But choosing Kobato is explainable. It literally means small pigeon.

    • @nomennescio4604
      @nomennescio4604 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It's a hard one. Yes, she called herself Noguchi Mika in "Lil' Cumin", and in the TV appearances she did early on - learning accents with idols (Kobato doing the thick-as-brick Kumamotu one), and a show for teenagers where she essentially played herself as the new kid just moved in from Kumamoto to Tokyo.
      And Noguchi certainly fits the part as it is a name associated primarily with south west Kyushu and Ryukyu islands. So that checks out. But since her entire persona has this obvious "Kumanoto shusshin" aspect to it, that might already be an assumed name, just one referencing Kyushu rather than, well, pigeons...
      It's entirely possible it is her actual name. But is also possible she assumed it going to Tokyo. We're not sure. She certainly has as many personas as David Bowie already. As someone from the management side put it ("Unseen World" book), she might just be the most "normal" of the girls - what she is doing with the personas is putting up a front to protect herself behind, that allows her to be as relatively fearless as she manages to be.
      I think the similarity Mika/MISA as a reason for the name-change might come from the "TV-tropes" article on Band-Maid (trope of "One Steve-Limit"). At least it should have the same source.

    It doesn't mention it here why Miku left home to live with her grandmother, but it has been told before that sadly she and her older step brother had a pretty stormy relationship.

    • @JohnnyReacts1
      @JohnnyReacts1  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So that was the reason then?

    • @nomennescio4604
      @nomennescio4604 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@JohnnyReacts1 We don't really know enough. She seems pretty close with her half-brother these days. He has turned up on her Instagram occasionally. And she has confessed to being a doting aunt to her nephew. Some stuff can easily get overstated.
      What Kobato has said in interviews is that as a kid she did have had fights with her much older brother, and that also included fisticuffs. Kobato prides herself of her ability to throw a proper punch if she needs to ever since. But kids do fight.
      The reason might just as well have been purely to make ends meet, since her mother was left alone to manage things. We don't know exactly.
      And for all the care and attention Ohrenje has put into this, the documentary has to make some assumptions and interpretations that can't quite be confirmed.
      Fx it's claimed she went to university, and it is clear that Kobato applied for university. (She has yanked Saiki's chain a bit on occasion innocently asking is Saiki ever did anything like that, knowing full well Saiki, "the daughter of the car dealership", never had any kind of academic ambitions.)
      So at least she did all the the entrance and placement tests, and was accepted into university. But it's less obvious she actually attended. According to what Kobato has said interviews, it was on her 18 birthday she declared to her mother she was going to Tokyo to try to get into the entertainment business, and thus she was not going to university. It might be that mum's dream was for her to go to university (the kind you scrimp and save for), and so she made mum cry on her 18th birthday. Given her age, and how soon she realized this plan, it leaves very little time for her to have attended and dropped out of university. (All the part time work she was doing was a as a high school student - a shift in a canning factory, followed by shift as a café maid, followed by a later night shift as a waitress in a proper restaurant serving hot-pot, iirc.) And we have a very considerable deficit of any information at all about what she was supposed to have been studying.
      We're all basing things on snippets of informations gleaned from interviews over the years.
      There are things that can be added. Part of Kabato's decision to head to Tokyo seems to be her running into and becoming mates with Nesmith - the Japanese-African American boy-band singer ("Exile"). The way Nesmith tells it he was the one who insisted if she wanted to try for a career in music she really needed to go to Tokyo. Kobato was kind of apprehensive, since she didn't know anyone in Tokyo, to which Nesmith had the comeback: "Well you know me, so thats' alright!" (He seems to have been rather smitten by her - comment being: "I had no idea there were girls this cute in Kumamoto.")

    • @Davey-Boyd
      @Davey-Boyd 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If her mum was working full time that would of left her older step brother as her guardian for a lot of the time. Not great for him either. Moving to grandmas was a good move in that sense.
