I recently drove an I5 40 saloon. After the novelty of instant torque shared with every other EV wore off, I couldn’t help but think it was completely inferior in every aspect to it’s predecessor, the G30. The G60 was never going to be the second coming of the E39, but it’s too expensive, too gimmicky, too cheap inside and lacks the consistency of every 5 series before it. I do think the touring looks better and the 40 definitely makes more sense than the stupid M variant but it’ll never be the all rounder that a G30 530d X-Drive is.
Agreed. I currently run a G31 540i xDrive Touring and whilst I don’t like the look of the G60, I thought I’d test drive one. The interior is a cost cutting exercise and given the price, the range doesn’t stack up whatsoever. I’ll be replacing my current G31 with an LCI example instead of the new I5, that dealers can’t seem to sell…
I looked at waiting for the saloon version when my 3 litre diesel G31 needed to be changed at the end of last year. Couldn’t justify the massive lease cost so went for an iX3, hate it and will change to a used 540i touring when I can.
Such a great car, but I could never see myself buying something without a proper engine. That sound and the feedback you get just makes the whole experience. It's a nice touch that they tried to get Hans Zimmer to try to fix that issue! I wonder what he drives...
Only just seen this Joel! I really want to like this, having a 540i Touring at the moment, and it would be the perfect step into a fully electric Touring, in m60 form…: but at £100k, it’s only just £12k less than the M5 Touring, and if current EV prices are to go anything by, the £100k m60 will be £40k in 2 years… might wait for that instead.
I love the 5 series touring and this is a good looking car, way better looking than any Tesla. However, I am surprised by the acceleration figures, both the old 535d and 535i are faster. Given this is about £90k new, I would if I had that to spend on cars, have a ULEZ compliant 535d at £18k and a Cayman!
Over rated how? Don’t just give a generalisation. Elaborate. Build quality? Power? Design? What’s over rated? What’s a comparison that you would say isn’t over rated?
@@rgriff6671 I drive a car that bmw drivers love to hate an alfa romeo giulia quadrifoglio .only marque with soul and passion built into every car I've owned 15 alfas. Along with alot of other makes including German. In my veiw nothing comes close

Exactly. G30 will be the high water mark.

Great little vid that. You’ll never beat the sound of a classic BMW straight 6 though….if only one of the sounds was of that….🤔
Great review Joel, just bought myself a i4M50 2023 mod 1 week ago, and i am so impressed by the feeling, quality and power !
Sounds absolutely ace in that mode 👌
Great work given the lack of 'seat time'!
Thank you!
Informative, succinct and entertaining. Great job 👍
Yup old Joel not bad. Better than me. Hate to think how wooden I’d be on maiden bash car review.
I don't know if it matters but these new i5's weigh the same as a Rolls Royce Ghost 6.75ltr V12..
Almost 2.5 Tons
That’s crazy!
Was busting up laughing at your face w/those sounds🤣! They would probably get on my nerves after a bit, thanks for sharing Joel! Cheers Kirk
Yes I imagine it would me too, I'm sure you can turn it off!

Greetings from the Netherlands!!!❤

I think for once the 5 series estate looks better in my opinion. The taillights are much better than the saloon
6:23 😂😂😂

Ugh! Never see one on my driveway.
I like the interior but it still sounds like an 80s milk float.
My 3.0 E86 sounds better than that gimmick on wheels 😂
Don't disagree about the sound!
Driving in your jacket is bad practice mate. Can negatively affect safety too!
Hhm. What an utterly boring looking car. And ruined even further my that horrible colour.
Sorry but to me you have to be a certain type of person to own a bmw .so so so over rated as with all German cars
What do u drive
I agree the new bmws are poo the ones from the 80s nd 90s yes please
