this is a beautiful song we sang this in my high school choir which i must be cocky for a min WE ROCK!!! but its so beautiful and it makes everyone in our class cries when we sing it and the audience cried too... ITS SO LOVELY!!!!!
THAT'S MY FAVORITE PART TOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! sometimes i just fast-forward to that part and listen to it over and over!!!!! that part is absolutely amazing.
I absolutely love this song. This years music doesn't even compare to last couple of years. I love this type of music, and this year there isn't going to be a single song that is even close. I wonder who the clinician will be...i think i shall give him or her a piece of my mind. ;)
This is amazing. I actually made into All State this year, and this is one of the songs. I'm tenor one, and will be going up January 7, 2009 to Alburqurque. I can't wait. But you guys where amazing.
we sang this for LMEA all-state choir and we had to do it without music so it wasn't half as good as it could've been... i LOVE the slow women's portion starting at 2:50- yall were great!!
I have to agree with you. I've heard this piece hundreds of times and arranged it for orchestra for a class. They did a beautiful job and the piece does have some difficult spots. And I've been in All-State Choir with all the tons of ppl. But they were going flat a bunch and would have been way out of the key if not for the piano. THANK GOD FOR PIANOS!!! but all in all, mad props!
The Bowling Green State University Men's Chorus is doing a TTBB arrangement of this piece, as a 3rd year member, this has to be in the top 5 of all pieces that we have sung since I became a member. Only Timothy C. Takach's, "And Her Smoke Rose Up Forever" and Bibel's "Ave Maria" rank above this piece for tonal quality, beauty of arrangement, and overall conveyance of the message of the piece. I cannot wait to preform it.
Amazing song and great performance! The version I sung in, the choir didn't utilize the dynamics and tempo changes as effectivly as in this one. Amazing job, and be sure to look up the *CORRECT* translations. Its completely epic and one of my favorite pieces of choir music
Had the priviledge of being the second choir ever to sing this piece, while it was still in manuscript, not print. My director worked intimately with Z and I can assure you, the pronunciation sung here is correct, at least to what the composer invisioned!
Debe ser muy dificil lograr el fraseo musical tan correctamente con un coro tan grande. Esta interpretacion es muy bella y bien lograda. El reto para tiempo y dinamica recuerda el del Ave Verum de Mozart.
It's an All-State choir, made up from kids from all over the state. It's really not that easy to get into. You have to go through two audition processes. Sightreading and theory, and then music memorization. It's really competitive. In Florida this year, there were only three spots for 2nd Sopranos from my district.
I dont know if its the recording but there seems to be some pitch problems throughout....our choir's doing this song this semester. That a cappella section on the G# is TROUBLE for us. I'm surprised that ya'll used the piano. Good sounding choir tho.
I love this song, as my school's chamber choir is doing it. But I really think the pronunciation should be in the Castilian Spanish, therefore the "s" sounds should be more like "th" sounds, cause the Latin Spanish for this song just doesn't seem to work.
Our choir did this with Dr. Stroope as a visiting conductor. It is a bit too fast. And sopranos get so caught up on hitting their high notes and keeping good tone quality that they forget they're singing in a group. Less vibrato and don't forget to listen to the other parts girls! And either that piano is out of tune or someone is going off pitch a couple of times.
naw dude it really is See. I was brought up speaking both spanish and italian by the way so im not trying to act like a know it all. the reason why i think alot of pple sing it as Thee is to prevent it from becoming really bright and shrill as it did sometimes in this video. but truely it is pronounced See.
Does it sound like a lisp with any other word that uses a "th"? lol Anyway, like engrish said, it's Castilian Spanish so it's pronounced with the "th" not the "s" sound. I think it sounds silly with the "s" sound =P
This song is very beautiful, but this interpretation lacks lots of emotions. There are many variations in dynamics, but I can't feel intensity in your singing nor in the conductor's gestures.I know it's dificult to deal with too many people, but I didn't feel the music in your singing.Where is the expression for the text?Put on the voice what you are singing! You didn't make me get goosebumps all over, and I always cry with this music. But the choir is great, with voice, but you have to learn more. :)
Woah sopranos, way too much vibrato. The vowels sound a bit spread, and the pianist wasn't even watching the conductor for the timing in the beginning - even so it's too fast. There are also some pitch issues throughout the song.
The only thing I hate about All-State choirs is the sopranos, they're all competing with each other and drowning out the lower parts. They also usually have way too much vibrato.

My choir sang this for district concert in 2005...this is still one of our favorites!
THAT'S MY FAVORITE PART TOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, goodness I did this at Stetson University back in September, and I still get chills for this and Winter.
This is amazing. I actually made into All State this year, and this is one of the songs. I'm tenor one, and will be going up January 7, 2009 to Alburqurque. I can't wait. But you guys where amazing.
wow.. this sound just like my high school choir. we did this song for contest last year and all 3 judges gave us a 1+.
we sang this for LMEA all-state choir and we had to do it without music so it wasn't half as good as it could've been...
i LOVE the slow women's portion starting at 2:50- yall were great!!
This is the Oklahoma all-state choir from last year. You should check out the 2008 OMEA all-state choir, too. It was even better!
seriously you guys did good job!
this music and your voices are so wonderful!
DONT GO FLAT!!!!!!! Great performance, when the phrase is decending, think up!!!

I just love this song!!!
we're singing it with our high school!
my favorite part is at 2:50 :)
We had Rene Clausen for Minnesota All-State Choir this year.... We did Jabberwocky and Amor de mi Alma too
so. beautiful.

Amazing, well done,
Bella musica.. donde puedo conseguir la letra...

we sing this in new with two bass 2 and got 1# over all the choirs there 2008
the thee is pronounced like that because of the region it was written in. Different spanish countries pronounce that with either a thee or a see
It's an All-State choir, made up from kids from all over the state.

im singing this!
SIMPLY EXQUISITE!
yeah, my choir is doing this song too right now. i thought it was pronounced like "yo no na 'thee'" though. oh well, its still good.
Written by Z. Randall Stroope from a text by Garcilaso de la Vega. Commissioned by the Meistersingers of Englewood, Colorado.

True, the T's should be softer, but not necessarily a full "TH" sound. It really does depend on the dialect of Spanish.

i think there should hv out more women singing there coz the men's voice were kinda covering the women's voice, but still it's great
Randall Stroope's an ORU graduate! :)

you are right its yo no na thee see no pa ra que re
Well, it was an All-State chorus. I bet the kids just wore the attire they wear at their home schools.

lol this size of only that sound? my highschool choir can outmatch that type st.patricks
@antsagu I agree. Great sound, but bad intonation.

Good job guys but UM Chorale's version was much expressive and heartfelt than this.
certainly not the most minimalistic of conductors.
too much vibrato :(
too bad we sang out of tune 99% of this song...
