our chorus is going to sing this song for our festival we are 3 time grand champions in a row for our competitions that we compete in!!!!!!!!!!! go East Rowan High School salisbury, NC
My school took this piece to Festival one year and got a 1. This has been my favorite piece so far out of all the music we have performed. Thanks for the upload. :]
XD i was in the Basha choir in AZ when we sang this. i think it was my favorite song that we ever sang ^_^ and when i saw the new Alice in Wonderland movie, it made me want sing it again. 'tis an awesome piece
This was the first time i'd heard it too, and it is really great. My director gave me the music, but not a CD to start working on it. We haven't been in school for a week because of the storm, so I still don't have it. Anyway, I heard he's a great director, and i'm soo excited for the festival. We're going to be great. xD
ugh listening to this music ALMOST makes me want to go back to highschool.....well i could go through 11th grade again but id probably die if i had to relive my senior year....... anywaysthis was my favorite song, and it beat Amor de mi alma because you could BREATH!!!! (very important for me lol)
so difficult.... my high school honor choir is performing this piece. a month after we get the music we still can't even sing through the whole thing without hitting a wrong note! A lot of dissonance and a lot of almost medieval sounding chord structures... very interesting, brilliant, creative, and FUN!
This song was performed beautifully, actually. I prefer it to Pottle's version; it's got a much richer sound to it. This song is going to be performed for PMEA Regional Choir this year, and Dr. Clausen is going to be our conductor. I'm really excited to work with him, and it's coming up in the middle of march. So, time to get to work!
@BastRulez The two most popular settings of "Jabberwocky" are the Clausen and the Pottle, this one being the more ominous, the Pottle being diatonic and pretty hunky dory. I prefer this one as it better paints the text, which is pretty dark in the beginning. I feel that Pottle simply sees nonsense words and thinks, "oh this must be a childish happy song." This is much more realistic. We all have Jabberwockies in our lives, what matters is what we do about them.
@liveforlaughsx Oh my goooddness this is the first time i've heard it and after hearing how amazing this piece really is...!!!! Plus I LOVE Lewis Carroll. I'm excited as heck to get started on it (My director gave me the music yesterday....after telling me how lucky we are for getting Clausen as our director!)
cool, I can identify with that. With such a large group its hard to keep it together sometimes, and when you stop singing and hear the piano, you go whoa! It was wonderful tho, I prefer this to the faster arrangement, its pleasant to listen to.
Awesome, I see Tyler from my school! I'm totally singing along with this while it plays(I practiced this song, but I was sick during auditions. Poo.)XD I kind of prefer the highschool Jabberwocky to the juniorhigh one. Gorpin03: I never sang a more difficult version of this but I agree that it was pretty easy.
my choir had to sing thing song but it was a different arragement....but this one is okay too...its alot slower then the one we did and ours was only SSA
its really how alot of all state choirs look... theres no excse for scratching because thats just dumb but in the all state choirs these kids are from all the different high schools in the state and theres no 1 set uniform since its a one time performance.
Second the point about Amor. I never did it right, not even after leaving it aside for a year or two. (Three first basses keep stagger breathing at different places...)
kbdb22 yes, I was there that year and learned it but for some reason didn't make it into this choir. instead I ended up in the women's omea. I loved learning this song and was totally worn out after camp.
Oh, well, because you asked so nicely... What the hell? It's called freedom of speech. When you give up your right to it, i'll give up mine. But you first.
haha! I love how much better this version was than the one we had to sing for OCDA thaat same year. Sorry to anyone that loved that song, but compared to this version, the other one was kinda lame =D
Hey check our version (Wachusett Regional High School) and tell us what you think. Our ending is exciting though I don't know how well you can see it on the video. Search: Wachusett Singers/Chamber "Jabberwocky" 2007
This rendition is not nearly as well written as the one my school is doing... The parts are all blending together into nothing... And it all sounds as if they're all trying to sing the same notes(i.e. Soprano's trying to sing the same note as the basses, alto's, and tenor's.) Which is never good... And the piano is too quiet. But what do I know, i'm just a harsh critic. And as someone said, yes, they are quite flat in certain parts, and their vowel pronounciation is a little off...
I sang this 5 years ago in my choir and still get goosebumps from just listening to it.

I commissioned this piece for my HS choir back in 2004. This is a GREAT performance!
i performed red red rose at all state last year, for new york state. i absolutely love that piece.
I LOVED singing this song in choir. Whenever we had a chance to perform we always requested to sing this. We had so much fun. I miss singing it.

Too Renne Clausen Conducting too Awesome experience!.. Amazing guys great job!
I'm singing this for my PMEA regions chior this year with Dr. Clausen. Should be super cool !!
When I sang this at District Choir I didn't like it until I heard the whole song, then I was like Yeah!! Greatest song ever.
This was the first time i'd heard it too, and it is really great. My director gave me the music, but not a CD to start working on it. I SANG THIS VERSION!!!! love this song
PMEA regions is held at my school this year.we tried to get Eric whitacre to conduct, but his agent told us he would lose money to do it.
we're singing this in my high school choir. :)

Haha! For real. I was in OCDA that year too... It really sucked that our concert was cancelled.

we're singing that in choir
:). I appreciate that.
I remember this... See the guy in the second row from the front who keeps flicking his hair out of his eyes? Yeah, that's me. How times have changed.
Yeah, it really will be!

wow! excellent work. One thing tho,is the piano mic'd and monitored? Cuz sometimes during the vocal rests the choir seems a tad off note.
@musicsinga Ah! It was awesome, wasn't it? :D This was my favorite (with The Cloths of Heaven as a close second) ^_^
its really how alot of all state choirs look... theres no excse for scratching because thats just dumb but in the all state choirs these kids are from all the different high schools in the state and theres no 1 set uniform since its a one time performance.
This is a great piece of music! If anyone has the sheet music for it or other recordings of it, I would love to have them if I may be so bold! :)

The 2008 video is up....check it out. You are so right about Jeffrey Redding, too!!
I sung this back in my highschool days. It's hard to find this version. I like it better because it's so creepy sounding.
@SlaveToTheTheater you were there too? wasnt clausen awesome!?
@Slink12345 Did they use this piece for the summer choral camp at SWOSU in Weatherford?
kbdb22 yes, I was there that year and learned it but for some reason didn't make it into this choir. instead I ended up in the women's omea. I loved learning this song and was totally worn out after camp.
@musicsinga Ah, completely! I didn't even look at my music once during the performance xD
this is the biggest choir i have seen in my life. lol
2:45 with EYES OF FLAME! Bad.Ass.
just kidding. we're singing a different version.
i believe it's sam pottle.
Oh, well, because you asked so nicely...

Rene Clausen
Well, the accompanist is terrible. She accompanied a year I was in the OMEA allstate choir, and she just isn't an accompanist. So, mostly her fault.
