Apocalypse Now
Believe it or not... CCR were NOT from the south. They were from CALIFORNIA !!
CCR didn't know HOW to make a bad song. Trust us, (all of the commentors), when we say that being you've loved the two Creedence songs that you've heard thus far, you'll probably love them all.
Absolutely!🤙
CCR wrote at least 30 of your new favorite songs
@@ZacCostilla They didn't write Suzie Q, they just recorded the hottest version of it.
@@rosevfx I know that. It was originally a Dale Hawkins song. But their version is the definitive version, for sure.
I'm not a fan if CCR at all. Hated Fogerty. The tribute band with actual members is pretty darned good, tho.
John Fogarty was a California guy. Amazing how he and the band developed such a Southern style of music
Thought it was the Bayou country they were from.
I think he's on a tour. Next stop, Ohio.
@@scottzappa9314
They’re from the East Bay Area.
@@maryrosekent8223 Thank you
Fogerty......
The irony of this southern Mississippi sound is that they're all from California. React to "Run Through The Jungle" or "Lodi" next, please. You'll love any CCR song you listen to. Thanks, Polo. May GOD bless you and yours!
I hear California
And you thought Led Zeppelin was a rabbit hole; John Fogerty is still performing today! 55 years and counting. His catalog is enormous. Lead guitar and Vocals in CCR. Songwriters HOF. Rock & Roll HOF.
No one hit wonder for sure.
Keep going with CCR.
They are legendary.
I'm so very grateful to have grown up with all of the amazing talent we had in the 60s and 70s.
You are just getting started.Dive deeper. You won't be disappointed
This is off their first album........and they just keep getting better and better
“Born on the bayou” is a must…
👍🏻
Love "Suzy Q" Named my Panhead "Suzie Q" The best........ Creedence was awesome at Woodstock "69" Peace out........
Wow! You have a panhead - ride on, sista!
CCR has so many great songs, Fortunate Son, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, Run Through the Jungle, just so many great songs
_Born on the Bayou_ is my fave, but _Run Through the Jungle_ is a very close second.
Have you ever seen the rain is definitely one that a lot of reactors react to and each and every one of them likes it such easy listening music
One of the greatest American bands ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Saw John Fogerty 2 weeks ago. Playing gigs for over 60 years and the man still has it!
lucky you 🤗
So jealous! Where did you see him?
@@maryrosekent8223 in NJ. He is touring with George Thorogood this summer.
@@southjersey7693 Yes! We saw him and George at Tanglewood in Lenox MA about a week ago. Great show
Seeing John was one of the best concerts I ever went to. Wish I could have seen him with CCR.
It’s hard to go wrong with CCR.
as swampy as they sound and from Cali. John had a vision
I love how you find great songs by artists that no other reactors are doing, yet they still are great songs and showcase the bands well. Thanks for doing what you do.
when Polo gets the "stank face", you Know it's Good! Keep On Brother!
😄👍👍
Another killer song by CCR is "Fortunate Son."
Such a late 1960s sound. This song is 56 years old. CCR's music is generally simple but fun. They are never super technical like Rush or Led Zeppelin, it's more the feel of their songs.
Fortunate Son!! Great song by CCR
I remember 54 years ago putting this on Mom and Dad’s stereo and just rocking! Also Green River!
HOW can a man not have heard this song before? Not only is on the radio every once in a while, it is also in countless movies.
Perhaps those things aren’t a major part of his life.
Or perhaps he grew up not listening to this genre in his home growing up or on the radio because he never tuned the radio to rock. He is also a rap fan so why would you know this kind of music. I always crack up when people say things like, I can't believe you have never heard of this song before or have you been under a rock all your life? People got to get real
On classic rock stations, maybe.
This song was in "Apocalypse Now" with Linda Carter dancing in a USO show. That image always pops into my head with this song. Run thru the jungle , fortunate son or Bad moon rising are good followups.
Linda Carter of wonder woman fame
This was the shortened version , you will really like the long version with the extra long guitar solo
Born on the Bayou, Lookin out my back door, down on the corner, run through the jungle, proud mary...
That change in the vocal quality about halfway through was from Jihn Fogarty singing through a mega-phone. In the early days, a venue might easily have a sound system. To increase volume, the performers would sing through a mega-phone. No electricity is required. 😮
So you probably actually meant to say “…a venue might easily [not] have a sound system.”
@maryrosekent8223 yep. That's what I meant. I was just thinking, the Beatles used a megaphone in part of Windchester Cathedral too.
Polo, Creedence is pretty much universally beloved. No reason to feel odd if you enjoy it!
Best free concert ever seen at Spokane Fair grounds early 90s was so loud the legs of my jeans were vibrating ❤ ✌️ Polo...
3 number 1 albums in 1969 .
Thinking about how great music used to be kind of brings a tear to my eye. Always loved CCR and consider them to be a pure American sound. A great choice from them for sure. ✌️❤️🤟🥁
John Fogerty is a awesome singer and guitar player, he and his kids all play in a band together and they play his songs and they sound great
Amazing!
He has that voice AND plays one of the nastiest guitars in rock & roll history.
You have to see the genius scene in Apocalypse Now of a USO performance for American troops in Vietnam including scantily dressed women dancing to Suzie Q. The sheer incongruity and power behind a nation that can parachute an entire stage production into the heart of the Vietnamese jungle feels hair raisingly sinister.
The music choice is somehow perfect.
This song came out in 1957 performed by the writer Dale Hawkins. Many have done it but this is one of the best! You should hear their version of Heard It Through the Grapevine.
'Keep on Chooglin' LIVE at Woodstock
Then early album song 'Long as I Can See the Light'
You'll Love Both!!
My fav. CCR song, so many parties we would play it around midnight and blow the roof of the house...They use to close their shows with it and it would be bonkers....
They put out 7 albums in 4 years, '68 - '72, and then they were done. And a ton of great songs packed into that 4 years. They have a 20 greatest hits album and they're all truly great hits, no skips, 20 greatest hits in a 4 year span.
So many memories attached to this band and album.
"I put a spell on you " is your type of jam 🤘
Another banger by them
I love CCR! 🖤😎🖤😎🖤😎🖤
As a young man growing up in rural Oregon CCR was our party band... girls, beer and bud in the back of the truck on the river.
Those were such great times. We did it at old Rock quarries.
🎼Ya had to hear it back in 1968 when they recorded this number. We ALL loved Creedence Clearwater.🎼☮️
CCR is AWESOME. Check out "Bad Moon Rising" - that's one of there several All Timers
My favorite CCR song is Born on the Bayou. Nasty guitar and vocals. The best!
Why isnt it everyones favorite CCR...its damn near my favorite over all
The full track is 8 minutes long. You'd really dig that longer jam. And on the 40th anniversary of their debut album, they included a 10-minute live version of this song that is awesome. If you thought "Born on the Bayou" was a one-off, you're in for a wonderful surprise. CCR has the highest slugging percentage of all time. Nearly every song they did is worthy of a reaction, seriously. Try "Penthouse Pauper" and "Bootleg (Alternate Take)", and "The Working Man", "Porterville", "Gloomy", "Walk on the Water".
First CCR tune I ever heard at age 12. Turned 68 two days ago. Love this more with every year. 😎
I'd bet every Vietnam movie ever made, has a CCR track.
CCR is one of the few artists/bands that I can listen to an album and not skip any songs. They are all great.
One of my favorite bands ever!! Love CCR
My Dad was building a school out in the Pleasanton , CA area and these guys were practicing across the road in a warehouse. He come home and told us at dinner and my older brother flipped his top, then proceeded to go to work with Dad first opportunity. The Bay Area in those days was loaded with so many fabulous musicians - sweet memories
John Fogerty is touring with his two sons. We saw him at Tanglewood recently and it was Creedence Clearwater all night. He played the hell out of their songs, way beyond what he does on the original albums. If his tour comes to your city Keep on Chooglin and don't miss it!
Hard to believe CCR never had a #1 song.
Such a great era for music, so much competition…
Jeez it seems like just yesterday that I was dancing to this song when it came on WABC radio in NY. This was the coolest of the cool.
Check out the long version of "I Heard it Through the Grapevine"... it is epic.
Stick with them and remember how often you catch yourself smiling!!
This is a (dare I say) singular and unique band. They always sound like them, but no two songs are the same. I think they will continue to surprise you, Polo.
Try "Who'll Stop the Rain" or "Fortunate Son".
This song is their only hit that John Fogerty didn't write; this was a cover (originally done in 1957). Creedence' did it 11 years later.
They also covered Marvin Gaye song...
Not sure if you've reacted to their rendition of "Put A Spell On You" but it is absolutely hypnotic. Blows the original out of the water IMHO
You just took this 68 year old gramma back to her youth! Thank you! It makes these old bones hurt less after I got up and danced!
Ty for reaction Polo! While they sound from the swamp, are from El Cerrito, Ca. John Fogerty has the most unique voice. Can't go wrong down their road. Fogerty solo as well.
CCR had at least *20 hits* in the space of about 3 short years... just unreal. And two of them (Born on the Bayou and the classic Midnight Special) aren't even on "Chronicle - The 20 Greatest Hits" (the album cover in your video), they saved those for "Chronicle part 2"!
more from CCR: Wrote A Song For Everyone, Long As I Can See The Light, Down On The Corner, Green River
CCR reminds me of every garage band I heard playing in their attics in the 60s.
CCR is pure vibe, great ear candy; makes your body sway❤️🤘there is an 8 1/2 minute album version😊
The song is in the movie "Apocalypse Now". When the Playboy playmates appear. Awesome.
Long As I Can See the Light. Incredible soulful vocals by John Fogerty. He also played electric piano as well as a tenor sax solo.
CCR is California thru and thru! 😁 You MUST listen to more CCR. Fortunate Son, Green River, The Midnight Special, and many more!
Despite the southern swampy sound that they channel on a lot of their tracks, Creedence were actually California boys. There's a really nice documentary about them on Netflix (CCR at the Royal Albert Hall, full of flashbacks and narratives). I was amazed to learn that Fogerty didn't really play guitar until shortly before the band got together and put out their first album. The lack of standard training worked out pretty well, he invented lots of incredible riffs.
Long as I can see the light is my fav CCR definitely add it to the list!😎🍻✌️🖖
My fave as well!
My oldest sisters name was Sue. Sometimes we all called her Suzie Q! 😁😆🤣🤪🥳🤩😉🤪🙃🙂😚😆🤪😁🥳🤩
I too am a Suzie!❤
Second concert I ever went to was Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Midsouth Coliseum in Memphis when I was 11 years old. Still not sure exactly how my parents let me go. 🤣 Yeah, Creedence had that southern thang going for a bunch of Northern California boys. Give a listen to Effigy sometime. Not a single, but badass. And keep listening to the hits too!
Southern Mississippi sound from the San Francisco CA area.
CCR's song "Green River" would make your 4Runner list!
Saw CCR at Woodstock. They absolutely killed I Put a Spell on You!
Love CCR! One of my favs! Born in ' 65. Had the best music of all time growing up.
One of my all time favorites! The song and the band. Lov’m
Luv this vibe from them
Now this is my version of John Fogerty. songs. Swampy like . So many more. Keep digging. Cant go wromg with CCR. John's guitar is something else. Most underrated. This grp was from Northern Ca. Just sounded southern......😂
If there's a band that makes you feel like you were born too late, it's CCR.
I heard this song a lot from older brothers when I was 8/9 years old. Somehow this song is one of my favorite CCR tracks. Check out the long version from the Creedence Clearwater Revival album, it has a great extended section that was missing here.❤
This song was written and first recorded in 1957 by a guy named Dale Hawkins from Louisiana. This version is a very good more polished cover that gave it a more rock sound but keeping the 'swamp boogie' sound that Dale Hawkins pioneered
Love it. California swamp music. Please keep going.Gteen River next please
A friend of mine and I drove across Canada 25 years ago, Nova Scotia to Alberta, CCR greatest hits was the only tape we had 😅
Thanks polo, great Friday morning tune!
CCR has an amazing collection of songs. Too bad they were only around for a couple of years. Keep 'em comin'! 5/5 for me.
7:17. This song was written in 1957 by 3 southern musicians. It was inspired by Susan Lewis, the daughter of a record label owner.
My first introduction to CCR was hearing Susie Q on the radio. Commercial radio had just started to play longer cuts & Susie Q was just great to listen to for those extended minutes. Then Born on the Bayou was released & it was even better...
I was introduced to CCR when my brother came home from Vietnam. He used to stay in his room for hours with CCR cranked up. I was thirteen at the time and found that I liked them, too. My favorite group before CCR was The Monkees!!
Proud Mary, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, Who'll Stop the Rain, Lodi. You need to play those
Love Lodi
Funny thing about CCR being so associated with Southern Rock: they were a bunch of California boys.
Want to have your reality altered: Find their (original) version of Proud Mary. That’s not a Tina and Ike song; that’s a CCR song.
I second that!
Agreed. Funny thing is, I wonder how many people know that the Sacramento River fom Sacramento towards SF Bay is kind of of like the Mississippi Delta and the Louisiana Bayou.
My Favorite band since 1968 . Some may be as good but no one is better . ✌️❤️☕
CCR love them
Fortunate Son!!!
The singer, John Fogarty, is on your right now. He’s getting up there, people should go see him! I saw him in 2017 and he was fantastic
I had a college roommate who would go running with a walkman plugged into his ears (mid 70s). He said this was a perfect song to run with.
I love it, was 14 when i heard it the first time. My first name is Susanne and a young boy had a look of me, playing this record 😀
This sounds so good turned up loud as do all their songs. John Fogerty is in my top 5 vocalists all-time. Keep reacting to their music. Peace.
My FAVORITE CCR tune!! Thanks so much for the review! Great voice quality and guitar work.... For more great guitar work, try "Heard it Thru the Grapevine" the extended version.. You won't be disappointed! Peace
Definitely the extended version. Yes.
Saw them in 1973 that concert still rings in my brain oh ya
Bubble Puppy - Hot Smoke and Sassafras! If you don’t know you need to know. First psychedelic band out of Texas.
Polo, I remember hearing CCR when I was young and thinking what part of the swamp in Louisiana did they crawl out of? We had no internet to look it up. So years later when I found out they were from Northern California I was like WTF!? Their songbook includes so many great tunes. It still draws me back when dad was in Vietnam. 🖖🏼
