Thank you your post, sharing the repair experience with us. I have never seen this kind of error could occur but life is presenting it. That CPU corner bent is really interesting.
@graphenoid yes, officially ecc is not supported but the 5820k has a xeon memory controller so it can support ecc ram. Your video is another proof for that hehehe
@@graphenoid If the mobo doesn't support ECC then you can't use ECC even with a XEON chip. If the mobo does supports then if you pair the RAM with a Xeon you can have the ECC function
the funky connector is a 4 lane SAS/SATA port (SF-8087 plug). SM boards usually have onboard LSI SAS RAID controllers. It carries data for 4 drives at full 6G or 12G speeds, usually to hookup to the backplane with a single connector but you can also get a breakout cable that goes to 4xSATA connectors 🙂
I have 4 x the F variety (1Gb vs the 10Gb dual NIC of the TF). They make excellent virtualization (ESXi, KVM) servers. Memory is reasonably priced, and you can easily pickup a nice 16 core CPU. Very stable.
E5 v4 CPUs can be found easily on eBay. Time for an upgrade. Having said that, if I was a betting man, I would bet on one of under-side components on the CPU as possibly missing or bad. I couldn't find a reference picture to compare to see if anything is missing. Could be shorted internally, but seems to be awfully specific to that line.
Hi Bro, have you some experience with b550i rog strix? It stucks on dram led indicator. My setup is 5600g and g skill 16gb 3600mhz. I checked ram modules on Asus site and they are supported. I Checked this motherboard with pro 4650g and 2 others pair of sticks Kingston and corsair. I unpluged battery to reset bios it didn't help. I made bios update with the newest version. (BIOS flashback) I have 1.2 volt on memory phase and it can't post, my other board b550 has 1.3-1.38 and it's work good. I think voltage is too low on mem phase, but Idk I repaired only 3 boards in my life, so I'm not sure. I’m gonna update BIOS with ch341a eeprom method tomorrow maybe it will help. Under microscope the board is very clean, so i think its more bios / software related problem. I have boardview and pdf bot no idea what I should check next. I dont have tam tester Have you some idea?
Well there is also the VDDSP and also VPP that you have to check! Programming the bios with the CH341a might also help and also you will need to check data lines or at least make visual inspection for trace damage.
love your content I have a suggestion for you there is another TH-cam channel named Northwestrepair who repairs graphics card and you should look him up and should copy his layout for making videos this is only a suggestion but his videos are more engaging and I hope this will get your videos more attention
I actually know his chanel very well, but he puts in a lot off work and does it full time. I am a student with a job that does TH-cam as a hobby, i just dont have that much time to put more effort into the videos, even though i would like to! But thank you very much for the suggestion!

What a treat! Server boards are so nice!
Well done! Nice troubleshooting! You were lucky that the 5820K is the only X99 i7 chip that supports ECC memory ;).
Are you sure? According to the Intel webpage, the i7-5820 doesn't support ECC memory.

@@Nikos_Radioactive you can use the ECC memory with a mobo or cpu that doesn’t support ECC but the ECC function won’t be active as far as I know.

Love all your repairs. Always love the problem solving process.
How can I send you a mainboard for repair/video or get in contact with you?
