Eric Burdon - The Animals - We Gotta Get Out Of This Place

  • This video seems to have disappeared. There is another version of this with a 50 second introduction here: www dot youtube dot com/watch?v=TpNWSW49IBM . But the version I'm uploading does not have the introduction.
Until viewing You Tube I was not aware of Eric Burdon and The Animals, I had heard their songs, but didn't know who sang them. It's not a good idea for You Tube to remove these videos since they are a form of marketing and they make people aware of these artists. For example I just bought the 2 CD set "The Complete Animals [Extra Tracks] [Import]" from Amazon. They contain 41 tracks, the complete recordings made with Mickie Most as producer. Some of their future songs are not included since Mickie Most was not the producer at that time. Wouldn't have bought these CDs had I not learned about Eric Burdon and The Animals from these You Tube videos.

Man, Burdon can sing. There is nothing like that voice, or this calibre of song in music today.

One of the most underrated singers of the 60's....

    • @Slinkygal
      @Slinkygal 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Also, back then, we didn"t get to know or see much about the bands or artists with no internet & just one black & white t. v. (In a large family) & a few radios that you had to listen to whatever station you could get without too much static. You rarely got your choice of what to watch. This is why I also unfortunately didn't appreciate or get to enjoy Eric Burdon & .. ..... until seen on the internet. Then I quickly realized Eric Burdon was already the singer on most of my favorites over all these years. Been infatuated with him ever since.

The most amazing thing about this song is that it has such a huge amount of meaning to everyone. I know that I'm thirteen, and completely dissatisfied with my generation, and nothing sums up how I feel about it like this song does.
Ironic that it's forty years old, isn't it? The best songs never get old.

The best part about this music is that all generations can relate which (in my eyes) makes it timeless.

Unlike most rock stars, Eric Burdon had a natural born raw badass punk sadomasochistic Catholic schoolboy attitude with extra large balls. His tell-it-like-it-is repertoire of songs and aggressive vocal kick-ass style added up to one of the most excellent examples of a time period that is sorely missed.

This was one of the first songs my dad taught me on bass, along with the bass part for "I Saw Her Standing There" (which was the bass part for Chuck Berry's "I'm Talking About You"). From there it was me listening to, and playing along with, all of his old records (mainly the Beatles, but also the Animals, Beach Boys, Byrds, and Stones), and that's how I learned how to play bass and guitar.

Eric Burdon was way ahead of his time and his music is timeless. It's almost like someone came back from the future and laid down the chords to follow from then on. This song symbolizes how they were made to use suits when they probably would have been much more comfortable in tee-shirts and jeans. We gotta get outta this place, oh yeah they broke the mold.

Earlier in 1965 on Sept. 19th it peaked at #13...
At the time of this 'Shindig!' appearance the Animals’ "It's My Life" was at #36 on the Top 100; twenty-two days later on December 26th it peaked at #23 for one week...
    R.I.P. Jimmy O'Neill {Shindig's host, 1940 - 2013}...
    * The show was taped in England and all the acts were British...

Later in life I would come to meet & ride with Eric on the Famous "Love Ride" from Glendale, CA. While waiting for the Love Ride to start, we were standing around talking. I had to tell him he was the 1st band I was to see in concert. He just laughed & said your making me feel old kid. That year of the Love Ride I think I might have won the egg toss.

I sung this with Eric at the Michigan State Fair in Aug of 2001. Live show sure is different from 'studio' versions. We rocked!

Not written for it, but Vietnam became the implicit 'place' and cover bands all over US installations and boom boxes in the billets and bars in Saigon all blared out versions of this number.

I love the Animals going all way back to the 60's when they first hit the airwaves. They rock and one of my favorites from that era.

I remember hearing this song when it first came out. My favorite parrot had come down with rabies and I was in the backyard dispatching him humanely with a rake and a wet towel. It was a cool spring day, meaning it was the day of the year our town went out to the cool spring in the mountains and roasted goats. A transistor radio was blasting out this song and I remember thinking to myself, "Should I bury the parrot or just throw him in the trash?".
    True story...

I absolutely agree that there is more to be lost by blocking anything that goes back 30 years or more. After all most of these videos aren't available at any price but they are a part of history. A real aficionado like me is either going to seek out an original vinyl (used goods), and or buy the digitally remastered music for list price. And what's up with "not available on mobile? " I don't get it!
Hell yes!, Eric Burdon & Paul McCartney going strong and still rocking!
