How is this even a question, of course it's the players responsibility they're not children and are able to make decisions !

In fairness they are assets to the football club. It’s in their interest to make sure the players are fit, happy, safe.

*Seems reasonable that they would pay for their own private security. Some players do appear to be pretty dense*

Simon is out of touch. Big businesses in South America all provide security to thier top employees. Movie stars are all provided security while they are working for a film studio. Employees are protecting thier investments. Footballers are huge investments for clubs. Its in thier best interest to supply security for those investments.

@@Yewchewb Well that totally explains what culture has to do with it. lol
It makes perfect sense that they would. City paid 20m for Jesus pluss his wages. Thats a huge investment. When he goes back to Brasil they 100% want to protect that investment. They dont want to leave it to the players. The club is the one on the hook. If he gets kidnapped or his family get kidnapped its going to effect his play and that effects the clubs bottom line. Its why film studios provide security for Brad Pitt and the like while theyre under contract. If they get kidnapped while filming it kills the film.

@@russellward4624 not to mention every one can get a gun, in most of those countries, the security services are corrupt, underfunded and uncaring as a general rule of thumb (at least the powers that be)
So without private security your risk level goes up astronomically
I'm sorry but you cannot compare the safety of people in South America to Britain. Its just crazy.

How many zeros do you need on end of your bank balance to suddenly believe that someone else should pay for your security? Simple solution is don’t flaunt your wealth and you reduce risk of being a target

  • @neilgibbs1973

So one of these over paid pampered footballers says to his club " because you're stupid enough to pay me eye wateringly inflated wages it's your responsibility to pay for my security as I am now a criminal target due to ostentatious flaunting of my wealth " Joke!!

There's a difference between security and insurance.
Insurance means if something goes wrong, there's compensation for it. The law is very much glorified insurance.
Security means that there's a reduced probability that something could go wrong to begin with. Another word for it is prevention.
Surveillance is a huge factor nowadays in an always connected ecosystem.
The sad truth is that anything can happen to anyone at anytime. Paying for security reduces that risk but it's not always fool proof.
We all pay for car insurance, yet we all pray that no accidents happen. Even people who are responsible drivers, will make fatal mistakes.
So let's not confuse insurance with security. You need both.

I'm not being wise after the event BUT the footballer's being targeted because of the ludicrous money they earn was always going to end up being a reality and now it's is.
I'm remember hearing years ago that, it was NOT unheard of, but crucially kept quite & out of the media by clubs that, a number of unnamed players, that were born and breed in London, but whos families still lived on the same old council estates, we're having to pay protection money, to criminal gangs, so their family members wouldn't get touched.
As we know, many of these players come from absolute poverty. 20 years later, it's in The Sun they're now on £90K PER WEEK (much more TODAY) , while mum, dad & sister still live (for example) Stone Brigde Estate, N.London...... How do you THINK was all going to pan out 🤔🤔🤔🤔

Clubs, already crippled by huge wage increases, should have to pay millions in security?
Sorry but NO. If you're gonna earn the big money AND be on social media etc then you sort your own security out. Gated community? Set up cameras and £250k on a security team 24/7 instead of that new Lambo? Thats up to the players. Clubs are already struggling, more money on overpaid assets security is too much. You have to put a price on your security, on how important social media is to your 'brand' and how important your 'brand' is-rather than just putting football first and foremost in your priorities.
