I found it fascinating that his backstory was that of a victim of circumstance, yet he was also a jerk from the start. It's a very deliberate twist on the formula.
Yeah I don't buy the Jerk thing. Cora is clearly speaking from a biased perspective, likely holding a grudge against his brother after he killed their dad. Doffy clearly loved his mother and Cora for many years and it was his mother dying along with Cora almost being killed by the mob that ultimately made him kill his father.
I was just thinking that. Like even before leaving the celestial dragons he was a little jerk. Thought he was a God from the get go. I don't feel any mercy for this man.
@@chuhwey3632 what does that mean? Not everyone is a jerk as a child. It was just clear that Doffy was more of a jerk and bratty than most kids would be especially when you have someone who was not a jerk and who was caring like Corazon as his brother there easily to see how much more of a jerk Doffy was.
I rewatched Doflamingo's fight with Law recently and one of the things that I noticed is how Doflamingo treats Law like an object, not like a proper opponent. He doesn't use normal attacks against Law. Instead Doffy grabs his wrists, tears his clothes, crushes him, chokes him, shoots him multiple times while he's already severely hurt and can't defend himself, and uses his string and Trebol's goo to immobilize him and make him feel helpless and dehumanized as much as possible. Doffy treats Law like a bratty kid treats his toys. No wonder Law has trouble fighting back. He was terrified, embarrassed, and in excruciating pain. Just how Doffy likes his victims.
What sold me on doffy being a beast wasn’t his shades, or his status, or his drip…. It was his walk. You can’t tell me, that walk of his with Kuma didn’t make any alarms in anyones heads go off.
I swear to god before I saw how cool doffy is I had that same exact walk and I do it for fun still because its goofy and everyone will know that I am totally cool.
“Doffy is not just a villain for Law, he’s a mentor” I love that. This is proof of great character writing. The fact that their powers doesn’t exist in a vacuum is what makes a story. No doubt Law’s fruit is stronger or at least not as powerless as we saw him vs Doffy, but you got to remember the context for everything. This is not an FPS game.
I loved that he made law cry,Doffy took everything law threw at him,and it was his Gamma knife 🗡 that helped in the end, luffy intentionally headed butted him a few times in his stomach, the creep lol...
@@williamalbatross4677 Means you can't just shoot the guy and he will die. Some people are impervious to powers via Armament Haki or fruit powers. You could also regenerate using fruit powers.
@@amenra6042 No, they meant emotions and childhood trauma can make you feel scared or hopeless in front of a person responsible for that, even if you're not a weak little kid anymore you'd still feel like one.
There's three times in this arc where I was like damn, Oda really gets how being around people who knew you at a certain age brings out the child in you: when Luffy meets Sabo again and immediately tells him how he felt about losing Ace (reverting back to the whiny younger brother), when Rebecca and Kyros are reunited and she's once again his little girl, and when Doflamingo was taunting Law. He's once again that little boy with nothing in the world and only the words of this terrifying mentor.
I've seen this happen in real life too! My husband and I have been living a long way away from family for years and I feel that he is a well-adjusted mature person. We go to stay with his mom for a week around the holidays and his attitude shifts into this defiant teen-like mood for a week just from being back in that same place around those same people.
I think one of the key difference between Doffy and Cora is their mentor. Cora was found and raised by Sengoku, while Doffy was raised by Trebol who convinced him he's a divine, chosen one
I mean idk about that doffy was always nuts like him saying slaves are super awesome and screaming he was gonna murder everyone he tortured while rossinante didn’t do any of that
Actually Doffy is kind of a chosen one a divine 10 years ruling a kingdom he what crocodile would have been like only without luffy in his way and he almost had immortality Well at his end luffy the much more chosen one came😂
I genuinely love how Dressrosa arc went on another level in terms of portraying emotionally scarred people, effects of trauma etc. You can tell that Law’s quiet, dull nature is the result of Doflamingo’s cruelty by manipulation.
I do emphasize with Doffy but I pretty much feel the same way I felt about Azula in "Avatar the last Airbender." When Zuko said to Iroh, "I know what you are going to say, she is my sister and I should be trying to get along with her." Uncle Iroh replied with "No, she is crazy and needs to go down!"
That's exactly how I feel about him too. Like yes I understand he didn't have an easy life but that does not at all justify what he did afterwards. Lots of people had horrible childhoods and we don't all turn to crime and killing people. He is a 41 year old man I have little sympathy for someone who after all of this time only doubled down again and agai.
@@DieAlteistwiederda indeed there an ancient african proverb that states something like child that wasn’t embraced and shown warmth from his ppl will burn the village just to get it.
Yeah there is one LIIIL problem... azula is like not at all like doffy. Let's start with body count; azula ended a siege and a war with political mastery killing NO ONE; something iroh couldn't achieve even throwing the lives of hundreds againts ba sing se. 2- Age: azula... she's 13, YEAH, she's 13... i know you can be bad even at a young age but between an adult and a literal child you just cannot compare. 3: mental state; doflamingo it's obviusly a sociopath but, in our world, he would still be held accountable for his Crimes as azula showed CLEAR signs of schizophrenia, in our world a schizophrenic would be held accountable for murderer. So, between an adult mass murderer that kills with a completely clear mind and a child with serious mental problems who, to our knowledge, never killed anyone... the comparison isn't fair
Bro I checked what other roles he had and I didn't knew a single character...until I read WOLFGANG GRIMMER (Monster). I can't believe that man is the voice of 2 of my favorite characters in all fiction
His laugh is what i just LOVE about the voice acting, and a lot of people don't talk about it! It starts off as almost a chuckle, seeing something that makes you giggle, but as he continues it, it's like he's hiding his madness in it, trying to hide what insanity is really hidden in him, and only giving hints through his laugh and his smiling, everytime i think about it i get chills thinking about how we already saw how insane he is on the outside, but what if one day we got to see the insanity that's on the inside...
The most scary part is that he uses the string fruit, which at first seems like the dumbest thing to say. Until you realize the string fruit is the representation of his demonic nature. A heavenly demon that pulls the strings and controls everything like it's his stage, Doflamingo is truly a monster and the most villainous villain we can get in one piece by far
@@susie1175 yep, like Mr.Croco said, it depends on the fruit eater creativity. even if the fruit sound like it have dumb ability, but with the eater creativity, that power can be overpower.
Want to know what is even scarier? Since Kuzan's introduction, I realized that many Devil Fruit powers turn their users into jacked up versions of Marvel/DC characters. And Doflamingo is fucking Spider-Man. And if you think about it, Peter Parker is a genius who could most likely create web formulas that can emulate almost everything that Doflamingo does with the String Fruit. Minus the Fruit exclusive stuff like awakened technique and the self surgery. Although Spidey doesn't really need the self-healing much, since he has incredibly high endurance.
He’s one of my favorite villains in all fiction. He was impossibly heartless, cunning, efficient… To me, he was the living embodiment of the worst elements of greed. Just a black hearted demon that will get what he feels he deserves no matter the consequences. Death, torture, slavery, and whatever else can be useful for his ends, he’ll use it without a second thought because he views himself as fundamentally superior to everyone else because of his lineage.
What’s so good about the Doflamigo family is that they’re all some play on childhood. Because at the end of the day, Doflamingo is a grown man clinging to his childhood. Whether they’re dribbling snot, obsessed with art or toys, wearing their mom’s heels, etc., it’s all just a game to him. Doffy putting a literal cage over Dressrosa is like a kid hiding their dollhouse because they’re told to share with the other kids. And what is more cruel and vindictive than a child who feels like they’re being treated unfairly?
If anything, Doflamingo has been this scary looming threat behind the scenes. Starting with the Jaya arc with Bellamy and his affiliation to the Donquixote flag, then Sabaody Archipelago and the Slave Trade, and then we truly see him speak in Marineford. The man had a presence that could not be denied, and ever since we entered the New World, I was waiting for the Dressrosa arc, heck I thought it was even too early for Luffy. That was how much of a threat I saw him as.
The Bellamy/Doflamingo story becomes even better when Bellamy is asking for forgivness as a pirate. But Doflamingo ain't a pirate. "Everything is fine by me as long as I can destroy the world." Bellamy right there and then understood he had no part left to play.
Him and many other characters gave me the mindset to understand why they do horrible things but not sympathize with them. also nice new profile pic. 10/10 video
Yeah I think we’ve all had enough of the ‘bro… thanos was actually right tho’ takes, I think it’s time people stopped mistaking ‘understandable’, ‘sympathetic’ and ‘admirable’ for being the same thing
I didn’t sympathize with him , regardless of how someone becomes a certain way to me it only matters what they are now and doflamingo is a demon in my eyes
I agree with most of the video, I do think though that Doffy has a soft spot even if it is minuscule. He showed genuine sadness/regret when Monet and Vergo were about to die for him, got huffy when a rival pirate attacked Law and Baby 5 as kids and also saved them from that guy instantly (instead of letting the weaklings die for example). He also seems distressed immediately after shooting his father and brother before he regains his composure. I think he's intelligent enough to understand that there is something wrong with him, he's aware of his own insanity but will still always choose himself and his own ambition over others.
I agree with this very much as well! Maybe it's wishful thinking in wanting Doflamingo to be a slightly more complex character, but I DO feel like he actually likes some people, such as his crew and his biological family, as you said. He also defends Pica when he's being made fun of for his voice, which I thought of as a surprisingly thoughtful thing for him to do if he were entirely self-serving.
@@mastermarkus5307 It makes him a more well-rounded character too, I don't like the pure evil depiction of villains, there's always nuance to personality even if it is twisted.
The moment when he stands up for pico saying that anyone who makes fun of his family will pay for it is one of my favorite moments of his. For a series of villains who will throw away their right hand man in a second if it benefits them Doflamingo being debatably the most evil antagonists yet still showing some moments of care towards others really solidified him as one of my favorite antagonists in a long time.
As a victim of circumstance, I resonated with Rosinante so much and hes my fav character in the entire series. I remember being so sad when he died because we wouldn't be seeing him or his antics anymore.
@@jessiesargent7212 , if you cremate the persons body along with their Devil Fruits then that Devil Fruit dies permanently along with that Devil Fruit user hence why Corazon and his Devil Fruit are permanently dead along with Toki and her Devil Fruit too.

The horrifying part about Doffy is not that he got twisted by his past, but that he embraces what he became his uncompromising sadism. Some people just want to see the world burn…
Doflamingo is scary because his personality is real. its putting a light on something we kind of hide away in our minds. we know there is people like this irl even people worse then him. yeah we don't have the superpowers but the personality is so so very real irl. irl can be so much scarier then any story.
I'm going to say that he never canonically raped anyone. Not saying it's totally out of the question, but it's not a thing that's been said or established. He did sell slaves though, so it's not like you have a lack of bad things he did.
@@mastermarkus5307 Oda strongly implied that he and Viola fucked at one point. And considering she was basically his prisoner after conquering Dressrosa one could say their relationship was non-consensual, or at least badly unequal in power.
@@mastermarkus5307 Oda implied in the SBS that there was something going on between Viola and Doffy, and considering her hatred for him I doubt it was something she wanted (even if she might have done it to gain trust).
I think one of the most memorable things about Doffy wasn't anything in Dressrosa, but rather his speech in Marineford. here's this flambouyant Warlord who you know pretty much nothing about except he's SCAWWY and then he starts spitting straight BARS about how "There is no winner in war" and "the side of Justice is the side that Wins". it's a lesson i've seen in many other shows and stories, but for some reason when it's Doffy staring down a literal WAR between the largest pirate group and the ENTIRE FUCKING NAVY, it hits different and you really start to think about it. ESPECIALLY once you realize that Luffy is hopelessly outclassed and outmatched by pretty much everyone on the entire island over the rank of Commodore or Rear Admiral.
That speech he had at Marineford really stuck with me. It's because of it's profound & uncut nature, it truly resonates to real life. When looking at the world, it really comes down to those who are the masters of violence & manipulation that get to the top. The whole idea of the world being based on integrity & goodwill is nothing more than wishful thinking. I wished what he said wasn't true of the real world but it is for what it is sadly.
Now, that's just false. He never spout things so lawfully good such as 'There's no winner in war', that's too nice for Doffy. He said and I quote. *"The pirates are evil? The marines are righteous? Those views changed as often as the tides. Kids who have never known peace and kids who have never known war have **_different values._** Those who stand at the top can decide what evil is."* And then *"Justice will prevail? Of course, it will! Whoever prevails **_becomes_** JUSTICE!"* He didn't mean there's no winner in war. He says in every war, justice prevails, because whoever prevails *becomes* justice.
When Luffy told mingo that seeing him makes it hard to even breathe I let out a waterfall of tears. Like doflamingos presence alone was so towering that I was holding everything back. 😭
I do empathise with what Doflamingo went through as a kid. BUT THAT DOESN'T EXCUSE ANYTHING HE'S DONE! You can understand a character and feel sympathy for them and still hate and condemn them. Great analysis!
That's an insanely good point about him being such a good manipulater that the fanbase falls for his tricks 😯 damn I love hearing you talk about this series
Doflamingo and his history/personality reminds me of so many serial killers that are covered on Casual Criminalist. The people who despite going through hell, choose to cause pain to others. They can be interesting to study, but always horrifying.
Thank you! So many people still don't get why Law seemed so helpless in front of Doffy. It wasn't even about strength, Doflamingo knew all and everything about Law since he was a kid, a clever manipulator he is and Law's walking childhood trauma. You can't walk away from something that broke you as a kid just like that, unaffected. So it's not a yonko that makes Law's absolutely worst opponent, it's Doflamingo lol. Now I'm looking forward to your Law and Corazon video :)
I think the difference between Doffy and Corazon is how they react to their trauma. Doffy tries to push everyone down to get himself up, while Corazon will gladly sacrifice himself for a good cause, like helping law. The narcissist versus the savior you could say
@@TempestDacine Nah, he's just relinquished his lead role in the family to Doffy now so he can do less work whilst still benefiting from being one of the top 4 of the family under the guise of treating Doffy as his king. It's textbook "sketchy advisor guy who put on a puppet king" type stuff, he didn't lose his authority to Doffy (Doffy still respects him) or to the family, he's just shed the responsibility and accountability of being the main leader. I wouldn't be surprised if Oda revealed Trebol was the one who told Doffy about Mariejois' treasure or that the Donquixote used to rule Dressrosa and that's why Doffy did the things he did or smth.
@@NotSomeJustinWithoutAMoustache nah I don't think of him as a master manipulator. He definitely enabled doffy to be the man he his but doffy's celestial dragon connections and individual strength is what led him to where he is while trebol ofc does benefit as his right hand man. Trebol manipulated him only in the sense that he affirmed doffy's beliefs about himself and the world to be true.
@@TempestDacine He is somewhat of a master manipulator though, just not as much as Doffy, not even a percent. He didn't just intend to use Doffy, he's still using Doffy to get the benefits of being his right hand man as you mention. He's not ordering around or planting ideas into present Doffy or the people around present Doffy so yeah he's not manipulating him anymore, but he's still piggybacking off of him for those benefits. iirc he's Sugar's body guard or smth and beyond that I don't really know what he does for the family, and yet he still reaps a massive portion of the family's earnings. I don't really think he "became" subservient to Doffy after he failed at his maybe intended use of Doffy, I think he was planning to piggyback off of Doffy from the very beginning the moment he realized the potential Doffy had, and he succeeded there. Him piggybacking off of Doffy's efforts does not invalidate Doffy's connections or strengths or anything, rather it shows how blinded Doffy was by his own anger that he didn't even notice he was getting used and how much of a manipulator Trebol was by fanning that rage and empowering Doffy.
@@NotSomeJustinWithoutAMoustache hm I think I get what you mean now, he is quite strong but it def feels like he's gotten himself in a cozy position while doing the least of the leaders
Honestly, I believe Doffy has some level of affection for his "family"... we can see that in the farewell he gave Vergo on Punk Hazard, calling Vergo his partner, and with the sad intonation of his voice He had nothing to gain by saying it, nor was anyone listening, so I feel like he really meant it.
@@GourSmith he is, not in personality, but design wise he’s a 100% based on Eminem. It’s confirmed by Oda as well as Sanji being based on Steve Buscemi in Reservoir Dogs, Jango is based on Steven Tyler, or the Vice Admirals are based on Japanese actors. In fact, tons of characters are based on real life people, either from history to pop culture references. Not all of them are confirmed obviously but it’s not hard to spot the likenesses.
@@HellusRaizen for normal people in that world it very much is, it’s only the outliers that are absurdly tall and those are some of the most feared beings in that world
I think you put into words what a lot of people felt about Doffy. He earns the moniker of Joker, in more ways than one. It also helped me understand his defining feature; his sunglasses. If the eyes are a window to the soul, behind those glasses there is no soul. He is not human for one. He's a godly monster (or a Celestial Demon, if you will). And once Luffy breaks through his strings, he cracks the glasses, and reveals that he's not god nor monster, but mere man.
Doffy is not only all of the things mentioned in this video, but also a gear that has connections to a lot of major factions across the One Piece world. If any other Warlord died etc. , it mattered to a handful of People at most. Doffy made the World addicted to him.
Doflamingo is an incredibly captivating villain, and I wouldn't be surprised if Oda wasn't done with him yet. People most often notice the people with the greatest power, e.g. Whitebeard, Kaido, Big Mom, etc. The characters with supreme power act differently than the characters like Doflamingo who are just a step from supreme power. Not once do you see Kaido ask one of his men to die for him. That's because he knows he has the power to carry everything by himself. Doflamingo is acutely aware of his own vulnerabilities and doesn't hesitate to use his crew as sacrificial pawns. The desperation to reach that highest tier of power drives Doflamingo to do some truly terrifying things.
great video doflamimgo is an amazing and very interesting character the only problem with corazon's argument is that doffy was raised by trebol corazon by sengoku so of course even though they have similar traumas they didn't suffer the same throughout adolescence and adulthood
One interesting thing about Doflamingo is that even tho he is a manipulator he doesn't escapes the fact that he is also been manipulated by trebol by just been himself. By dofflamingo been "free" he unintentionally got cough on Trebols trap and even tho that means that trebols serves dofflamingo it doesnt matter since he is doing everything trebols wants.
I’m rewatching Jaya and I came across Doflamingo’s first appearance, he used his devil fruit power to control other (I’m pretty sure👉) higher ranked Navy officers of different countries to kill eachother, and potentially, start a war between them. The fact that Doffy could so easily start a war between other peoples’ nations’ like it’s nothing is deadass terrifying
Doflamingo is one of my favorite characters in One Piece, because of how real he is. Sadly I really related to him at one point. My childhood trauma caused me to be cruel and bitter. I lied and manipulated people for gain. Luckily I found a good friend and family that straighten me out. I'm not sure if it's ever been mentioned, but I bet Doflamingo wears sunglasses to hide his eyes because it's the easiest way to read someone's heart/soul. I used to do the same thing(some times with hair or glasses) because I didn't want people to see the hate and anger just under the skin.
This sudden burst of One Piece content is great from you. I''m actually kind of in a One Piece drought RN since I've been caught up on anything and everything One Piece.
I have to disagree on Doflamingo's view of his crew / family. He was shown multiple times to make unoptimal decisions to save a family member. He might have a toxic relationship with all of those he considers family, but it's still just as real. The second thing I disagree is that doflamingo garners sympathy because of his backstory. It's because for how evil he is, he still has his own rules and morals.
I agree. Doesn't he get in the way of an attack meant for Trebol? I think that Doflamingo's backstory makes him sympathetic, but I agree that there are more aspects than just "he had a bad childhood".
5:04 I've never seen you before, You just convince me to subscribe. You're the 1st person who has mentioned dophie's most terrifying power, hIs mind and tung. The ability to throw someone off their base or manipulate nippulate how they see things it's extremely underrated underrated by the fambas.
Awesome video and I love that there's still discussion about Doffy. He's my favourite One Piece character by far, but I equally understand why he is hated by many. Though I love your interpretation, I feel like you were missing some important points. While it is absolutely true that Doffy is a master manipulator and essentially uses everyone around him for his own gain, there is a twisted tragedy to this side of him. He is undoubtedly extremely traumatised by his past and, unlike Corazon who was taken in by Sengoku, never had the chance to actually heal from it. Every character with a tragic backstory usually has a positive mentor figure who shows them that there's good in the world. That wasn't the case for Doffy, instead he became a victim of Trebol who used his trauma to shape him into the monster we know him as today. In many ways, Doffy is just as manipulated as every other member in his crew. I also feel like the whole "family" thing is a huge coping mechanism for Doffy, because he clearly cares for the people he actually considers his "family", at least to a certain degree. I think Doffy is a very complicated character to discuss and there probably isn't one right way to interpret his character. I just love the attention to detail Oda put into him and that after all these years he's still a relevant character because his impact on the series as a whole was just huge.
I love your points regarding Bellamy and Law. Doflamingo is such an interesting character. I didnt see it before but after this video it makes total sense that doffy's power is in his words the first few times we see him the manga its him giving iconic speeches like "the new age is coming" and "whoever wins is justice" he was always characterized as an eloquent and effective speaker its just his ability is taken to a sinister level when we get to his arc where he shows the readers his own brand of oppressions and authorities governance just like how Crocidile's mistrust of people is reflected in how baroque works operates strictly with code names, doffy's talent of manipulation is reflected in the ppl doffy has gathered to work for him: (like u mentioned) baby 5, bellamy, law, etc
I'm glad that it seems like you enjoy One Piece for a multitude of reasons. What characters do you personally connect with or really enjoy watching throughout the story?
The most terrifying thing in the Dressrosa arc for me is not Doflamingo: it's SUGAR and her powers. Imagine being trapped in a toy body that moves against your will, unable to express yourself through words or gestures. Imagine being forced into slave labor until your body gives out and you can't move anymore, and then thrown into a dumpster, never to be seen again, forever trapped in that broken body (even a release of death is denied to you, as that body has no need to feed and doesn't age). And worst of all, imagine going through all that despair while knowing that no one will ever help you, because you were erased from everyone's minds, including the minds of those who enslaved you. Getting ripped to shreds inside Doffy's string cage sounds heavenly by comparison. There are, indeed, fates far worse than death.
Your One Piece videos are high class. Love the sense of humour, editing, and love put into these videos, really refreshing amongst One Piece content nowadays
Analysis videos like this that are so well considered and so well written make me feel my understanding grow in realtime, thank you so much for making this so I can love this story even more deeply! :D
Doflamingo has scared me all the way back in the pre-Skypiea Arc. I never understood it until the Dressrosa Arc. This video only amplifies why I'm terrified of a man like him. No, a person like him.
You make a great case for why I shouldn't, but I do sympathize with him. I can't help it as no one should go through what he did, but I'll never forgive him or feel bad about his ultimate fate. Not so long as I can still remember a little toy soldier holding the woman he loves as she bleeds out and doesn't remember him, unable to even feel her warmth drain or even shed tears of his own in sorrow(Seriously, one piece is great at creating unique hells, that could be a video).
He was a mystery since 2002 and we actually saw him be strong that he could stand up to whitebeards and laugh at them in 2012. It was way hype himself as the last warlord.
This was a very good video! There are too many Doffy fans who try to justify his actions/be overly empathizing of him so I like hearing your explanations for why you don't empathize & I agree. Another thing, I've always been a bit confused as to the purpose Doffys backstory plays, but I think you helped me connect the dots better so thank you. I'd love to watch a video about Corazon and Law, or any OP topic really. (Gonna check your other vids later!)
Doflamingo's dad was really irresponsible in what he did, let's ignore for a moment that there were other options to do what he wanted to do, he didn't just go down alone, he dragged his hole family with him, of course he didn't want to, of course he was a good man, but from Doflamingo's point of view, a person who still had to be taught a lot of things about life and morals and most importantly, a child, the things he did and the way in which he grew up are understandable, to me more understandable than Corazon betraying him
yeah homing outright told doffy that he had to be taught anew meaning he wasnt taught any different from the other CD's and people go cora was raised as a CD as well but besides the fact doffy is older doffy and cora have different personalities while doffy is more extroverted and would likely hang out with the other CD's rocinante image of him as a kid was clinging to his parents which makes me think that he stuck with his parents more often.
Exactly! Homing was perhaps a "good person", but he was still entitled enough to think that the people they enslaved would welcome them with open arms. Also, isn't it contradictory how his family apparently always owned slaves, given how Doffy reacts? It makes Homing's decision even more pretentious and probably the most "Celestial Dragon" thing to do. Doffys hate for his father is perfectly reasonable.
His father made a huge mistake revealing to the normal people that him and his family were former CDs and how want to live a normal life with the townspeople. He should have known that many normal people have huge gruges and justified reasons to despise CDs.
The great thing about One Piece is that you will always have something to talk about. People's dreams, and people's videos on One Piece, will never end! Anyway, Doflamingo, or Do-Filet-Mignon as I endearingly refer to him, is an absolute madman who is pretty entitled to have fallen off of his rocker so hard. I hope he returns and somehow became strong enough to be relevant
@@wikansaktianto9215 I meant relevant strength wise; Dressrosa Doflamingo is getting folded by post-Wano Sanji. Nami with Zeus miiiiiiiiiight be able to beat Dressrosa Doflamingo; I'm not confident in her tho. Lore wise, Doflamingo is always relevant lol, from post-Alabasta all the way to now
I'd say Doffy may actually be the most evil of all One Piece characters, he is basically The Joker of the franchise. While most of the other villains either wanted to take over a Kingdom (Crocodile, Kaido, or in the case of Blackbeard, The World), get rich quick (Kuro) or maintain law and order/cling on to Power (Gorosei, most of the marines, Wapol), Doflamingo just wanted to 'watch the world burn'. No real purpose behind it - he's just evil for the sake of being evil. That is why he can't be reasoned with like any of the other villains.
I cried so much when I read the chapter with Corazon’s death, I avoided the episode when it finally got animated. I legit had to wait like a year before I watched it.
I never stopped to think about it, but I hate that I can mildly relate to Doflamigo. I was a older, but still a child when my parents made a decision I feel was very irresponsible. it involved them quitting jobs and moving to another part of the state, and that decision has led to us being in a, lets say not so favorable position when it comes to money and being to care for ourselves. We moved so my Dad could run a restaurant, something he's always wanted to do. but because of his disdain for his job and desires, he jumped at an opportunity without hesitation not knowing what he was actually getting into. to make a long story short. My uncle bought a cafe and offered my dad a job. But the previous owner withheld the fact he owed back taxes on the cafe and it shut down only after two years. Now nearly 16 years later we live in a shitty house that costs more than it should and were struggling. Now to come back to Doflamingo and me. through no action of his own he went through some terrible shit, and many people can, myself included understand what thats like. No matter my adamant protests to not wanting to move, I was utterly ignored. And unlike Doflamingo, My parents still think their decision was completely okay and it pisses me off to no end. But here's were my sympathies for Doflamingo end. while It is my parents actions that have put me where I am right now, its still my fault I haven't attempted to improve my situation. I can get mad at them for the initial choice, at the end of the day as a grown man now, its my fault im still here. I could have done better in school or a many myriad of things to leave but I haven't. Doflamingo can place blame wherever he wants, but the here and now is solely on him. I'm aspiring to be an author and this line of thinking inspired a character and one of his quotes is one of my favorite things i've written and I think it works well for Doflamingo. "Many never get to chose their starting line. But what happens in their race and how it ends is theirs to chose."
Don’t underestimate how much a job you hate can drain you mentally as well as physically. I mean, ever since I was a kid I wanted to become an illustrator. Yet at 42 I still haven’t reached that goal. My job pays the bills but after 16 years of mindnumbing work I can tell you I’m completely creatively drained. If I even have the energy to draw, which isn’t often these days, the best I can do is some fanart shit. And that just leads to more negativity and self-doubt. I basically feel trapped with no way to go. So I can definitely empathise with your parent’s decision. I mean, if you had a family and you support them with a job that pays the bills, but sucks the life out of you, and then you get your chance to fulfill your dream of becoming an author, wouldn’t you take that chance? Even at the risk of being worse off later on? Would that choice feel irresponsible? I get what you’re saying absolutely, actions have consequences but unless you have been in the same position, your anger, although certainly understandable from where you’re standing, is a bit misplaced. I’m sure your parents didn’t just make that decision on a whim and thought about it long and hard weighing off the pros and cons before their final decision. Yes, responsibility for your family’s well-being is key, but when you feel trapped in your job, a way out gets very tempting no matter the consequences. (Of course, I’m projecting my own situation on this. I have no idea if your parents were that unhappy with their jobs but if they maintain that they made the right call, I suspect that there was a big issue at play there).
This reminds me someone needs to do an in-depth video on One Piece fashion - which is fabulous & wild. Would like an video about Tra & Luffy's fight with Doflamingo. Doflamingo is so much Law's personal devil to overcome, he'll surely show up again.
This is old news by now but once Doflamingo was captured by the world government something bone chilling is telling me that he wanted to get caught on purpose.
they are probably gonna try to keep him locked the hardest because he has wayyy too much information and he probably intends to reveal it now that the government is against him so I think he’s gonna break out
I love the One Piece direction your channel is going, despite having stuck around cuz of GX (no, Im not kidding). If anything, I'd love to see your opinionpiece on the conflicts in One Piece, like how the villains change the tone of the series, or maybe the 'island is in peril and Luffy needs to fix it like never before'-loop. Also, very fun video, kudos
Interesting contrast between Law believing the family lie of Doffy (and thus making it difficult for him to go against his "mentor") considering that Doffy just kills his "family" without a care in the world. I like it, it shows that Law is NOT part of his lie, he IS sensitive to others and not a psycho like him. That's what takes them apart. Law not being able to kill him doesn't make him weak, it makes him stronger, as a human being, which is why Luffy is his ally in the 1st place and what makes him (they) ultimately win the fight
I just finished reading Dressrosa arc, and when I was reading it, when Doffy said something like "You have no idea how my life was" I imagined. Wow, ok... So Oda is kinda saying that his story is as traggic as Luffy and Law's. But when I actually saw his past, I was confused. Like, I felt no empathy for him (honestly I was kinda being pushed by emotions seeing the angry mob saying all the things the tenryuubitos have done to them and remembering sabaody and fisherman island arc), but I was feeling that something was wrong. So I realized exactly what you pointed out in the video when I met Corazon. He had the SAME life as Doffy, but he probably learned something from it, how the world and families that the own tenryuubitos have destroyed are, and on the other hand, doflamingo was only mad and feeling a victim. I'm glad I could analize his character correctly while I was reading and not falling into his mannipulation game...
Just found your channel recently and I already love it here. Your analysis is so good and the way you talk is so fricking funny lmaooooo you are truly comedy fr
Just wanted to add something that im not sure if you thought of. by no means do I think doflamingo is a good person or that I buy into his whole pity party. HOWEVER, I think by comparing corazon's outcome vs doflamingo your missing out on a whole lot. One, siblings who grow up in trauma dont always cope the same. Different coping makes different people. Two, doflamingo is older than corazon. though a two year age gap doesn't seem like that big of a difference, it is. Especially when it comes to children. two years can be the difference in setting core values and morals in children. three, corazon was saved by sengoku who became a positive influence on corazon and gave him a home and place to belong. What did doflamingo get? a creepy group of people who groom him into a dangerous individual and fuel his sadistic side. by no means do I think someone as selfish and unsympathetic as doflamingo deserves much sympathy, but by no means was doflamingo evil by nature. he was created by circumstance and influence. To me comparing the two's outcomes is like wondering why two siblings from an abusive home aren't the same when one got therapy and the other was told to fend for themself. of course, one is less well-rounded and well-adjusted than the other. Was a great listen! just thought i'd add my two cents.
That reminds me of how I never liked that Rosinante called Doflamingo a monster outright. I mean, I can understand him having that opinion, but I feel like we didn't see enough of Doflamingo at the time, or how he interacted with Rosi to make it feel like that wasn't an opinion that Oda wanted us to take as fact.
@@mastermarkus5307 I mean doflamingo IS a monster. Cora knows this, however i think the most important take away is that he was a MADE monster. He didnt spawn that way (not in my opinion at least) I think that's what's so compelling about doflamingo. He is evil. he does evil things. But i think to say he was born that way is dismissing so many influences, not to mention he also lacked positive influences he looked toward. With the exception of his mother, who was there? Besides, he would be far less compelling of a villain if he was inherently just evil to begin with. He is interesting because (though we may not agree with his reasoning) we can see the progression how he got from a to b. Lacking that, his character would be quite the villain, sure, but far less human of a monster. He is compelling, because he is still human. Thats what makes him all the more horrifying.
The contrast of how Corazon’s backstory worked with Law’s, it shows a different path and life that Law has. He was pretty much destined to end up as a new Doflamingo. Instead, Corazon saved him from the same hell they both endured.
Just gotta say cause I keep getting some comments about it, if you think I spoiled Wano within this video then boy won't you be surprised LMAO

An amazing love letter to Doffy
I mean a spoiler warning would have been super helpful seeing as this is a video about Doflamingo. Most would click on it for that reason
You did
Usopp killing Bakugo was one of the biggest moments in the whole show, can't believe you'd just throw it out there unflagged like that
I found it fascinating that his backstory was that of a victim of circumstance, yet he was also a jerk from the start.
So it's basically the perfect person at the right time huh? An angry jerk that's further "groomed" to be an even bigger jerk
@@r3medyproductionsYou're no better.
That whole paragraph reads like an Ao3 fanfiction.
In the Green Bit he also sits on him to restrain him instead of just holding him down with string
It always gave me sexual vibes.

Doflamingo is such a writing flex. It's so hard to make a sympathetic character unredeemable. He is a monster that we can completely understand.
“Doffy is not just a villain for Law, he’s a mentor”
I love that. This is proof of great character writing. The fact that their powers doesn’t exist in a vacuum is what makes a story. No doubt Law’s fruit is stronger or at least not as powerless as we saw him vs Doffy, but you got to remember the context for everything. This is not an FPS game.
Im confused, what do you mean exactly in saying “this isn’t an FPS?”

Also remember, doffy was older than cora, so he spent more time in the holy land.
I mean idk about that doffy was always nuts like him saying slaves are super awesome and screaming he was gonna murder everyone he tortured while rossinante didn’t do any of that
See their childhood, they were two opposite poles. Corazon took after his father while Doffy took after the Celestial Dragons.
Actually Doffy is kind of a chosen one a divine 10 years ruling a kingdom he what crocodile would have been like only without luffy in his way and he almost had immortality
Well at his end luffy the much more chosen one came😂
YOU WERE THE CHOSEN! THEY SAID YOU WERE THE ONE WHO’LL DESTROY THE SITH! NIT JOIN THEM!
I genuinely love how Dressrosa arc went on another level in terms of portraying emotionally scarred people, effects of trauma etc. You can tell that Law’s quiet, dull nature is the result of Doflamingo’s cruelty by manipulation.
I do emphasize with Doffy but I pretty much feel the same way I felt about Azula in "Avatar the last Airbender." When Zuko said to Iroh, "I know what you are going to say, she is my sister and I should be trying to get along with her."
Uncle Iroh replied with "No, she is crazy and needs to go down!"

2- Age: azula... she's 13, YEAH, she's 13... i know you can be bad even at a young age but between an adult and a literal child you just cannot compare.

So, between an adult mass murderer that kills with a completely clear mind and a child with serious mental problems who, to our knowledge, never killed anyone... the comparison isn't fair

It goes to show that the user is more threatening than the fruit itself
He's the *Master of Puppets!* Sorry, I had to!
It’s why he was able to awaken it. His personality synchronized so well with that of the fruit that they became one and the same.

Whether they’re dribbling snot, obsessed with art or toys, wearing their mom’s heels, etc., it’s all just a game to him. Holy shit you're cooking

I thought about this too, when I read him saying that in Marineford I was like “oh, this character is amazing”
Madara tier quote
Whoever prevails **_becomes_** JUSTICE!"*
He didn't mean there's no winner in war. He says in every war, justice prevails, because whoever prevails *becomes* justice.
Honestly given his background and history that speech was spoiling a huge part of the world government history right there.
The way law and Corozon had it was beautiful the way law heard him crying and then cried was so deep it made everyone sad
The funny thing about Doffy treating his entire crew like a tool is that he is one himself, as he was used and manipulated by Trebol.
Trebol got him started and maybe intended to use doffy but he clearly is subservient now.
@@TempestDacine Nah, he's just relinquished his lead role in the family to Doffy now so he can do less work whilst still benefiting from being one of the top 4 of the family under the guise of treating Doffy as his king.
Honestly, I believe Doffy has some level of affection for his "family"... we can see that in the farewell he gave Vergo on Punk Hazard, calling Vergo his partner, and with the sad intonation of his voice
He had nothing to gain by saying it, nor was anyone listening, so I feel like he really meant it.
The fact that Enel is literally based on Eminem makes Skypia the best arc
Skypiea is basically: what if "Rap God" was not just a name and Eminem went mental over it ?
There's actually a character song sung by Enel that sounds like a bad rip off of Lose Yourself by Eminem
I don't know Eminem demeanor enough, but he does look like the person to have power over people just like Enel xD
He’s quite literally not “based on Eminem” at all 🤦♂️. The goofiness 😂
I mean he’s 10 feet tall to me he’s already terrifying for that alone
Thats not tall in OP world
@@HellusRaizen for normal people in that world it very much is, it’s only the outliers that are absurdly tall and those are some of the most feared beings in that world
I think you put into words what a lot of people felt about Doffy.
A heartless man but a mere nonetheless
The Heavenly Demon Doflamingo
Formerly known as yo momma.
ooooor maybe the fires made his eyes fucked up as a kid
One of my favorite things about one piece is the heavy amounts of symbolism that oda creates in these kinds of scenes.
1:01 I feel bad for actually laughing out loud at that, at like 2AM
What makes him even more terrifying is his scary levels of drip
If the One piece villain doesn’t have a couple thousand war crimes under his belt is he really a villain
great video
doflamimgo is an amazing and very interesting character
the only problem with corazon's argument is that
doffy was raised by trebol
corazon by sengoku
so of course even though they have similar traumas
they didn't suffer the same throughout adolescence and adulthood
Her:”Why doflamingo is terrifying!”
Him:committing almost every single crime there ever existed
me:I think we all know why😅

I've never seen you before, You just convince me to subscribe.
You're the 1st person who has mentioned dophie's most terrifying power, hIs mind and tung.
The ability to throw someone off their base or manipulate nippulate how they see things it's extremely underrated underrated by the fambas.
I’m always so impressed by your essays videos. Thank you for making them!! I’ve been having a lot of fun watching them.
man, i would love to see you do a video on Crocodile, since he's essentially the Doflamingo of the first half and is often contrasted against him
Awesome video and I love that there's still discussion about Doffy.
I didnt see it before but after this video it makes total sense that doffy's power is in his words
the first few times we see him the manga its him giving iconic speeches like "the new age is coming" and "whoever wins is justice"
he was always characterized as an eloquent and effective speaker
its just his ability is taken to a sinister level when we get to his arc where he shows the readers his own brand of oppressions and authorities governance
just like how Crocidile's mistrust of people is reflected in how baroque works operates strictly with code names, doffy's talent of manipulation is reflected in the ppl doffy has gathered to work for him: (like u mentioned) baby 5, bellamy, law, etc
"I know he's a red flag but red is my favorite color" I love him as a character my fav OP villain for sure, thank you for this
I'm glad that it seems like you enjoy One Piece for a multitude of reasons. What characters do you personally connect with or really enjoy watching throughout the story?
You are by far my favourite OP TH-camr. It somehow feels a bit like you encapsulate the vibe of the Anime in your Videos, great work
You can sympathize with what led him to be this way but you can't sympathize with his actions in the now
The most terrifying thing in the Dressrosa arc for me is not Doflamingo: it's SUGAR and her powers.
This video was really good! You actually reminded that Doflamingo is a rather really scary villain, and how much love I have for Corazon.
I love your editing style, the memes are all on point!

Your One Piece videos are high class. Love the sense of humour, editing, and love put into these videos, really refreshing amongst One Piece content nowadays
Sanji was the villain of fishman island. Bro was a menace
He might not the strongest, but he's the best villain. He loves control as he's one of celestial dragon
Doflamingo's dad was really irresponsible in what he did, let's ignore for a moment that there were other options to do what he wanted to do, he didn't just go down alone, he dragged his hole family with him, of course he didn't want to, of course he was a good man, but from Doflamingo's point of view, a person who still had to be taught a lot of things about life and morals and most importantly, a child, the things he did and the way in which he grew up are understandable, to me more understandable than Corazon betraying him
They r so ignorant they dk how ppl feel abt them
yeah homing outright told doffy that he had to be taught anew meaning he wasnt taught any different from the other CD's and people go cora was raised as a CD as well but besides the fact doffy is older doffy and cora have different personalities while doffy is more extroverted and would likely hang out with the other CD's rocinante image of him as a kid was clinging to his parents which makes me think that he stuck with his parents more often.
@@victorthevictorian The father was kind hearted, but a narcisist and naive too
His father made a huge mistake revealing to the normal people that him and his family were former CDs and how want to live a normal life with the townspeople. He should have known that many normal people have huge gruges and justified reasons to despise CDs.
Im actually so attached to doffy its a toxic relationship i love him so much
Same, my friend 😂 And my husband feeds into it, he even got me a Doflamingo statue for my birthday this year.
He is relevant even back in Jaya..

@@wikansaktianto9215 Why is it a problem?

That's a nice name
What that means tho
Thank you! Sick of seeing people defend how Doffy behaves when he’s an adult
good for you
Don’t underestimate how much a job you hate can drain you mentally as well as physically.
This makes me wish Kaido had gotten a more detailed backstory.
Also wow the editing in this video is cracking me up every 10 seconds lol
I fell in love with him when he said “ you’ll hear children, women and men screaming” and that’s when I knew he was a menace
As some one who got to one piece late, doffy definitely lives up to the hype once you reach dressrosa
He gives toxic hot boyfriend vibes😂
MelonTeee: Friendship ended with Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece is my best friend.
More like Doflamingo Family
When I was watching the Dressrosa arc, all I could think was, "Doflamingo is just throwing the world's biggest temper tantrum."
That scene with law and Cora makes me tear up everytime
It's fun to watch people study characters under a microscope the same way they would a cool bug, probably my favorite thing
This was an amazing character breakdown.
Crocodiles motivation wasn’t exactly to takeover, but was to find pluton
This reminds me someone needs to do an in-depth video on One Piece fashion - which is fabulous & wild.
Would like an video about Tra & Luffy's fight with Doflamingo. Doflamingo is so much Law's personal devil to overcome, he'll surely show up again.
This is old news by now but once Doflamingo was captured by the world government something bone chilling is telling me that he wanted to get caught on purpose.
where did u get ur pfp?
they are probably gonna try to keep him locked the hardest because he has wayyy too much information and he probably intends to reveal it now that the government is against him so I think he’s gonna break out
I love the One Piece direction your channel is going, despite having stuck around cuz of GX (no, Im not kidding).
You crossed the line, hating doflamingo is perfectly fine but you gotta respect the drip
Dunno what's wrong with my humor but I laughed when Doflamingo appeared behind Law
There’s nothing wrong with your humor, you’re 💯 okay
Thanks
What an interesting analysis.. and great presentation. Your emphasis’ are sort of intense. Your language is rhythmic. Thank you for sharing.
He's always been quite fascinating his laugh is one I love to copy it's far too good!
The contrast of how Corazon’s backstory worked with Law’s, it shows a different path and life that Law has. He was pretty much destined to end up as a new Doflamingo. Instead, Corazon saved him from the same hell they both endured.
