the thing about cheep stuff, you can mod it the way you want and not feel too bad, in the center area you could also try some other type of teeth or add more, drill out the holes and thread retap. so the center is better for trees and the sides are better for the ground.
That's the truth. I looked into teeth holders and they're about $100 each not including the teeth. I may stick a few more on there but I'm worried about trying to get it balanced afterwards.
Keep with the belt type drives, they prevent snapping shafts better than shear pin type set ups if something jams up. You could get thicker cog belt if it’s slipping/snapping but need to be careful not to move the weakest link to the pump shaft or drum shafts by changing to a stronger belt. An effective “happy medium “ may be to get longer belt and add a HEAVY DUTY spring loaded tensioner to help absorb higher shock loads if you get in to that area of need.
Also, you want that push bar to take the force rather than the drum, if you hit something you can’t push over and mulch, you’re beyond capacity of mulched and skid steer, the bigger trees, you’re better off to drop em with chainsaw and then mulch them, those blocks on one side of drum are likely just weights placed to balance the shaft, I’ve modified these things for some land clearing jobs we did, adding teeth, you’ll want to have the drum re-balanced, I take them to a a driveline shop that balances driveshafts…..cheap insurance.
What's it typically run to have them balanced ? I'm really considering welding a few more teeth to the center of the drum. I used it the other day and I found it's easiest with the way it's setup now to just ease in and move side to side like you're running a stump grinder to cut through the trunk. I tried a GoPro mount on my head for this next video but the footage sucks lol there's a before and after though that gives you a good idea of how it worked out.
Swap the hoses and it should spin backwards. Can't harm anything. If you mark the top section as to the location of the teeth it should also help. Good luck.😊
I thought about that, as long as I can flip the teeth without any problems I might do that. I also thought about welding more teeth on but the tooth holders are pretty dang expensive unless I just cut a bunch of 1"x" blocks and drill them out to take the teeth.
It's actually mounted the right way but I think I'm going to cut the rear bars so they're shorter and about flush with the entry of the teeth on the drum.
@@hollowaysgarage9332 no, it’s technically on backwards. There designed to push the tree over as the drum engages the tree. I’ve always ran Fecon, FAE and what I’ve learned if you’re going into a big brush pile if you will tilt the head all the way back they won’t hang up so easy.
I'm going to send it in the woods and see how she does. Worse comes to worse I can swap pumps but I'm hoping to have a track machine with high flow this year at some point.
@hollowaysgarage9332 iv looked into that drum before and saw how the teeth where done on it was nuts. But what blows me away is that little belt like that thing is hanging on for dear life lol. Idk much about pullys but would changing the pully size do better to save money then a pump
@@dakotak8437 the fact the teeth are so spaced is probably the only reason it doesn't stop with standard flow. I'm going to try and get a belt from Napa to have on hand. That things waiting to break haha
@@hollowaysgarage9332 most definitely. And who ever welded that up you can tell either didn't care or was bad bc thos big blocks on the right side of the drum shows how out of balance it is they should be that big and should be smaller and at least some small ones on there side that's bad. And idk if it's just me but some of them teeth looked a little crooked on there placements
@ lol definitely.. hopefully the bearings arent sealed! .. They recommend us to use hand pumps to, so we bought their hand pump guns, cause they make sure to theor tubes are different then normal tubes of grease.. screw into the handpump lol It did not bad though, sounds like the machine has more pressure to give but the couplers maybe small. Just dont hit rocks, and make sure to have spare teeth, to replace the broken ones so it stays balanced
You’re spot on about the teeth. Obviously there shouldn’t be those huge gaps.
Turn the big black bracket to the vee shape is away from the cabin.

What they are listing as flow is actually pressure 21 mpa equals about 3000psi

Yes definitely would rather blow belts than anything else haha
worked way better than I thought it would! nice!
Yea not too shabby. I'll do a job with it and do a little video review on it and see how she holds up.

Been thinking of adding one thanks
Glad I could help. I'll have another video up soon after using it for a small job.
@@hollowaysgarage9332 Tighten up
Whoever manufactures that jacket use this in there advertisement because when it got spat out at the 25:14 mark it still looked wearable 😅
🤣 it's the one I'm wearing in the video... Just kidding that was some geotextile fabric haha

The push bar is backwards and two far forward

Agreed. It wouldn't let the drum engage the trees

I agree .. the V shape is to direct the trees and brush towards the center of the mulching head.
Thanks for the video!
How much is it ?
Where do you buy it?
Sure thing ! I got it and at auction. They're typically $5-6k or so plus auction fees.
Where did you purchase it and how much are they?
You can find them at alot of auctions. For 5-6k usually
Awesome 😎
Thank you! Cheers buddy!
How did the belt do?
I haven't looked at it yet I'm going to mulch up some cedar behind my shop tomorrow. I'll video it and do an update on the belt and all for ya
@@hollowaysgarage9332 Thank You
The blades are not staged or staggered.
it is NOT a pump it is a motor
Sorry should’ve waited
You can always add additional teeth!
She needs more power
Yes this standard flow 74hp barely gets by with it. Just gotta use some finesse and she's alright I guess.
I'd change the pump to better fit that machine
