Definitely a shop vac or other vacuum cleaner. No need for a vacuum pump because even the densest clay like Red Clay or Delft Clay are still not compact enough to require much suction like is needed in investment casting, plus the vacuum is used in place of the vents so air and gases can be removed.
I had the same thought during the pour.
