I can't get this to work on RetroPie. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Would love to put it on my arcade cab
All I know is this requires a modified version of MAME, so if you're using the regular version, it won't work. That said, I know nothing about RetroPie specifically, so I'll leave this comment pinned for now and hopefully someone else can help you out.

Final Fight was the best thing to ever happen in '89 besides the San Francisco earthquake.
1989 was an amazing year for arcade beat'em ups/hack n slash games. Final Fight, TMNT The Arcade Game, Golden Axe, Strider. This was pretty much the end of Double Dragon being an arcade favorite.
We desperately need Capcom to release a 3 player version of Final Fight! Hell! Maybe even an anthology alongside that with Final Fight 2 and 3
We all need that, and also releasing Final Fight 4
I been asking for years about why Capcom hasn't done this yet.

The new energy bars placement is top notch! well done. It really feels like a complete game now. I'd probably just ditch the timer altogether though, becasue I've never once paid attention to them when playing these sort of games, and they were only there as ways to make sure that more coins were put in the machines and to ensure the game was reset if a player walked away mid play.
It would be cool if they could include a power-up item that adds more timer seconds to the clock...

This is how it should've been decades ago from its first release on arcade. Still love this game.
Shure it could've been possible, but Capcom just wasn't thinkin' on those terms back then since there weren't a whole lotta 3 or 4 player games in the arcades back in the late 80's.

I had a really crazy dream last night featuring this 3 Player Final Fight only hours after I heard about it. Hard to get into specifics, but I was seeing it as if I was playing the game itself and it was balls-to-the-wall. Lots of additional enemies, stages rearranged and really fleshed out, and lots of new brutal shit like having to fist fight a TANK CARRIER and having heroes and enemies getting instant-killed by getting hit by subway trains that made you feel sorry for everyone in that mess in general.
And it's not the first holy-shit! dream of Final Fight I've had within 4 months. It's becoming a recurring dream thing and I don't know why.

Since 2 years ago, many times I did do search about this version (the 3 players in the same time) I remember when I was with my father in the Arcade rooms watching this game ... and really I am wondered why there was not available this version in youtube .... huge thanks for this video!
This rom hack that lets 3 people play at the same time only came out this month, which is why you wouldn't have found anything before.

Impossible, I am sure of that, because in the same arcade room there was available the two games ... and I spent many minutes watching the games ... and I remember perfectly each OST for each game ... of course that for FF1 was a bootleg version

I felt that the 3-to-4 player feature for this game and the streets of rage games were always missing.
Did y'all know final fight was actually supposed to be street fighter 2? That's the reason the car and barrel bonus stages and FF characters are in different street fighter games.
Street Fighter '89, not necessarily a sequel but an offshoot. And they realised before release they wanted to make a real sequel so using the same name seemed like a mistake.
No it wasn't. It was Street Fighter in name only, and the Car stage appeared in Final Fight first. It was the same development team that made Final Fight and The World Warrior (just those two games) so they obviously recycled ideas.

Then i realized it was a hack, and instead of being disappointed...i was shocked of what we've done...
They can prolly still do more with further hacking... Just give it some time.
Controversial opinion: Final Fight One on GBA plays better. Been playing both back to back on my phone (using a controller) and One is faster and more responsive. I LOVE the arcade version, I remember seeing it for the first time in Heathrow airport when I was 7 or 8 and having my mind blown. But I prefer playing Final Fight One these days, despite the half-assed use of SNES assets. The gameplay is great. And the sound effects don't keep cutting out like in the original. They even restored the use of sound effects that were present in the sound test but not heard in game.
Which sound effects are you talking about?
Final Fight One is what the SNES version really should've been back in 1991... Seeing how home console releases usually include additional modes and content; it would've made perfect sense to release THAT version instead, but they failed to do so due to hardware limitations + cartridge manufacturing costs back then and just pure lazy-ass corner-cutting. If those weren't really the deciding factors back then, I really do believe that they could've at least included all 3 selectable characters + 2-player support on the original SNES version.
I recall most people making it to the Sodom in the arcade and having to pop those quaters in 😅 He's a bit easier on the SNES, but in the Arcade I always found him somewhat tricky. I'm not sure if it's the bull rush or his blood meter being a little more potent 😁

It is a good idea considering,the arcade game can handle a lot of sprites on screen. I hope this mode can also be applied to that japanese hack that lets you play as the enemies and some of the bosses.

The definitive way to play Final Fight, no question. If Capcom had made it this way back in 1989, it sure would’ve been a bigger competitor to TMNT, as they both would’ve been multiplayer, with TMNT’s 4P mode and FF’s 3P mode.

I’ve never played this but my older brothers swore by this game and it really looks like fun. Looks eerily similar to Streets of rage at least the 2nd and 3rd one. Loved me some beat em ups

I can't state this as fact, but this is a possible answer I found on another website.
Q] Why does Guy beat up Cody in the ending?
A] Contrary to popular belief, Guy did not beat down his friend because he was jealous that he got the girl. The actual reason is, however, is that Guy was so shocked that Cody didn't stop when Jessica called his name -the entire point of them going on this quest was to save her, so Cody could at least talk to her afterwards. So Guy knocked down Cody to make him stop, letting Jessica catch up with him. Also, Guy wouldn't be jealous as it's revealed in Final Fight 2 that he has a girl of his own anyway.

I can imagine that Andore was renamed to Hugo because Capcom didn't have the rights to the likeness of Andre the Giant.
Kinda connected the dots after seeing Hugo in the Street Fighter series. A lot of the Final Fight characters migrated over to Street Fighter, it seems... Guy, Cody, Hugo, Poison, Rolento, Abigail... but why not Haggar? Too busy kickin' ass in Marvel vs Capcom?

You think by now someone would be able to to take off attacking partner period.
It's possible, but they just need more time to hack it even further... I personally would really like to see even more enemies onscreen, more breakable containers in each stage, and weapons that NEVER disappear even if you drop them!

However it would have been even more enjoyable if when the game first came out in the nineteen nineties that the actual video arcade game machines would have been made with controls for all three players instead of two!

The Capcom Beat Em Up Bundle includes the original arcade version of this game, which is the best one to play. Not the substandard SNES port. The Sega CD port is good though, with a cool original soundtrack!
