When I was watching One day at a time I legit thought she was like 65. I was shook when I saw her age.
I worked as a tourist guide in Costa Rica a couple of years ago, and one of my customers was her grandson. She send me a picture of her with her autograph tank you me for taking care of her grandson... What a nice person she is.
87 looks like shes in her 60s. That is amazing. Goes to show why you should always take care of yourself.

She could legit live to 110. Can't recall seeing anyone her age so healthy, she's 87 but feels so much younger! My grandma is 87 and she feels like a woman her age. Rita looks and sounds like she could be 65-70. She's agile, can walk independently without any issues, her hearing is perfect, her mind seems very bright. Insane.

Amazing. If anyone still hasn’t seen her ‘Anita’ in the original West Side Story movie (1961) do so now. She steals that movie. It’s a true powerhouse performance for which she earned her Oscar. It’s s real shame that it wasn’t a springboard to many more performances in big movies. Latinas were not mainstream in America then. I love her still.

I just recently found out she was on Singin’ in the Rain! (Zelda Zanders) I was so shocked because One Day at a Time is my favorite show and Singin’ in the Rain is my favorite movie! Crazy!

I've only ever really seen Rita in West Side Story or in interviews so would imagine there is a lot more of her work to look forwards to. She is such a special person as a fabulous performer.

Plus, wasn't she like the only actual Puerto Rican actor in a named role in West Side Story, a film about Puerto Rican people? Maria was played by an actress of Russian and Ukrainian descent, Bernardo was played by an actor of Greek descent, the actor who played Chino was of Filipino descent. But Anita was played by this amazing, beautiful, talented Puerto Rican actress. And it was the role that made her the first Latina woman to ever win an Oscar.
