It's mostly about power to weight. Less mass requires less force to move around. That's just physics. Porsches answer to the gtr was specifically add more power and subtract more weight.

On a buying trip, I met up with a relative from the UK who had bought a GTR to add to his supercar collection (Ferrari, Porsche, etc.). He later told me the GTR destroyed them all and quickly became his favorite or, as he called it, "The full monty." 👌
True Story, in that year i visit the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. Next to the Museum is the Porsche Factory. And when we pass by an Nissan GTR drove out the Porsche Factory Gate. That was the first time if have ever see an GTR. Competion always makes you stronger, i Think that newer 911 would not be that good whitout the GTR.
Let's not forget that the R33 Skyline GT-R held the Nordschleife record at one point with a time of 7:59. It was the first production car to do a lap in under 8 minutes. I don't find it that surprising since Nissan has perfected the GT-R formula over the years. But I still think it's amazing that a Nissan can outperform a Porsche on a racetrack, what a time to be alive.
