The beginning wasn't a joke, or a mistake. It's supposed to show how she may seem happy on the outside (the words on the screen), yet how on the inside she's dying (what she's actually saying).
so im just going to share my opinion on this masterpiece of video. the little girl & the mature woman are one and the same person. the father of this girl took advantage of her, abused her. she's in this typical misused state of mind, where the victim think its her fault, she got in contact with such an abusive father (normally trustworthy humanbeing). so later - when shes mature and adult - she tries to forget the things that happened to her in her childhood. but she can't forget it, neither can she face and deal with it. so she tries to bury her own past, her own memories of her childhood - she tries to bury the younger version of herself - cause she is full of anger. this is seriously a masterpiece and i can 100% relate to it. however did this.. its the realest video i have ever seen on a metaphoric basis.
Omg and the part where she is being dragged and shoved in the car can represent how she forced herself to mature and be an adult faster than she’s supposed to
and she had been writing lies in the journal. They may have seen that first entry. Dear diary, why me? So then she wrote things that were the opposite. "Dont tell them anything, anything, please". She doesnt want her parents to know how scared she is.
a lot of people are saying the translations are wrong at the beginning of the video but what if that is the point and its suppose to mislead us on what the song is about
+Kennedy Byrdsong Yeah so I'm french and to me It's like...obvious ..it's the purpose, it's wasn't a "mistake" , everything that has been translated is the exact opposite of what she says at first I was like wtf and then I understood ;) Translation is different from what she's actually saying because I think she's pretending to be fine but she is cleary not....I think it's deeper than that but well basically it's that :)
I think that the kidnapper is her older self. Trying to save the memories she has as child only to realize that the only thing she can do to the memories is let them go.... Her parents have already killed her childhood, the kidnapper is just killing the memories...
Oh my god, the part at 2:48 is amazing. When I first saw it I assumed he was agitated because he was watching a report about how his daughter's missing, but then it showed that he was more worried about football than her kidnapping...amazing.
For those who are saying that the french is innacurate, it is supposed to be that way. The girl is really just saying the opposite of what she really feels so please stop commenting this even though I know some of you are putting this because everyone else did. It's really unnecessary honestly -_-. If you really knew french, I think you would put the pieces together and find that she said the exact opposite of what she said..she was being sarcastic.
+Aurelye venegas I'm french and the fact is that you just can't say : "J'ai jamais sentie si triste" for example, we say : "Je ne me suis jamais sentie si triste" or more currently " Je me suis jamais sentie aussi triste". And this is not the only problem : we don't say "mais c'est pas" there is no real translation for "but it's not" use as it is here at least we could say "mais c'est pas le cas" or "ça ne l'est pas" but "mais c'est pas" is just wrong. And finally "rattrape moi" at this place of the sentence is wrong too it should be "me rattrape". So what lots of people are saying is that the french is wrong because it is not in regard of the English translation, it's not difficult to understand that it's the opposite.
Nora Degrave I am french too but not entirely. I do see the mistakes and how even it's grammatically incorrect but I still managed to out the prices together to realize what she was saying even if it was wrong
+Nora Degrave it was purposely broken French because it was supposed to not be her native language, she probably learned it at school or something. She wrote and spoke her true feelings in French so her parents etc wouldn't understand her.

Brilliant. Just brilliant. The video is about letting go of painful memories and moving on into the present. The woman is reliving painful childhood memories and rewriting them in her head. The initial struggle between her and her past self depicts the struggle of letting go, and the part where her past self goes willingly, finally coming to terms with letting go. In the end, she buries away that part of herself that's still tied to the past once and for all. Powerful.
the actual translation is something along the lines of: 'dear diary, why me? i do not know what love is. i have never felt any other way but sad. if only life was like in the movies, but it's not. i wish someone came and took me soon before the only thing that's certain catches me: we're all going to die.'

But as it seems she can't get rid of it. But that's my interpretation.
the way he uses his voice at "we're gonna die, die, die..." and how the instrumental mixes with it evokes such a lost, empty and resigned feeling. it's crazy. i don't think i've ever heard a song capture the feeling of depression so accurately.
I genuinely agree so much with you, I listen to this song almost solely for that part because it's so fucking chilling. And the part at 0:26, the "we're all gonna die"/"im lucky to be alive" contradiction between what she's saying and what's being written, as well as that corrupted version of the beginning riff. It really sells the entire doomsday mindset that comes with depression and feeling hopeless.
I think that the girl realized that her family is horrible by watching tv and seeing how different her family is compared to the ones on the shows. So she prayed to God that people would kidnap her and give her a better life. The little girl is imagining the woman kidnapping her and then loving and caring for her, unlike her family. She doesn't want the cops to know anything so the kidnappers can successfully take her away. And in the end when they sing "I think I found love" he means that she found the love that her family never provided, with the kidnapper.
I think I found hell I think I found something I think I found something in my TV screen I think I found out that I have nothing That I have nothing in this place for me I watched it all in my head, perfect sense They'll take me from me my bed Leave everything that is worth a single cent and just take me instead That TV show I saw as I feel asleep Had me on both my knees Praying to whatever is in heaven please send me a felon And don't let the police know Anything, anything Don't tell them anything Anything, please Anything, anything Don't tell them anything Anything, please I think I can tell I think I can tell them Tell them they were made for me I'm thinking they'll know, know it already I'm thinking they'll know just about everything I bet they planned it all out Like the shows Went everywhere I go Walked into the store right behind me Stood in line right beside me and followed me to my home I'm sure they figured it out early on That I would never run That they could shoot but that's not fun 'Cause then they're killing their stolen son Anything, anything Don't tell them anything Anything, please Anything, anything Don't tell them anything Anything, please
Ehh... Guys I think the kidnapper is herself.. Like I think the little girls she is carrying around is just her past.. And the kidnaping just symbolises that her childhood was taken by her terrible parents or that she tries to save herself from them by ''kidnapning'' herself?.. And in the end she finally decides to burry her past (The scene shifts between her face and the girls with the memorries from their childhood) just a theory ;D
Yeah I think your right ! Especialy because of the words at the beginning, she's writing in her diary and she's thinking the contrary of what she's writing : Dear diary Why me ? I don't know what is love I have never felt so sad If only life was like movies But it's not I wish someone will take me Soon Before the only thing who's certain Catch me We're all going to die
for anyone confused about the beginning, what she was saying and what was being written were the exact opposite, it wasn't a mistake, it was done on purpose, to show how that girl is internally miserable, but externally she's "happy" and "grateful", it was meant to represent how she hides her true feelings, here's what she *really* said :" *dear diary, why me, i don't know what love is, i never felt this sad, if only life was like in the movies, but it's not, i hope someone comes to take me, soon, before the one thing that's certain, traps me, we will die* "
Juliette Hyuga I'm not sure- I mean they did say "whatever is in heaven please send me a felon and don't let the police know", I looked on that website that explained the meaning of words haha
+Justyszak if u watched the audio version of rip 2 my youth the little girl dancing she is the exact little girl of this video and rip 2 my youth is about a funeral maybe is not a coincidence
THIS SONG IS DEEP! the song is about a little girl who WANTS to be kidnapped. The beginning of the video starts with a French girl talking. The subtitles on the video are WRONG!! As a matter of fact, they are the exact opposite of what she is saying. First, she is NOT talking/Praying to God, she is writing in her diary. She does NOT say "Dear God" as the subtitles say. She says: "Chere Journal" which translates "Dear Diary." What she says (also the words written in the diary in the video): "Dear Diary - Why me? I am not loved. i have never felt so sad. If only it was like in the movies, but it's not. I want someone to take me. soon, the single thing that is certain is that i will catch my death." I definitely think the opening line is: "I think I found help" - The kid is referring to those who she hopes will come get her. She talks about: "They'll take me from me my bed, Leave everything that is worth a single cent and just take me instead..." The kid wants to be taken from their current situation. But mostly, the kid wants to be "wanted" by her new parents. With this line: "That they could shoot but that's not fun, 'Cause then they're killing their stolen son." The kid is saying the "felons" won't kill (hurt) him because what they really want is a child of their own. At the end of the video, the "new mom" is "burying" the "stolen son's" past. The child is not going there "voluntarily." But in the end is happy since the closing line is not "we're gonna die;" the ending line is "I think I found love..." This signifies the kid accepting the "new parents" and a rejection of the old life...
If you go and listen to their other songs, they are ALL DEEP! The lyrics are dark but they hold a lot of passion and emotion. The neighborhood is going to the HOTTEST BAND of this generation!!!
I have something to add. It's just a theory. I think the girl is imagining the whole thing. She says: "I watched it all in my head, perfect sense",so maybe it is the girl imagining it. "They'll take me from my bed" - future. It hasn't happened. "I think I found something in my tv screen." She maybe saw something on tv and it was just what she had always wished for, so she imagined being kidnapped by them. Also, the childishness of some things makes me think that it is just in her mind. She begs them (the kidnappers) not to tell the police, but 1. it is not the kidnappers who would have told the police 2. the police finding out is inevitable. She believes her kidnappers won't hurt her, which is something only an innocent child would believe. In the end, I think it is about a child who would do absolutely anything to escape the abuse, even go with any stranger that approaches her because she thinks it cannot be worse.
I can connect on such an emotional level with this song it makes me so... Emotional. I've dealt with depression and many other disorders and finding this song has me feeling recognized like someone actually understand what it's like to hate your life and want to be taken away. Thank you for this connection.
I'm crying because of how accurate this is. Everything is perfect. Lyrics, music video and text in the beginning. I love how The Neighbourhood make it real and show the fact how life could be.
When it comes to music, I'm oldschool. If someone would have asked me before listening to The Neighbourhood if I would like a new age band with members in their young 20's, I probably wouldn't even have given it a chance. But damn, I love every single Neighbourhood song. Shows why it's bad to think that way sometimes. I just hope they keep consistent and don't let the fame get to their heads. Worry about the music first!
did anyone else notice that the first lyric is "i think i found hell" and the last lyric is "i think if found love"? i think it refers to the beginning of the video, when she was being abused by her father versus the end of the video, when that lady took her and they buried her journal and she was finally happy, she finally found love...?
She speaks a broken french w an accent, which makes me think she probably learns it at school and her parents cant speak it, which is why she would use it in a diary (that maybe her parents can find). (I say this as a metropolitan french person, so it might actually be french from another non french country) (Then again maybe they dont speak french and didnt think it was wrong, but i prefer viewing it as an artistic choice unless they state otherwise)
i know lots of people have already said it but this is an absolute masterpiece, i freaking love songs with deep "hidden" meanings that make you think about your perspective on life or even relate to it in a personal level. no wonder why The Neighbourhood, Michael Jackson and Melanie Martinez are my favorite artists, they all are geniuses.
i remember listening to this song every day on my way back from school a few years back. used to bleed all the nbhd's songs. can't believe they're all over tiktok now.
Wow the video's meaning is so deep and the lyrics are in perfect coherence with it, like "I would never run" from her kidnapper because she's finally happy. Or "Don't let the police know anything" because this "crime" was in that girl's favor.
She says in french: “Dear diary, why me? I don’t know what love is. I’ve never felt so sad. If only life was like in the films, but it’s not. I dream that someone will come to take me soon, before the only thing that is certain catches me. We will die.”
As a person who talks french I think it gives the message an incredible power. But all the other people won't understand a bit the artistic choice made there..!
That's because Emile Haynie was their Producer. If you listen to Lana Del Rey's Born To Die & Paradise. And compare it to The Neighbourhood's I Love You. You hear a lot of Similarities. Also Emile produced most of Lana's songs.

I love how well this entire thing was put together, it's honestly amazing. Every scene has so much meaning, and each one makes you feel exactly what it intends.
Does anyone else think the part at 3:51-3:53 sounds like the first tune of R.I.P. 2 My Youth or is it just me? Imagine how cool it would be if they had done that on purpose, if this song was supposed to slowly change into a song that would be published 3 years later oml
Guys, clearly there is no hidden message about her past here - She's simply a heartless person who forced her little sister to come with her to bury her coloring book.
For those that are wondering what is actually said - Dear diary, Why me? I don't know what love is. I have never felt so sad. If only life was like in the movies - but it isn't. I hope that someone will come and take me away - soon. Until the only thing that I am sure of comes back for me. We're gonna die. I honestly believe that this was done to show that nobody understands her or anyone in this video and think that they are all doing fine, but in reality they arn't.
This is my favorite band! They are so deep but they are practical. The subtitles are the OPPOSITE of what the girl is saying because she wanted to get kidnapped to get away from her abusive childhood. So she's happy so she would never run away
The woman here: 2:05 is her mother (Blond with curly hair) I believe the woman that dragged the girl into the car actually was her older self, and they buried the painful memories so she could finally start over.
I like how the French in the beginning is contradictory to the "translation". It really confused me in the beginning, but it was actually really well done.
Dear diary,Why me?I don't know what love isI've never felt so sadMy life is like a movie--but its notI wish that someone could take me awaysoonbefore the one thing that is certain, catches up with me~We will die.
Dear diary, why me ? I don't know what love is, i'd never felt so sad. if only life was like in the movies, but it's not! I wish that someone came and took me away soon before the only thing that's certain catches me: We're all going to die.
okay so I'm very very late to the party but just wanted to say how beautiful and dark the song and the video actually are to me. Not fluent in French but the misleading translations such as "triste" meaning happy, when it actually means sad and so on, really add to the song's depth and I love it. Female robbery is my fave
You moved me to tears. Such a deep song. I have such a deep interpretation to this song different than the other commenters (not to say that it is better), but I can relate. What beautiful and harsh lyrics.
"Dear journal, why me? I do not know what love feels like, I have never been so sad. If only life was like the movies, but it's not. I hope someone comes to take me away, soon. Before the only thing we are certain of in life catches up to me; death."
I literally don’t have words to describe how much I love this band Usually I don’t like specific bands I just hop around from favorite songs but literally I whould die for them I just AGHSNDJDJDJDI I LOVE THEM SO MUCH
I believe this is the actual translation...? "Dear journal, why me? I don't know what love is. I have never felt this sad. If only life was what it's like in movies, but it's not. I hope that someone comes to take me, sometime soon before the only thing that's sure takes me. Before dyeing ."
It's actually closer to this: Chèr journal, Pourquoi moi? ---- Dear diary, Why me? I do not know what it is, love. I've never felt so sad. If only life was like in the movies. But it is not. I hope that someone will take me soon, before the only thing that is certain catches me: We are going to die.
it's meant to be like that, the opposite of what is written in english, as the english represents the cover up she is using to make others think she's okay, but the french is how she really feels. i think
I can't believe people actually thought the beginning translation was a mistake... 😒 Sometimes I think "What?! No way people can be THAT stupid... right?" but then I see TH-cam comments... The Neighbourhood is a genius band! Please just remember that.
Someone told me that she didn't mind being kidnapped, and it's not her mom in the future. That person was helping her and making her forget the bad memories and when it shows them holding hands it symbolizes their new relationship. As people would say we're 'idiots' for not knowing what's happening, it's still a good story the video and song tell.
I'm not a native speaker of french but I figured that out too! It's so dark... (especially when she says she's 'happy', but she says triste instead...)
Soggy Windmill Yep! The first listen scared me, her voice is so.. dark. You can feel that especially when it's your language ^^' Well! i hope you'll learn more French and good luck! ;)
I absolutely love this band. They have great music and because of their inspiring music my suicidal thoughts have gone away. Music lets you escape reality.

Eda Çiçek but she didn’t bury the child in the video. It seemed like she did but when she was done the child held her hand..
i thought the girl and the woman were the same person, but the woman is trying to “kill” her trauma

I think I found hell
I think I found something
I think I found something in my TV screen
I think I found out that I have nothing
That I have nothing in this place for me
I watched it all in my head, perfect sense
They'll take me from me my bed
Leave everything that is worth a single cent and just take me instead
That TV show
I saw as I feel asleep
Had me on both my knees
Praying to whatever is in heaven please send me a felon
And don't let the police know
Anything, anything
Don't tell them anything
Anything, please
Anything, anything
Don't tell them anything
Anything, please
I think I can tell
I think I can tell them
Tell them they were made for me
I'm thinking they'll know, know it already
I'm thinking they'll know just about everything
I bet they planned it all out
Like the shows
Went everywhere I go
Walked into the store right behind me
Stood in line right beside me and followed me to my home
I'm sure they figured it out early on
That I would never run
That they could shoot but that's not fun
'Cause then they're killing their stolen son
Anything, anything
Don't tell them anything
Anything, please
Anything, anything
Don't tell them anything
Anything, please
Ehh... Guys I think the kidnapper is herself.. Like I think the little girls she is carrying around is just her past.. And the kidnaping just symbolises that her childhood was taken by her terrible parents or that she tries to save herself from them by ''kidnapning'' herself?.. And in the end she finally decides to burry her past (The scene shifts between her face and the girls with the memorries from their childhood) just a theory ;D
but i did just read another theory in the comments and... it kinda fits alot more to the song then mine ;)
Pixel-HD yeah but i love your theory more than all.
agree Lola Luppens Luppens
Yeah I think your right ! Especialy because of the words at the beginning, she's writing in her diary and she's thinking the contrary of what she's writing :
Dear diary
Why me ?
I don't know what is love
I have never felt so sad
If only life was like movies
But it's not
I wish someone will take me
Soon
Before the only thing who's certain
Catch me
We're all going to die
Nina S You're* Sry ;) and yeah that part fits great :D
for anyone confused about the beginning, what she was saying and what was being written were the exact opposite, it wasn't a mistake, it was done on purpose, to show how that girl is internally miserable, but externally she's "happy" and "grateful", it was meant to represent how she hides her true feelings, here's what she *really* said :" *dear diary, why me, i don't know what love is, i never felt this sad, if only life was like in the movies, but it's not, i hope someone comes to take me, soon, before the one thing that's certain, traps me, we will die* "
+i dunno It could also be about how kidnapping seems so bad (words spoken) but she really wants it to happen to her (positive subtitles)
Juliette Hyuga That's what the song is about. You'd have to really look at the lyrics to understand it. I didn't really understand it either.
Juliette Hyuga I'm not sure- I mean they did say "whatever is in heaven please send me a felon and don't let the police know", I looked on that website that explained the meaning of words haha
Juliette Hyuga Tru
All of the songs of the neighbourhood are perfect and they something incredible .
I like how the French is opposite. It kind of shows how someone can be interpreted in a positive light when they actually are in pain.
wow!did anyone notice that you can hear the beginning of R.I.P. 2 My Youth at the very end of the video
+Lauren G. Yes!
+Lauren G. Maybe it's a coincidence but it doesn't change the fact that they surprise me all the time
+Justyszak if u watched the audio version of rip 2 my youth the little girl dancing she is the exact little girl of this video and rip 2 my youth is about a funeral maybe is not a coincidence
+Joshua Silva Whoa :o It's like she was dancing in cause of freedom she got. I was lucky enough to watch it ;)
+Joshua Silva I wonder why the video was taken down. Do you still have it?
My cat pressed like on this video. I've never loved a cat so much
your cat is a saint 😌
''I'm so lucky to be alive''.
something
"rattrape moi, on va mourir"
that's not what she says, I feel lucky to be french now
@@ninadnct8336 what is the référence ?
THIS SONG IS DEEP! the song is about a little girl who WANTS to be kidnapped.
The beginning of the video starts with a French girl talking. The subtitles on the video are WRONG!! As a matter of fact, they are the exact opposite of what she is saying. First, she is NOT talking/Praying to God, she is writing in her diary. She does NOT say "Dear God" as the subtitles say. She says: "Chere Journal" which translates "Dear Diary."
What she says (also the words written in the diary in the video):
"Dear Diary - Why me? I am not loved. i have never felt so sad. If only it was like in the movies, but it's not. I want someone to take me. soon, the single thing that is certain is that i will catch my death."
I definitely think the opening line is: "I think I found help" - The kid is referring to those who she hopes will come get her.
She talks about:
"They'll take me from me my bed, Leave everything that is worth a single cent and just take me instead..." The kid wants to be taken from their current situation.
But mostly, the kid wants to be "wanted" by her new parents.
With this line:
"That they could shoot but that's not fun, 'Cause then they're killing their stolen son."
The kid is saying the "felons" won't kill (hurt) him because what they really want is a child of their own.
I got the feeling that the translation is wrong with the very purpose of representing what AntoFanpire282 said.
This accurately represents my life when I was 6-7 years old. Its so sad but so true. Same with the 'Daddy Issues' song.
I can connect on such an emotional level with this song it makes me so... Emotional. I've dealt with depression and many other disorders and finding this song has me feeling recognized like someone actually understand what it's like to hate your life and want to be taken away. Thank you for this connection.
I hope you are okay now🙏
yup it's incredibly relatable
The neighbourhood a melhor banda que existe!!!
Same, I dislike most modern bands nowadays, but when this came up I was pleasantly surprised.
did anyone else notice that the first lyric is "i think i found hell" and the last lyric is "i think if found love"? i think it refers to the beginning of the video, when she was being abused by her father versus the end of the video, when that lady took her and they buried her journal and she was finally happy, she finally found love...?
I didn't hear "I think I found love" till this day, it sound so GOOOOOD
The beginning isn't a mistake, they made it on purpose.
She speaks a broken french w an accent, which makes me think she probably learns it at school and her parents cant speak it, which is why she would use it in a diary (that maybe her parents can find).
(I say this as a metropolitan french person, so it might actually be french from another non french country)
(Then again maybe they dont speak french and didnt think it was wrong, but i prefer viewing it as an artistic choice unless they state otherwise)
thats it definitely
***** No i mean. It was the point, it was supposed to say the opposite of what was written and i was just speculating on why her french is so broken
+Vladimir Lorimia Its supposed to be a conflict of emotions
Makes sense as well
I think that's kinda the point as well. like they tell you something means something but behind it, it's really something different.
i know lots of people have already said it but this is an absolute masterpiece, i freaking love songs with deep "hidden" meanings that make you think about your perspective on life or even relate to it in a personal level. no wonder why The Neighbourhood, Michael Jackson and Melanie Martinez are my favorite artists, they all are geniuses.
i can relate to this on a psychological level
Ditto!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love how each song from the nbhd has a meaning to them. It's not just a song that is made by a few words put together, like some songs nowadays
i remember listening to this song every day on my way back from school a few years back. used to bleed all the nbhd's songs. can't believe they're all over tiktok now.
But all the other people won't understand a bit the artistic choice made there..!
now, when i know french, the beginning gave me goosebumps
at 0:35 it reminds me of this voice from blue jeans-lana del rey
Omd. Great spot.
Eirini Mak YESS TRUE HAHA
That's because Emile Haynie was their Producer. If you listen to Lana Del Rey's Born To Die & Paradise. And compare it to The Neighbourhood's I Love You.
You hear a lot of Similarities. Also Emile produced most of Lana's songs.

Now I can never live in Peace till I hear a mashup.
I love how well this entire thing was put together, it's honestly amazing. Every scene has so much meaning, and each one makes you feel exactly what it intends.
Omg it's been years since the last time I listened to this. The mv deserves much more views.
Does anyone else think the part at 3:51-3:53 sounds like the first tune of R.I.P. 2 My Youth or is it just me? Imagine how cool it would be if they had done that on purpose, if this song was supposed to slowly change into a song that would be published 3 years later oml
Yh but I don't think its there for a reason its just an instrument
Yeah I know, but I just thought it would be cool :)
Sam Theunissen yh
Twenty one pilots did it w/ 2011 goner & heavydirtysoul so you never know.
Actually!!!
this song HITS DIFFERENT
so she's an abused girl and she hopes someone will break in and kidnap her just so she can get away from her parents?
Yeah.
The kidnapper is actually her older self who tries to bury the past.
This song is literally my life
5 years since i found the neighbourhood and is still my favorite band, thanks for all the neigbourhood ❤️
more than 7 years later, it’s still my favorite song of them with baby came home.
Guys, clearly there is no hidden message about her past here - She's simply a heartless person who forced her little sister to come with her to bury her coloring book.
That's clearly what's happening here
That is 100% correct... Damn siblings. How the hell they get Mitt Romney as the dad?
For those that are wondering what is actually said -
Dear diary,
Why me? I don't know what love is. I have never felt so sad. If only life was like in the movies - but it isn't. I hope that someone will come and take me away - soon. Until the only thing that I am sure of comes back for me. We're gonna die.
I honestly believe that this was done to show that nobody understands her or anyone in this video and think that they are all doing fine, but in reality they arn't.
I remember listening to this song as a kid I would cry listening to it
My poor french helped me sort of understand this video and holy crap! I was so hooked trough out the whole thing, it's very powefull.
It's a shame you never learned to read American English, or this video would be even more powerful for you.
James Pearson No, she says one thing in French and it's written otherwise in English.
James Pearson I thought there was only one english, but oh well what a shame... I don't know "american" :c
Tomy Tran then it makes no sense because they're speaking french
Oh dear god..... Its okay dear, you're young and pretty, that's all that matters.
I love how NBHD always have a story behind there music.I
The Neighbourhood invented the mannequin challenge..
This is my favorite band! They are so deep but they are practical. The subtitles are the OPPOSITE of what the girl is saying because she wanted to get kidnapped to get away from her abusive childhood. So she's happy so she would never run away
Why is everything they make so damn good
I just discovered this a few days ago and I still have it on repeat, their music is so fucking good!
The woman here: 2:05 is her mother (Blond with curly hair)
I believe the woman that dragged the girl into the car actually was her older self, and they buried the painful memories so she could finally start over.
I like how the French in the beginning is contradictory to the "translation". It really confused me in the beginning, but it was actually really well done.
"I think I found love" in the end gets me each time. It just feels like a transition to somewhere, like a "to be continued" thing. Idk.
i wrote an essay ab why this is my fav song ever
Dear diary,Why me?I don't know what love isI've never felt so sadMy life is like a movie--but its notI wish that someone could take me awaysoonbefore the one thing that is certain, catches up with me~We will die.
thanks
I thought my French wasn't so bad that I got "sad" confused with "happy." Thanks!
2012 had a lot of music that is more relevant than ever.
this is masterpiece
I think the first time I watched this I cried like so bad, I mean it just triggers the feels all over. Just. FEELS.
It's tragic how terrible things parents do can effect the children so easily. The scene is just 3 minutes but the damage they left stays forever.
Y si te dijera que no son sus padres biológicos y cada que se los dice ellos le dicen que si los son

Finally some real music
IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS SONG FOR YEARS BUT I WAS NEVER ABLE TO FIND IT BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW THE NAME IM SO HAPPY
glad you've found it😀
me too XD
Dear diary, why me ?
I don't know what love is,
i'd never felt so sad.
if only life was like in the movies, but it's not!
I wish that someone came and took me away soon
before the only thing that's certain catches me:
We're all going to die.

Thank you!
Thank you!
It's sooo cool how we can get different stories from their music, I feel their vibe!
I love the metaphors within all of the neighbourhoods music videos
oh hi me lmao
okay so I'm very very late to the party but just wanted to say how beautiful and dark the song and the video actually are to me. Not fluent in French but the misleading translations such as "triste" meaning happy, when it actually means sad and so on, really add to the song's depth and I love it. Female robbery is my fave
Hands down the best Neighbourhood song by far
Five years later and it's still one of the best song with one of the most best videos,, ever
Le début est en Français yeah!
Je m'y attendais tellement pas !

Hi Frenchies! I like their debut album too.
+Bobby Behrens-Björkman (Bobby the Lobster) :3
+Lisy Bush J'étais choquée x)
This is my favourite song of them. I cant stop listening to it. I really like "Afraid" as well.
I love the disparity between what is said in french and what is written on screen
You moved me to tears. Such a deep song. I have such a deep interpretation to this song different than the other commenters (not to say that it is better), but I can relate. What beautiful and harsh lyrics.
I'm curious, what's your interpretation? If you don't want to share that's okay too.
can I use youtube messenger? because I just wrote you a whole essay and it got deleted for some reason. FML!!!:D
"Dear journal, why me? I do not know what love feels like, I have never been so sad. If only life was like the movies, but it's not. I hope someone comes to take me away, soon. Before the only thing we are certain of in life catches up to me; death."
ten years and still remains a masterpiece
I literally don’t have words to describe how much I love this band
Usually I don’t like specific bands I just hop around from favorite songs but literally I whould die for them I just AGHSNDJDJDJDI I LOVE THEM SO MUCH
I believe this is the actual translation...?
"Dear journal, why me? I don't know what love is. I have never felt this sad. If only life was what it's like in movies, but it's not. I hope that someone comes to take me, sometime soon before the only thing that's sure takes me. Before dyeing ."
You're definitely right.
Noel McCormack Haha, well that's the advantage of living in a place surrounded by French!
It's actually closer to this:
Chèr journal,
Pourquoi moi?
----
Dear diary,
Why me? I do not know what it is, love. I've never felt so sad. If only life was like in the movies. But it is not. I hope that someone will take me soon, before the only thing that is certain catches me: We are going to die.
it's meant to be like that, the opposite of what is written in english, as the english represents the cover up she is using to make others think she's okay, but the french is how she really feels. i think
isabella pinto Ah, I see what you're saying! Makes sense! Good thinking :)
I think the woman 'kidnapping' the child is the child as a woman burying her inner torment due to trauma from her abusive childhood
Por que nadie escucha esta joyita en el 2021 es ARTE
Pocas personas tienen buen gusto
A mi me fascina esta banda 🥰
2023 JAJAJAAJ
Deberían aplicar la del streaming
I didn't expect to hear my native language at the beginning! By the way, what she said is the completely opposite of the lyrics ; "we're going to die"
really? what do you speak?
I'm French 😊
I'm not a native speaker of french but I figured that out too! It's so dark... (especially when she says she's 'happy', but she says triste instead...)
Soggy Windmill Yep! The first listen scared me, her voice is so.. dark. You can feel that especially when it's your language ^^'
Well! i hope you'll learn more French and good luck! ;)
Hey! Can you write those lyrics in french? Cuz i didn't find it anywhere. :(
I absolutely love this band. They have great music and because of their inspiring music my suicidal thoughts have gone away. Music lets you escape reality.
NOV 2020 and this song still hits me in the same way it did 8 years ago.
I'm getting obsessed with 'em. They're perfection.
This song... This band... Amazing! Hip Hop Indie Rock R&B Blues and a little bit of Soul. What's not to like?
This song is timeless
3:48 I SWEAR THIS IS THE SAME CHORDS OF R.I.P 2 MY YOUTH
YES WTF
Every once in a while I come back to this song to see how the comments change lol
