  • It's Edutainment Month once again! And it's time for some rabbits to get their reading on. Yes, freaking Reader Rabbit, the classic educational game from The Learning Company.

I played some of the early 2000s Reader Rabbit games as a kid and my god did I love them. They were definitely more fun around that era, I think.

If they made The Organ Trail, I see no reason why Reader Raptor shouldn't be made, because that sounds friggin' awesome.
    FUND IT.

Lol I played through the entirety of Organ Trail without realising that Oregon Trail existed

One of the most successful and highly remembered edutainment titles of all time for Edutainment Month? Man, what was I thinking!

Jeez, this one's older than me! XD
I remember playing the later version of this on Windows (and Reader Rabbit 2nd Grade). I also remember how in the math game, Reader Rabbit was called Math Rabbit.

Holy nostalgia trip, phreakindee. This is a game that I haven't played or even thought about, in 20 years. Suddenly, my childhood! Thank you for this video.

Oh the nostalgia! 😆 Used to play this back in 1989 (I was 3). Watching the rabbit spin on the boxes was weirdly satisfying.....

What I love about his reviews is that while he jokes/mocks the game, he doesn't let his own humor influence his -actual- review.

Awww man, this was the first computer game I ever played. I was three years old, it was on a Mac, and it was black and white because it was on a computer that didn't have color. Oh, the nostalgia!

Reader Rabbit, my first edutainment programs were from the nineties CD series and its sister series for older kids the Cluefinders. Reader Rabbit is the reason I have an edutainment software collection of more than 100 titles, so I can't wait for April

I had a newer version of Reader Rabbit: 1st Grade on a CD, that came with another game called Mission: T.H.I.N.K. Both games followed an actual storyline, the Reader Rabbit one being some porcupine guy stole the stuff (scripts, props, costumes, posters, musical scores) for the play that they were going to hold that same night, so playing as the rabbit, you had to go on missions to recreate all the lost stuff. It taught language, math, art, and music.

I played this as a kid back in 1991 in first grade, on a Commodore 64, the original 1984 version, also Number Munchers, and Oregon trail too, good times dying of dysentery!
In Third grade the school switched all the computers over to Macintosh and I was able to get that exact Commodore, still have it, and it still works all these years later.
On a side note, a Compact Flash card adapter is a great thing to have for loading software on one of these, saves a lot of wear on the disc drive.

Ever since I stumbled into your videos on youtube, I remembered more and more why I love computers and IT, and then there are videos like this that remind me how I started getting interested in computers. I loved RR as a child, I still remember going to the "Computer Lab" in elementary school and using the 5 inch floppys to play games on the old macs. I just picked up an old Windows game I used to like called MoneyTown, I'll upload a video when I get it from Amazon.

OOOOO I see Treasure Mountain in the background of the intro!
My weekly school computer days were filled to the brim with that, Treasure Mathstorm, and Museum Madness!
Oh, and Reader Rabbit I played a lot as a little kid, can't forget that. :)
Yep, my nostalgia meter is full. Thank you kind sir! ^_^

My childhood. It's funny, I remember it so much differently; these kinds of games always seem more, I dunno, epic when you're a little kid playing around on the "family computer" in the "computer room." This, plus a game I don't recall the title of (it was a math skills game with a purple blobbish thing as the mascot?) were my way of entertaining myself.

  • @jamiemarchant

I remember playing Reader Rabbit 1, 2, and 3 on Windows. Reader Rabbit 3 was my favorite. That was the one where you work for a newspaper. You could even print out a page with all the stories you "wrote". I really had a lot of fun just doing that.

I played several copies of this series as a kid, but all on discs. I think they also owned the Cluefinder series, which were incredibly awesome. Cluefinders was a scooby doo like adventuring team that went all around the world to solve puzzles related to math, logic, and reading. They were only ever on disc though, so I don't know how interested you'd be.
