Damned right. That's what I was about to write. I'm not going to put words in Herc's mouth but I`m sure he's happy that these TH-cam channels with people that he FIRST gave a platform to are now taking off. That`s a great thing, there's enough success and opportunities to go around for everyone. It's hard enough for ex-convicts to find work when they get out, so anything that can be turned into a hustle to help them get back on their feet, progress and succeed in life should be celebrated.

The SHU sounds a lot like my childhood. I know many might laugh at me but I have social problems because of it. If I ever got below a B grade in any class, I would get grounded till next report card in my room. Back then we didn't have cell phones or internet like we do now. My dad wouldn't even let me read a book. So i sat there for years on end doing absolutely nothing. Maybe sneak in reading a book at night when my dad slept. As an adult now, I prefer to be alone in a room by myself. I'm not very well socially adjusted.

I had a very similar experience. Years from 12-15 where I couldn’t do anything I’m younger so I had computers and shit but if my dad saw me on it he would smash it. I just took everything out my room and would workout by myself
It's not funny at all. It's probably more traumatic for a child to do this. Well depends on the SHU or the facility you did time in. But as an adult at least you know what you did and what's happening around you. As a child it's like your whole world is collapsing.

Solitary confinement for extended periods of time is inhumane. A person confined that way should have access to books and TV. Setting a person up to lose their mind is cruel and unusual punishment.

Straight up, ask yourself... What kinda person would continually work in the most hellish work environment I can imagine. Sick people who like seeing and committing violence that's who. If not at first, they succumb to the pressure and the cycle repeats.

Nothing but respect for Brian. To do 30 months in the hole is quite impressive. Takes a strong mind to do lengths of time like that. I was in the hole 3x in my 4 year bit and thought that was bad. My longest was 3 weeks and a couple days. What doesn't kill ya, makes ya stronger!

Great interview, this guy has some really good energy. I hated being in prison because I was around a bunch of clowns all the time but there’s a few people in there that are actually good guys, this seems like one of them.
Great content. Its always good to learn about things outside of the mainstream in life. These men and women you interview serve as a great warning not to go to prison. I hate that youtube actively censors this content when it’s so educational.
I did 3 weeks in the shu at Allegheny county jail in Pittsburgh PA. They put me and this other white guy in one cell and these two black guys in the cell next to us. Your only supposed to be there for 48 hours at this jail, and us four watched and watched hundreds of people get shipped in and out that came in after us. I swear it was an experiment we couldn't get any answers no cared and by the third week all four of us were breaking and losing our minds. . The fact that you did two years of that and didn't lose your sanity and now helping and putting out a positive message my hats off to you man much respect 💪🏻💪🏻
I did 79 days in the bucket in philly at PICC which stands for Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center...that was a rough joint we only came out every other day for a shower even tho were supposed to get an hour rec every day
I did 3 weeks in solitary and I still feel like it messes with me to this day.

The SHU he described in FSP sounded a lot like the situation that Anthony Hinton was in (the book “the Sun does shine”). The layout, procedures and e.g. the constant lights sounded a lot like the Alabama death row described in that book. Can you try to interview Anthony Hinton?????

I worked for my state's corrections department for a couple of years-thank God not as a hack but as a maintenance worker. The inmates viewed us differently-I guess really with less contempt since we weren't out to get them. I'd treat them like people-unlike my supervisor that used to be guard but switched to maintenance. I admit that it felt good when a worker told me that I was 'the most decent one here'. There's enough bad stuff happening so keep it low key was the mantra I went by. The worker inmates really appreciated the little things we'd give them like a coffee maker with coffee that we'd buy and bring in for them. I guess that was a big thing for them because the kitchen coffee was awful and all they were allowed was the instant stuff that tastes like used oil. We did get a couple of tweakers that would drink 2 pots of coffee by themselves-oh well they worked really fast.

To give you an idea of the closed system that Bryan talks about. Last year I was locked up 60 days for weed. I complained about the mold in the dorm right above my bunk like the concrete prefabricated walls and roof sections they bring in would have gaps. You could see whatever they used to seal the pieces had gaps and throughout the 60 days you'd see moisture when it rained and when the A/C was on with it being humid outside. Of course there was black mold up there. State of Florida comes in, inspects the dorms, clearly sees inmates have their own dorm rules posted in there including some threatening rules, and pass the inspection of the facility with black mold and obviously COs lacking full control of the dorm. I filed a complaint about the mold, was told there wasn't a problem and about a year later- the city approves mold remediation funds for the jail. I'm going to wait and file requests for public records on the funds plus where the jail intends to remediate mold at. I bet you money they're going to clean up my dorm for mold after telling me there's not a mold problem and after not coming into the dorm to inspect.

Did SHU in UK prison...we don't have the same type of gangs here, more gentlemanly and can do your own thing...but being isolated takes a huge amount of mental strength and not something I'd ever wanna do again
