    As someone who is planning to buy kindle and confused about these models, I appreciate your comment that the new one is not much of an upgrade. This will save me a lot of money. Thanks

    Contrary to PianoMac's comment to the effect no one wants the standard pen, I own both and never use the premium pen. The little button on the side accidentally gets triggered when writing and the editing tools (erase for example) are right on the screen and easier to initiate then say flipping the pen to erase.

    • @pianomacpower
      @pianomacpower  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I stand corrected, then. I'd heard lots of discourse online about the superiority of the premium pen (which I agree with), but I'm glad to hear that the basic has its fans as well!

      This is the biggest reason I don't like the premium pen -- the button just feels in the way.

    As someone that bought a Scribe in March….i was really happy that there wasn’t a major update. I would’ve had major buyer’s remorse.

      Plus I’m guessing the price was way better too :) I hope the software features make it to all scribes, I’m guessing they should. I just want to access my PDF annotations on other devices and maybe a quick access drawer to recent notebooks and books.

      Oh, touché... yeah, that would've been really rude to pull right after the October prime day too.

      @@DigiDriftZone I got a pretty good deal, with a trade in. I got the 16gb with basic pen. Then contacted Amazon and asked if I could just upgrade the pen to the premium, and pay the difference. So, they gave me a credit to buy the pen, so, I only had to pay the tax for the premium pen. I was pretty happy about that.

    As a writer, the new rubber eraser on the new Scribe alone is a big deal to me. It’ll feel more natural to write and erase with. Also, the fact that you can write directly on the books themselves is pretty neat along with the AI implementation where if you change the font size your notes won’t disappear, you’ll still be able to see them. As far as design goes, I’m personally a fan of the white bezels now and how sleek it looks, makes it seem more like a notebook to me. But I can see why if you already have a Scribe why you wouldn’t want to upgrade. I’m personally going to be buying the new one since I no longer have a Scribe.

      @pianomacpower  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh nice! Do I want to know what happened to your old scribe? 😅
      As far as hardware goes, I guess I didn't really talk about the new pen. I've heard some people worry that it'll degrade quickly, but I'm interested to see what happens with it. I don't really mind the white bezel, and I've heard that they might fix the gap between the shell and the bezel, which I'd greatly appreciate - I think my issue is more that there's not much new aside from some cosmetic changes. New colors are nice, though, and the software has be excited.

      You're a writer you say? I have one question; can a person write a book using these devices?

    • @pianomacpower
      @pianomacpower  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@clivepilusa7734 That... might be hard. Writing it out would be easy, and I've never run into a "page limit" or any performance issues in giant notebooks. You'd really want to do all of your edits on a computer, though, and sending the whole file through writing-to-text may take a while. I'm also not sure how good the conversion process is - it might get a few words wrong, depending on your handwriting. But I'm sure it could be done, and is probably better for getting first drafts out of the brain than staring at a screen!

    Let's be honest: the real gamechanger will be a colour Kindle Scribe. As to the Oasis and the buttons, they've been implementing and removing them for years. Each time they come back, they make you pay extra (Voyage, Oasis), trying to sell you basic technology as a luxury you have to pay extra to get. Those who read laying in bed know way too well how importanti it is to have a larger bezel with buttons, so as to hold it firmly without needing to lift a finger.

    • @pianomacpower
      @pianomacpower  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I had never actually heard of the Voyage before this point... that makes the Oasis situation even sillier in my opinion. Instead of pushing unique versions, they should keep iterating updates to each model. Color on the scribe will be great, but I wonder if they'll try and keep it as a one-of-a-kind kindle as long as possible.

    • @BERO73
      @BERO73 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pianomacpower the voyage was the first attemp at a device with buttons after years of leaving them behind. It was a very interesting light device, as the 'buttons' where somewhat hidden and flush with the bezel. Also, there were two kinds of buttons on both sides. I bought it in 2013 and it still works perfectly. Too bad it was never updated (the Oasis came out, with its premium expensive heavy design and materials) so it didn't even get the warm light 🤷🏻‍♂️
      I wouldn't be surprised if a new kindle with buttons will come in the next few years. Now that they have raised the prices of the whole lineup, it will be a lot easier to make an even more expensive device with buttons, just to make us customers 'happy'. I may be wrong but I just see a strategy, and it reminds me of Apple.

    I just got the colorsoft, its pretty cool. I might regret that I traded in my paperwhite for it, but it is still a good portable option. I use my kindle scribe pretty often and if the new software is coming to it, then I'll stay there. My optimal loadout would be a color scribe for the larger reader and a paperwhite for the portable one. (I know both are portable, but hopefully, you know what I mean.)

    Honestly, I bought a scribe on this last prime day with the basic pen. I really liked it but definitely found the basic pen to be a hinderance. I decided to return it mostly for the pen. I know I could have bought it separately but I figured at that point I might as well just get the new one and call it a day.

    • @pianomacpower
      @pianomacpower  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah... a lot of other comments seem to like the basic pen, but I get your preference for premium. Looks like the refurbished sale is over, but it'll probably go up again before the Scribe 2 ships in December, so there's a lot of options there, especially with the new premium pen.

    I’m getting the new scribe in the Metallic Jade colorway. The new AI summarization features and active canvas will be great as a student, and in many years, when I am no longer a student, I will pursue research and mental health counseling, so it is a long-term investment for me. I could have gotten the original scribe, but as of now, the 64 GB is hard to come by, and I prefer the new look. If I had the previous scribe, I would not “upgrade” since the software is portable, but for me, it would be worth it as the first thing I would be using the new one for is a research project.

    • @pianomacpower
      @pianomacpower  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Oh fun! I am hyped for the new color - it's always nice to have tech that's not grayscale. Active canvas is super big, AI I'm less excited for... I will say that, as far as I've heard, people usually only get 64GB if they're using audiobooks. I think the notes are generally pretty small, storage-wise. But I'm excited for you to try out the new Scribe, regardless! It'll certainly be nice to be able to reference old work years later.

    The OASIS battery sucked and the charging port was obsolete, The form factor was excellent. As for the Kindle Scribe, I have the 1st gen., I bought it for the form factor of a larger screen, I can't say I baby the device, I haven't spilled anything on it, hasn't been anywhere near the elements as such, but has seen it's time in a bookbag, and some tossing around, no issues there, same Amazon cover, Just ordered a MOKO tablet sleeve, but I wish the Scribe came with some standard of protection rating. Still clunky with highlighting and note taking. I've lost my premium pen, and yes I pre ordered. I bought this as a dedicated reader with ability to note take. I have yet to find the need for Bluetooth/Audio. I enjoyed your review.
