I know its 2 years on since this video was made but just want to say thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I have to non runner strimmers that fire but dont run so you have put together the most practical guide on trouble shooting that i have had the pleasure of watching so i am now putting my self on the subscribe list
For the first time in any strimmer videos , this Gentleman has shown the mixture needle , when the strimmer bogs down . I've thrown strimmer away because I could not fix the dam thing , when it always bogged . Now I will try doing the needle now . Great video .
Exactly what I was looking for! Your guide covers so many possibilities I’m confident I can get my neighbours strimmer fixed and returned now. Great video 👍🏻
I’ve had this before, strimmer idles but then bogs down when at full throttle. I dismantled the carb and I found a whole load of gunk behind the gauze strainer/filter that is immediately next to your left index finger at 8:22. You can very carefully pry it out without damaging it, either pick or blow the gunk out and then just reassemble. Strimmer runs like a dream again.
Many thanks for the brilliant tip about the mixture screw! I'd spent ages trying to cure the problem of no power when applying full throttle, and thought I'd tried everything. I also blew out the carb with air and now all is well! I had to unscrew the mixture adjuster a little to get the hacksaw onto it, and did this using circlip pliers (after noting how many turns to bottom of course!). In my case it was about 1.9 turns to bottom, similar to your figure of 2 turns. Only problem is, now I have to cut the hedge!
I love you! Well, nearly. My Aldi multi-tool thing had the same problem and I did the same things you did, but nothing helped. Watched your video and managed to adjust that mixture screw just a little with a stiff wire, then turned it back to where it was.. and now the thing is revving like a good 'un. Cheers!
That strimmer will bog every time if you leave the choke on and squeeze the throttle. As soon as it fires with choke, go to mid choke and let it rev a little for a minute to warm up then slide the choke off. I have been using the same B&Q strimmer for 8 years now, I need to change the fuel lines every other year...👍
I had the same issue with the same model Strimmer - I'd tried everything else but removing that pin valve and reinserted it at the same depth also cleared the issue. Great tip to cut into the top of the pin to get a screwdriver on it too
Nice to see all those parts you didn’t need very Generous of the manufacturer’s. I think in many countries it is the law that the carbs have no adjustment apart from idle. Time to buy that ultrasonic tank.Great video thanks for sharing
Here's hoping 🤞 thanks again for the video. So I put fresh fuel, cleaned the spark plug, reset the idle screw & nope, still the same , hoping this mixer pin will do the Job 👍
Bloody excellent tutorial. I'd like to thank you very much for that.mustve taken you a while to put together. My cg520 is now running (fuel exhast starved)...just dragged it higher into the tank...I had no idea what to attack.
Well done on this one ! I had the carb apart I don't know how many times and i'm well experianced on engines, never thought of this one though . Saw slot on the screw blew it out and couldn't believe it , ran like a new one, whats worse is I've already ordered a new carb, (what a dimmo eh ) Great Stuff !!!
Thank you very much for your tip about the carb adjustment screw! I did a slot in the screw with a hacksaw, and then I just unscrew it, wipe it with dry cloth and screw it back into the same position. Now it works like it’s new. Thank you again and keep up the good work! 😊
I got the same problem with hedge trimmer. I did everything you did already but I not took that screw out so I am hoping if I do that today it may work.
You would have fitted in well at Longbridge...and you made me laugh .was that intended..but you were very informative I've been gardening forty odd years and every machine needs love and attention .my strimmer was serviced by a cowboy .and I've just adjusted it yesterday with a minute turn off the screw and my god what a difference. I'm trying too find the adjustment on my petrol hedge trimmer as she running slow, brought for £15. I've already changed plug filter, pipes, any suggestion..
Would you be able to answer a question I have, I recently brought a petrol strimmer from SGS engineering and I had to return as the unit was too heavy for me to use. When SGS received the item back after I confirmed I did not use it try to, they are saying as there was fuel in the priming bulb they can not expect my return as they are saying I put fuel in it, and attempted to start it, which I did not. My question is would there still be fuel in this bulb left over from SGS testing this unit as surely they would have tested it. I would really appreciate your thoughts why there is fuel in the priming bulb. Many thanks.
Nice informative video. Just getting into fixing these things myself and I love it. Fixed my dads lawnmower and strimmer. Just bought myself a baeko 4 in 1 from ebay for 10er as the pull cord isn't retracting. It'll be here tomorrow. Hopefully that'll be the only issue, if not I'll follow these steps to get it running. 👊🏻
Hi, the strimmer looks to be the same as mine, a B&Q FPGTP25. Very informative. The spark on mine seems to be quite weak, it's there but only feint, would you happen to know where I can get a spare ignition coil that doesn't cost the earth - either original or compatible, as long as it works.
Usually what`s over looked if your having problems like this usually a fuel cap issue` you should do a pressure and vacuum test with cap on the fuel tank . disconnect the fuel line and return line and connect them to the tool, to do the tests
My problem is the engine won't turn over with the pull string. It near breaks your fingers. It's fine when the plug is out no problem. It's weird. It's like the compression is massive.
Hello, great video but i'm still stuck. I am currently in Nepal trying to help out a small NGO. Their strimmer bogs down when trying to accelerate... have done everything like you but simply cant find any screw or other way of ajusting the mix... only one screw on the carb for the idle... any ideas? Thanks
Hi...good video! I've got a strimmer and the fuel pipe is leaking but not sure what size diameter pipe is. It's similar to yours but not exactly the same. It's made by Power tools. Any idea what size please mate?
I've been having trouble with my spear and Jackson spjgt26 petrol strimmer. It starts up but give it some gas as you say it bogs down. I've put a new carburettor on it new plug set the gap new air filter new fule pipes and filter fresh petrol. And the thing still bogs down. I've set the mixture screw can you or any one help me before I throw it over my neighbour fence.
I’m struggling forgot to take pics of mine. Took the carb off to clean and change fuel pipes don’t know how it goes back on lol. Qualcast cdb30a petrol strimmer? Any help?
Mine had a broken gasket between the engine and carb making it bog out when reving i think the pressure was escaping, its now working well without the gasket for now 😂
yeah it runs for about 3-5 mins without filter then starts bogging down then dies completely. ive noticed fuel filter has dropped off in tank i bought on ebay cheap fuel line kit last year however after only 12months they eventually failed broke into pieces fuel additives must of corroded them away cheap crap the original lines were stiff and rigid lasted 10yrs but unable to find high quality like original cant see a missing fuel filter causing it to die.its a strange one even after adjusting carburetor screw that makes it run on full pelt but not for long minutes later it starts bogging down again any other suggestions. really i need a stihl proper job or honda but their not cheap..👍
2 strokes need oil to lubricates all the engine, as there is no sump with oil in. So likely to have seized the engine or increased engine wear. Does it turn over easy when you pull the cord?
Take the exhaust off, look inside the cylinder, pull the cord slowly, if you see any grooves/scratches in the cylinder or on the piston , it’s an engine change
Awesome vid 👌 I have 2 with this exact problem they’re relatively new as well 🙈 I’ve tried cleaning the carb’s changed plugs I didn’t even think about the breather tube 🙈 can’t wait to try that and the mixture screw I have nitro rc car,s can’t believe I didn’t think of the mixture screw 😂 appreciate the info clear and to the point keep the vids coming just subbed 🙏👌P.S I’ll come back and let you know how it goes 😂😂

If 2 stroke and left a while fuel evaporates off and leave oil in the carb. Strip and clean the carb as a starting point.
Just about to throw away mine though i would try the mixture screw half a turn in and now it runs like new nice one.
Pleased it worked for you.
Very informative I'm having a go at a mcalister b&q special tomorrow 👍
Another point to check is the muffler spark arrestor. If it is blocked then discard and leave it out. 8 out of 10 times this is the problem.
