Oh heck yeah. I’m shocked you got that thing in there but how are the temps on the controller and memory when looking at hwinfo? Like using steam to download a huge game what’s the highest it sees after 20 mins of downloading something ? I put a Samsung 990 pro 4tb in my Ally. Single sided. Went with 0.5mm pads. 18w/mk thermal conductivity. Ice PC 2mm heatsink. 70c max temps on load. Should I go thicker in your opinion with the thermal pads and heatsink? I clipped the support brackets from my stock backplate and did some modding to increase the size of the vents and re routing the air pressure by using foam basically cutting off air supply to the controller quarters. Hi. what did you use for the bands holding the heatsink to the 2280 ssd. I'm using electric tape. been searching hardware stores for a different solution. I purchased the Handheld DIY backplate. thanks for the Great videos.
Yo cppc, does the handheld diy backplate fit with the skull and co gripcase? I dont mind cutting out the gripcase vents. But unsure how different the two are in term of rear curves 🤔
Not sure if OS/software mods are your type of thing, but I'm highly interested in the potential of lower temps and more performance with Z1E on Atlas OS 0.4 where they have finally given options for greater customization within privacy, security and better utilization on Windows 10 and 11. Where you have multiple Z1E devices, I'd be highly interested in this. All I've done so far on my Z1E is get rid of Windows 11 and rollback to Windows 10 which just cost me RGB lighting control, but I don't care about RGB anyway, so it's disabled. On the hardware modding side, I'd love to see possibly a frame around to expand the thickness of the back plate contact for larger hands greater comfortability if that's something possible with 3D printing. Also I can't seem to find any of the magnetic dpad and replacement buttons that you previously showcased in content. I'd love to do a full on white out triggers, shoulder buttons, dpad and thumbstick tops, but seems no one wants to create such things, so I'm stuck with just my ModDIY white back plate and flat back buttons, the TEC cooler(which does great), and a hydrodipped SPIGEN grip case on the back that leaves all the vented areas and back buttons open for access. Love to know if you may be interested in trying to do something with either the TEC and greater potential of 3d printed expansion frames for larger battery support, increased hand size comfort, and maybe even attach some copper shims cut to the heatpipe side to give it better contact and transfer of heat, maybe even offset layered thermal pads and see if possible to still get better cooling with the heatsink and the ModDIY back plate with a thermal pad between the metal transfer plate? Good info. Thanks.
Heck yeah thanks ! I’ve tried a few debloated os’s but I usually like to just debloat my own and tune it heavily. I’ve experienced with w10 vs w11 and in my experience I just like 11 more plus there was not much if any differences in fps for me in how I set mine up. Some people just like w10 better and that’s def a thing. D-pad mod I really need to experiment and try to get one made for the ally but I’m really bad with 3d design software. There are some ally grip options out there like the jsaux grip sleeves are good but there not good lookin color wise against my purple backplate. Thanks for the support and I’ll def have you some more ally mods soon ! 🤠❤️🤠❤️🤠
@@cppctek I look forward to the content checking out Atlas OS 0.4 and where it's no longer by the development team admission going to be full install each update and will get patched upgrades now that things have been reworked. Do you have any advise for apps that will allow core control that's more than just general power adjustment, separate from GPU control, so I could run similar to steam deck at 4 cores 8 threads and keep full GPU utilization for a "travel mode" better experience? I've asked ASUS in my testing time having almost a year with it, but it's not gotten added of yet. The JSAUX sleeves are too loose for me. Really I just need the handheld to be thicker. I wish ASUS would consider a Deluxe edition with a larger HDR native landscape VRR display. Also the other big thing I'm trying to find is a white bezel Anti Glare tempered glass or white vinyl bezel covering to further my white out project upgrades. Also the L bracket open 1 piece PCIe 4.0 NVME m key 2280 bridge works well for keeping shims or thermal pad spacing under it on my 8TB double sided Mushkin Delta drive. Anyway, looking forward to the future battery mod and its viability. Again thanks.
Found your channel two days back, made me cancelled my JSAUX heat sink plate order and checked out the handheld diy mod instead, thanks for that! One question, I am planning to upgrade to a 2TB 2230 ssd, will the thermal pad of the handheld diy cover the ssd as well pr should I get one specifically for the ssd?
No the pad won’t cover the 2230 so go ahead and grab a chonky boi mod hestsink and a good thermal pad (1mm thick) the hestsink that works best is 20x20x10
@@cppctek got it, I’m checking out the 20x20x10 heatsink on Ali, 1mm for the thermal pad should be enough right? The heatsink I’m getting doesn’t come with. Edit: Also the pure copper heatsink I’m getting is 20x20x11, I believe the extra 1mm shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
thanks for clearing this up, iv been diggin through reddit tryna figure this out, i have a gen 3 crucial 2280 coming tmrw. really hope its not double sided so i can run a flashy heatsink.honestly not worried about the temps would rather it looks cool through the clear back plate
@@cppcteki watched your last vid you never actually put them together, you tested the heatsink with the jsaux case and you tested the handheld diy but not together with the heatsink which is frustrating as hell
If you have the 223 to 2280 rog Ally nvme adapter just get the Samsung 990 pro with the heatsink built in and it will fit with a stock backplate. If you don’t have the 2280 adapter they don’t make any 4tb 2230 drives yet which is the stock form factor size for the og Ally. The new Ally x uses 2280 size by default which I love. Lastly if you go with a 2tb 2230 try going with the Corsair model because it’s a good value and reliable drive. I still would get a heat sink for it as all fast nvme drives run spicy. If you need help reach out on discord and @ me. My servers are listed in the description and my name is the same on there.
How about the chunky boi mod with the handheld diy case and stock silicone pad would u say there is a clearance issue between the heatsink and silicone pad with that combo.?
wonder how temps are if you add a cell phone cooler with a peltier cooler in it...has the cold side and a fam on the hot side...i used one that had an internal battery , didnt hafta charge it all the time and lasted least an hour of gaming...
Nice! Yeah the temps in the wd blue are super low since it doesn’t have a spicy gen 4 controller. Easier to manage heat. Not a bad drive for the bang for buck factor at all if you get a deal on them
Just for clarification, does using the heat sink with the handheldDIY backplate result in better temps compared to just using the silicone pad it came with? Just don’t want to waste my time if it’s fruitless. Just have a 2230 in it.
Yes because the silicon pad doesn’t cover all over the nvme. The controller and memory don’t get fully covered and will possibly the really throttle performance depending on what nvme you use and how hot the drive gets. Don’t risk not running a heat sink on an nvme. I do not advise it but do at your own risk. I do cover it
@@cppctek so if it’s the jsaux heat sink with the handheldDIY backplate, it would run cooler than using the handheldDIY with the silicone pad and using a separate heat sink for my 2230?
My apologies. I misread that this morning as 2280. If your using stock drive with thr 2230 it will lower the nvme temps. But on a 2280 it may lower those slightly but just may not fit perfectly. I don’t like the fitment of the jsaux mod at all as I stated later in the video and in the follow up video I did. The handheld diy backplate is a much better mod and option for cooling.
@@cppctek Not a problem, thank you for taking the time to respond! Just wanted to be sure before trying to tinker with it more. It’s a shame that the jsaux heatsink issues are so prominent and that no one else have gotten a solid heat sink set up down yet. Hopefully a decent one pops up in the wild soon.
I have a question, i was wondering if it would be possible to have the dome style rear paddles instead of stock? I ask as i rely heavily on my dualsense edge controller for fps games and i just dont like the feel of the stock buttons my fingers dont rest naturally on them.
Yes it would be possible. The trouble is we would need someone savy with 3d printing software who can both scan the image in 3d and export it to the pc and edit that image to your liking. You could send over some stock panels to someone who does 3d scanning and design and offer them your suggestions or drawings and they can manipulate the file and image and make it a creation. I’m the worst with that stuff. It’s way over my head but some people it’s as easy and drawing with crayons 🖍️ to them. I myself can barely draw a stick figure lol
My apu temps with my particular config using the hhdiy backplate + my ekwb heataink on my 2280 drive and as I mentioned I’m running full 30w manual mode with fan curve set manually, I have even cpu boost enabled. I’m not letting it limit my power. I have the full 53w boost on the third option. I have maximum performance power profile and windows fully debloated and tuned. I can get these temps all day with mw3, forza horizon 5 and many bigger titles. Maximizing airflow and thermal transfer every where possible is key.
Thank you man for for all the hard work you are putting in. I want to know your opinion on (IFIX IT) ROG ALLY battery mod (Asus A42N1403 Laptop Battery).. thank you in advance
Hey thanks !! Tried to do the connector swap tonight and I failed. I need to buy another connector. The pics on the website are not my fav and the guide was a little confusing but I have to get a new connector and try again. Getting the glue off the stock connector is a pain plus trying to depin them is a pain
@cppctek Oh, i didn't know it's challenging like this, but I know you will figure it out (u r champ), plus I can't wait until you drop the video about it. Keep going ❤️
its SUPER easy to do, 2280 drives have a much easier way of shedding heat with a full length heatsink, your able to get way better drive prices, sizes and options. 2280 drives are far superior. If you want more storage, 2280 is the one that makes the most sense. Simply find a good single sided 2 or 4tb nvme, buy a heatsink, install with the adapter and your good to go. Its easy as pie. I just answer all the questions for those who maybe over think it or may have had very specific questions.
Thanks 😁I really appreciate it! I will have a way higher quality video next. I tested a new capture card from nzxt and I will be reverting back to the og one it looks like lol
I got the z1 extreme about 2 months ago and upgraded my ssd mine had a western digital from the factory I bought the 2 tb western digital sn770m while playing red dead 2 and a few other games I seem to run pretty cool around 65c I bought everything to do the chunky boy mod but first I want to see what my ssd temps are before and after
Nice. Believe it or not 65c on an nvme isn’t cool. Some drive manufactures say the drive controller core temp is 65-70c and anything over that it’s thermally throttling and many can go into protection mode and blue screen. I did a video speaking to drive manufactures directly and got some very surprising answers. They really suggest keeping them well below the limits when possible. Ideally the sweet spot on an nvme drive for longevity, and being 100% sure it’s within the safe operating range is in the 40-50c range. I try to target that for my nvme temps
Reddit is a ces pool. The only fitment issues were with the back paddle buttons and that was not just a hhddiy issue. Jsaux too but there’s a super easy fix that’s included with all the hhdiy kits now so you won’t have any fitment issues there. Also I have 4 of them. Zero fitment issues. You can see I don’t even need to run screws they fit so good.
Subbed mate what would be the best and most reliable easy to do ssd mod please mate budget in mind maybe 1 or 2 tb around 100 dollars even less than that be cool as hell as il have to pay a shop to fit it also 😆🤣
they are super easy to install and i wouldnt pay anyone, but it depends if your lookin for the 2280 or 2230 size, if the 2230 stock size get the corsair mp600, if the 2280 get the p3 plus
@@cppctek im definitely gonna look into it most definitely 💯 and yeah il have a look out for a Corsair mp600 mate seen mixed opinions on the western digital tbf mate and Witchever one I'd get I'd just buy a SSD cloner and hope can find legitimate maybe free software to do it cheers brother much appreciated mate mine is r9 model but tbh I'm still not sure i trust that the SD card slot has been fixed but could be wrong the ssd heatsink thing you done was coolaf too mate💯
Was just coming to say nvm I found it but thanks for the quick response! Just got an ally today and no reviews do it justice I feel it's an amazing device
@Ricky_III heck yeah it’s great. Tons of mods available and a lot of people just aren’t getting the most out of it. Tuning windows is a huge thing too. Hang tight I got a ton of more good Ally videos coming
Fits perfect with a 1mm thermal pad included. Just cut to length. Dont use the backplate it comes with or the brackets. Grab some rubber bands or if you do use the brackets and backplate you’ll need a single sided nvme drive and be careful I prefer using the rubber bands like I have
It’s just seems like you wanna shit on the black heatsink solution cause it not from the company your working with in the most blatantly obvious way. You could have easily added a thicker thermal pad to accommodate for it lack of reach due to the NVME clearance. You simply are bias due to having some skin in the game with the competitor back plate company. If it was just a terrible product that on thing but it’s just really obvious how much your just hell bent on not displaying it in any way positively. You could have put the stock drive back on and tested the black heat spreader with it to see thermals as not everyone can’t afford a new better drive. this could be a cooling solution for those individuals that worked well. It’s just look terrible that in no video have you done this sense this product has come out almost as if your actively avoiding doing so to promote the other company. It just dishonest and shows your bottom line is making money first not informing your viewers of what option they have.
Your wrong. I work with both the same. Neither pay me! Didn’t you hear how hopeful I was in the beginning. I was instantly turned off with the fitment and how it doesn’t have mounting pressure.
Also I just realized you commented on the second part of this saga. Did you not watch the part one to this saga? Did you not hear how high energy and hopeful I was ? I did the test in real time
@@cppctek I watched the entire saga as I been looking into getting a device my self sense I have no interest in getting a ps5 to play there console exclusives and wanted something more portable than playing on my Pc and as a result I found your content looking up possible mods upfront before buying to maximize my experience on it sense it’s gonna be a huge difference from my threadripper set up I have and want to get the most of the device. You showed the black heatsink version in the video and within 5 minutes just really shifted toward the other shell almost immediately with just so lil effort to try to make it work in a stock device set up to really display it possible application in every scenario and it pro and cons if one had X mod that mite not be compatible or it worked with X configuration. I personally think the best solution to Cooling on this device would be to have a shell that has something similarly to this black heat spreader that comes mounted in a similar manner but held in place with the back plate shell letting the fins of the heat spreader come through the back plate as to have them exposed to passively help cool due to having a bigger surface area.
Yes and no, it’s fast enough but so is a school bus. It’s fast enough to get you to school but not fast enough to win races. Sounds dumb but downloading games and updates the transfer speeds can get fully saturated quick plus there’s no dram cache on that model oh and the main point. Was 99.9999999999999% of people doing the 2280 mod would never ever buy an m sata drive in 2024, hell they don’t even make them in 4tb sizes. And they don’t get hot so I need to be able to compare real drives people use rather than some weird niche drive from an ancient era that doesn’t produce enough heat at all to see if the heatsinks actually doing a good job or not.
Also I go into details because I do have a bigger range of viewers who have had all kinds of questions. I try to dive into every possible scenario and cover all my bases. You’d be surprised how much hate you get by leaving one stone un turned. The skip buttons should still work on here if you’re not interested. If you looking for confirmation bias then i simply and not like other channels where I’m dishonest in my findings or try to steer them in a way where it looks better than it really is
My purple backplate is coming in tonight, cant wait to install. I have 2280 ssd on there, i might pickup a ssd heatsink too just want to see how good it is without it. I get peak ssd temp at 63c so im right on the limit

@@cppctek Hey i'm installing it now, I noticed they sent a halfway cut thermal pad to fit the 2280 drive. I was wondering what you used under your drive to reflect the heat? I think i'll use the same setup as you with that cool heatsink

Hi. what did you use for the bands holding the heatsink to the 2280 ssd.
Yes it will but you may have to remove the kick stand. Curved and dimensions are the same
@@cppctek cheers! Thanks bruh
Another great video I still loving the last mode working great still for me thanks
Good to hear. Thank ❤️🤠
@benblitzkrieg yes def use your own thermal pad and check Amazon for the heatsink theres a ton there for cheap with prime shipping too.
thanks for clearing this up, iv been diggin through reddit tryna figure this out, i have a gen 3 crucial 2280 coming tmrw. really hope its not double sided so i can run a flashy heatsink.honestly not worried about the temps would rather it looks cool through the clear back plate
update?
How come you didnt try the jsaux heatsink with the handheld diy case without the 2280? Wouldnt that fit perfectly?
Watch my last video before this where I tested that
@@cppcteki watched your last vid you never actually put them together, you tested the heatsink with the jsaux case and you tested the handheld diy but not together with the heatsink which is frustrating as hell
Hey what’s the best path forward for upgrading storage to 2tb-4tb for someone who doesn’t want to do backplate mods for SSD cooling ?
Looks like we need to do some work while we want to use the Jsaux Heatsink + HandheldDiy Backplate.
Indeed
How about the chunky boi mod with the handheld diy case and stock silicone pad would u say there is a clearance issue between the heatsink and silicone pad with that combo.?
Fits great
@cppctek thankx for the prompt response, love your videos man.
wonder how temps are if you add a cell phone cooler with a peltier cooler in it...has the cold side and a fam on the hot side...i used one that had an internal battery , didnt hafta charge it all the time and lasted least an hour of gaming...
I really did the 2280 mod and using wd blue 2280 gen 3 and iv notes nothing in load times used a 2mm m.2 2280 heat sink no prob
I myself can barely draw a stick figure lol
can you do some more videos with acutal benchmarks and temps etc? would be great :D
I’ll try on the next one.
19:26 you said your temperature is 60 to 70 in which WATT ? And which game ? Thx for the video tho
In your opinion, is the 2280 SSD upgrade a must if it’s so much trouble to fit the heat sink or thermal pad?
its SUPER easy to do, 2280 drives have a much easier way of shedding heat with a full length heatsink, your able to get way better drive prices, sizes and options.
Awesome vid❤
Thanks 😁I really appreciate it! I will have a way higher quality video next. I tested a new capture card from nzxt and I will be reverting back to the og one it looks like lol

@@cppctek Thank You!
Thanks!
💕💕💕💕😎😎😎😎😎🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠 bro thanks so much man ! Glad these videos are helpful to you
You're doing an amazing job selling me on the HandheldDIY backplate but the reddit reviews have been full of QC issues. Any truth to this?
Reddit is a ces pool. The only fitment issues were with the back paddle buttons and that was not just a hhddiy issue. Jsaux too but there’s a super easy fix that’s included with all the hhdiy kits now so you won’t have any fitment issues there. Also I have 4 of them. Zero fitment issues. You can see I don’t even need to run screws they fit so good.
how about you cut half of the heat sink off so you can use it with the 2280?
Nah it’s too much work for too little return
Subbed mate what would be the best and most reliable easy to do ssd mod please mate budget in mind maybe 1 or 2 tb around 100 dollars even less than that be cool as hell as il have to pay a shop to fit it also 😆🤣
they are super easy to install and i wouldnt pay anyone, but it depends if your lookin for the 2280 or 2230 size, if the 2230 stock size get the corsair mp600, if the 2280 get the p3 plus
@@cppctek im definitely gonna look into it most definitely 💯 and yeah il have a look out for a Corsair mp600 mate seen mixed opinions on the western digital tbf mate and Witchever one I'd get I'd just buy a SSD cloner and hope can find legitimate maybe free software to do it cheers brother much appreciated mate mine is r9 model but tbh I'm still not sure i trust that the SD card slot has been fixed but could be wrong the ssd heatsink thing you done was coolaf too mate💯
nothin on purple dpad and buttons?
I’m about to drop more videos. It’s taking me time to edit
What SSD heatsink is that?
The ekwb 2280 I mentioned ? It’s an ekwb brand (the purple one)
Hey would I need to do anything the the ekwb 2280 heatsink or does it just fit snug as a bug?
Fits perfect with a 1mm thermal pad included. Just cut to length. Dont use the backplate it comes with or the brackets. Grab some rubber bands or if you do use the brackets and backplate you’ll need a single sided nvme drive and be careful I prefer using the rubber bands like I have
@cppctek I see some package of what look like rubber bands for brace would those be fine? Also any suggestions for single sided nvme?
Dude a SATA drive is just fine, and IT IS fast enough specially for gaming, WTH are you talking about.
Ive never wanted someone to stop talking and get to the point in my life.
Go watch TikTok :)
Oo heck yeah ! Grab a hestsink for sure. You’d help your drive long term for sure! I know you’re going to love the backplate. Be sure to watch the part in this video where I show the handheld diy install and how to size that thermal pad it comes with properly when your using a heatsink
@@cppctek Hey i'm installing it now, I noticed they sent a halfway cut thermal pad to fit the 2280 drive. I was wondering what you used under your drive to reflect the heat? I think i'll use the same setup as you with that cool heatsink
@calebterr8877 hey that’s awesome they included that now wow 🤯 mind blown. Also I usually cut up part of a Pokémon card sleeve or trading card sleeve. I like using the ones that have the shiny metallic foil look to them on the inside. You can also use card stock or a note card or something that’s just thicker than normal paper that won’t burn easy
@@cppctek actually never mind its the same size I said that cause It fit over my ssd sorry. I will still have to cut it to size when I get my heat sink in. Thanks!
Where can I get the heatsink for the APU
