So true before they were any other movies, we had Indian movies to watch and part of the reasons were the values in those movies. It is very common to see African people speaking Hindi just because they grew up on Indian movies.I wish India would know this and cater to African audiences as well. I am sure we were the first international audiences . Even in the villages they know big B , they call him Don.

Trevor Noah is from South Africa 🇿🇦 we have the largest population of indians outside of India itself. They mostly stay in the province KZN (KwaZulu Natal) Gandhi stayed there too for many years. That's why in south Africa we know everything about Indian food and have spice markets and Hindu temples everywhere

In Zimbabwe we have a pretty big Indian population, folks who have been living here since the 1800s. Right next door to us is South Africa where Trevor Noah is from. They have the largest population of Indians outside of India. Even Mahatma Gandhi lived in South Africa back in the day.
I know Indian people more than you. I went to primary school in a town called Lenasia. The name Lenasia itself is derived from the words Lenz (a military SANDF base) and the word Asia (dominant population) it's like an Indian haven. Mosques everywhere. I even dated a girl names Fatima Ismail and later Sadia Kaloo. Muslims. That's when I learned about the Qu'ran. Back in primary school. Ask me more...

India is a well known country.
I don't know about other places in the world but in Canada where I live there is quite a mix of cultures so you come across Indian facts and even some Indian culture in certain places here. It's actually fairly common knowledge here that Indians see cows as sacred and certain curry dishes are available here at specific places.
As for me personally my first interest in India was the history of the Taj Mahal and I've just been expanding my knowledge of India since.

This! Unfortunately many European countries have done things in the past which is deeply regrettable, but at least most of them today feel horror and sadness about their past. That is a big difference between us and the people across the pond. Very few americans, if any at all, feel anything about all the atrocities their country has commited, and probably will continue to commit. It's been only 20 years since they did the exact thing Russia is doing to Ukraine at the moment, but to Iraq.
Edit: And then I read the other comments and am not to sure about the British anymore. Seems like they still try to justify their empire, unfortunately.

Maybe its the inherited feeling of responsibility that causes british people to feebly attempt to justify or defend it. It does feel like a personal attack to those who are ignorant to the despicable acts, but I am the first to admit when something is wrong.
We did far more good than bad , India as a country wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for the British

When the Brits entered India, it was exporting about 25% of global trade. When you left, that had shrunk to1-2 %. India as a country did exist - the Mughals were there and check the boundary at the time. What an insufferable Brit?
Your understanding goes a long way in building bridges. It was the historical Brits that bore responsibility.

Indian live all over in south Africa...however you will find large concentration of Indians in what was previously known as Indian areas that are townships . Viz Phoenix and Chatsworth and many other areas too where indentured labourers settled like Tongaat Verulam Stanger .... these areas are all in Durban and Kwa Zulu Natal.

I used to live in Hyderabad and got sooo confused with the many Gods also. One day I was conversing with a cab driver and he told me that he's got other Gods but his first God is Jesus, for life, he's got a God for Money, a God this and that... Left me astonished

I think in this video he explains that if India had to be annihilated, South Africa would have the largest Indian population in the world, in one of our regions, called Durban
Only problem with the turning up and colonizing story of his, is that the British started trading with India around 1600 via the East India Company established by Queen Elizabeth I. The trading went on until the 1830s when the British government took over control of the EIC as a government department and India became a colony in the 1850s under Queen Empress Victoria. So it's a nice routine of his but in India's case didn't happen. Happened in some but not many places as the main incentive of the British Empire was trade not conquest for the sale of it unlike the French, Spanish, Dutch and Germans or indeed the Japanese in the 1930s. Ask their colonies if they would rather have been under the British than their actual rulers.
There was no place called India or a people called, it was the Europeans who give it that name.
I am from a British mandate territory and i would prefer being under German rule
Myself being from a colony: I would have preferred to be under nobody's rule. Being enslaved/indentured and in modern times, owing debts to great Britain for the crime of being free from great Britain who came uninvited to my land is not what I personally would consider a 'better deal' than being under the rule of other colonizers. Having no colonizers seems like the best way of life to me 🤷
I'm sure we would have preferred to be left alone.
