Its much harder to get rid of things that are your own vs helping someone else. I've helped others and can clearly tell what should be kept by asking how long they've had it or when was the last time they used it...do you have space for it or do you need more space. Items that don't belong to us dont hold much significance or aren't sentimental. It's nice to have some help in the process without judgement. I need help but won't ask for it because of the judgement but, I offer understanding and help for others. It would be nice to have someone like you. Thank you for helping your mom. It may be hard for her but, she will be happy she did it.

This video really made me miss my mom! We were best friends too! All my life! I lost her 6&1/2 years ago in August. Then 7 months later I lost my eldest daughter when she was only 33. I miss them both terribly! My mom moved in with my husband and I and I took care of her. My husband converted our basement into an apartment for her. I remember going through her house with her and many boxes of her things when she moved in. We too spent many hours reminiscing and deciding what to keep. Those are precious memories. Thank you for bringing them up to me again. Enjoy your mom and your relationship Danielle but I know you do! Keep up the great memories! 💞💞💞💞💞
I’m moving into my moms house this weekend and been bawling my eyes out since I was evicted from the place I’ve lived for 10 years. My mom is a hoarder , and so am I but I’m SO DONE and my mom is willing to let me help her declutter her house.

Oh my, you need a shelf in the basement to store everything properly. Keep the closets empty. She looks like she's having a very difficult time though. A little bit by a little bit. Might want to rethink the suitcases if they are heavy because you are limited in weight which is why they are making them lighter and lighter. I've moved on from minimalizing (I say a new word.) to Swedish death cleaning. As I don't want my kids to have this chore following my death. All that stuff makes me realize I'm your mom's age and you are my oldest sons age. It's a trip down memory lane. Plus you are wearing adorable sandals.

I think it will be fun in the future to have her introspect on buying random things JUST to gift. I was given random crystal over the years and had either given it back to the person who gave it to me after realizing I don't need to have random crystal objects lying around collecting dust- or donated them. I like a good knickknack but one that is truly meaningful; carefully selected with love by the person who gave it to me. Being gifted a random hunk of crystal seems more like a burden unless you actually enjoy and collect crystal.
I always wonder where our parents put the stuff they have filled up in all the bedroom closets, when they were occupied by their kids clothes?! I giggle about your puzzled look with your Mom's responses😅 It is certainly a challenge to encourage decluttering. What they want to keep often defies logic. You helped a lot!
So many closets, theres so many at my parents house, there all full LOL its definitely going to be a process, I knew my mom and I would have fun working together, we always have fun LOL but I was very nervous on how to go about helping her declutter, you saying ive helped a lot, means so much to me. Wouldn't it be ideal if every home had a nice sized seasonal closet with areas for Easter, Christmas, etc, etc decor? A nice sized closet for gift giving related items with areas for wrapping paper, bows, assorted boxes for future gifts that need one, gifts found and purchased throughout the year for future giving. A nice sized maintenance closet wherein could be vaccums, broom, mop, cleaning supplies, etc. And a very nice sized pantry that could house not only many food items, but also appliances that aren't desired to have on the counter or are only used a time or two throughout the year? Dreaming.
All your above mentioned storage dreams are very possible to build, if there is a bit of room accounted for it. Doesn't need to be huge either, when the amount of stuff isn't overboard.

Now now Danni ! There is absolutely nothing wrong with having multiples of necessities such as cleaning supplies/household supplies…I coupon and shop sales and try to always have a reasonable stockpile of things we actually use . Believe me, it came in handy back in early 2020 and even now . I haven’t bought shampoo/conditioner/razors /deodorant/body wash in a few years (actually trying to use up my stockpile now) I have always given things to friends and family who maybe were struggling, every little bit helps .

I was dying of laughter throughout this video, I truly enjoy watching you help your mom but what brings true joy to my heart is your back and fourth banter. Staying true to who you both are. And again, your mom is my kind of woman! She cracks me up! If I lived in MN I would want to be one of her people! I have the same relationship with my daughters- we are honest with each other, roll our eyes at each other and do the whole “ROFLOL” thing when we get together. Good to see your mom getting on the “did you minimalize” band wagon!
I think it will be fun in the future to have her introspect on buying random things JUST to gift. I was given random crystal over the years and had either given it back to the person who gave it to me after realizing I don't need to have random crystal objects lying around collecting dust- or donated them. I like a good knickknack but one that is truly meaningful; carefully selected with love by the person who gave it to me. Being gifted a random hunk of crystal seems more like a burden unless you actually enjoy and collect crystal.
I always wonder where our parents put the stuff they have filled up in all the bedroom closets, when they were occupied by their kids clothes?! I giggle about your puzzled look with your Mom's responses😅 It is certainly a challenge to encourage decluttering. What they want to keep often defies logic. You helped a lot!
So many closets, theres so many at my parents house, there all full LOL its definitely going to be a process, I knew my mom and I would have fun working together, we always have fun LOL but I was very nervous on how to go about helping her declutter, you saying ive helped a lot, means so much to me. Wouldn't it be ideal if every home had a nice sized seasonal closet with areas for Easter, Christmas, etc, etc decor? A nice sized closet for gift giving related items with areas for wrapping paper, bows, assorted boxes for future gifts that need one, gifts found and purchased throughout the year for future giving. A nice sized maintenance closet wherein could be vaccums, broom, mop, cleaning supplies, etc. And a very nice sized pantry that could house not only many food items, but also appliances that aren't desired to have on the counter or are only used a time or two throughout the year? Dreaming.
All your above mentioned storage dreams are very possible to build, if there is a bit of room accounted for it. Doesn't need to be huge either, when the amount of stuff isn't overboard.

Now now Danni ! There is absolutely nothing wrong with having multiples of necessities such as cleaning supplies/household supplies…I coupon and shop sales and try to always have a reasonable stockpile of things we actually use . Believe me, it came in handy back in early 2020 and even now . I haven’t bought shampoo/conditioner/razors /deodorant/body wash in a few years (actually trying to use up my stockpile now) I have always given things to friends and family who maybe were struggling, every little bit helps .
