    Janice seems to have a pretty brilliant strategy. Going into new untapped niches inspired by everyday life, doing Amazon Ads on all of her books on auto-pilot to find new ways to make some sales, keeping her designing process simple with Canva, learning new things all the time, and now trying out Pinterest book promotion...
    Love the way she thinks. Thank you for sharing Rachel, I love all of your interviews. Also, yes, we would love a live Q&A video again, as well!

    My biggest takeaway was to create quality books rather than tons and tons of books. Whenever I read about people that have thousands of low content books, they never follow that by saying they are also making thousands of dollars. Flooding Amazon with junk doesn't work. Your videos are always packed with so much helpful information, Rachel. Thank you for sharing this video.

    • @RachelHarrisonSund
      @RachelHarrisonSund  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for watching! Yes, you're right-quality beats quantity every time. If you need to flood the market with thousands of books in order to make a few hundred bucks a month, you're doing it wrong.

    I appreciate this video. I agree about trying to find something new that fills a need. I really cannot get behind gurus that tell people to look up the best sellers and copy them. For me as an artist and photographer.. The thought of stealing other people's work and ideas is disturbing. Yet we constantly see groups where everyone is copying the number one best selling journal.

    Thank you Rachel! I so loved this interview so helpful! My biggest takeaway is the “First to market” and putting your own spin on another popular design really doesn’t always work. Be a thought leader. When I first started KDP I wanted to create helpful Low- medium content books that went above and beyond. But as a LC book buyer myself I was not always impressed with what others on Amazon were offering. There had to be others like me. Also, being a schooled creative I understood the value of being innovative. The handful of books that consistently sell for me each month (and I’m a hobbiest at this point as I only have under 40 books out there ) are the ones that I created from my cultural awareness+ intuition verified by some lite research I used the free version of Uber suggest for SEO or and have yet to run ads , though I want to learn. My books sell pretty well organically accept one that a TH-cam influencer loved and promoted also organically. So it’s not just about finding the right niche and the right numbers that work , there is way more gray area and that what is hard to replicate the exact success of others. Impressed by another’s success ? Don’t be dominos go and be Pizza Hut!

I bookmarked this interview as there are a lot of nuggets I will want to replay with closed captions on because based on the comments I missed a few things. This was such a great interview, and I especially enjoyed hearing about lottery ads (although I can do nothing with this until I publish some books, but would love if there were some type of tutorial on this. This has been so motivating! And I carry so many insights! I am just starting your course and I couldn't agree more with many things here said:
    1. Rachel, you're the tutor I would love to have in so many areas of my life. The way you explain could not be easier and I thank you for not skipping a single detail in your course. The "over the shoulders series" is so damn helpful and is what makes you stand out form the rest. I highly appreaciate the passion, the effort and the easy way you put things out there.
    2. I don't have a design background. But as Janice said, I think I can also start with Canva.
    Btw, you might want to consider creating a full design course because you really have talent on teaching things and people like me really need some help in this area.
    3. I also thought just like Janice about starting in a new market but I was scared. I am working on my first book which is rather in the mainstream section, but now I have gotten the motivation to try with something more or less new.
    4. You, girls, are a huge inspiration. I have made many changes in my life over the past two years and being 28 I was feeling kind of lost but listening to your stories has given me a lot of empowerment! Also you're more than right about the perseverance and the need to not only sit there and watch videos, but to really take action.

    Takeaway: Be unique, innovative and keep learning. To create low and medium content books, we need to have your head stuffed with high content. I agree with Janice on so many points and yet, I have also heard testimonies from successful KDP people who had a totally different strategy on some very important points. There is no miracle recipe for success but with good ingredients we are likely to make a tasty KDP soup many will like.

    • @nonscreenactivitiesforkids
      @nonscreenactivitiesforkids 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You will already have sales and reviews by this point so any copycats are on the back foot by the time the niche is discovered. However, sales will drop over time as more people discover the niche. I think the niches get discovered whether you advertise or not because some companies have software that they offer to look for best sellers and new niches.

    How do you do ads with kdp?

    Really motivating, such a great interview. It did make me think of a question, when it comes to authors I know you mention not using keywords but can you create a publishing brand and put that in as the name or should you use a 'persons name' (ie one you've made up)? Which is preferable?

      Amazon prefer a name that sounds like a person

    Does your class teach only low (no) content books or all activity books, planners, journals etc?

      Hi Angela! The process I teach inside Low-Content Profits Academy is relevant to all no / low content books, including activity books, planners, journals, coloring books, etc.

    Does a pen name have to sound like a person’s name or can it be a brand name? I see a lot of pen names like “pretty simple planners” but I heard that Amazon doesn’t like that?

    • @Yespls888
      @Yespls888 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can be a brand name

    • @AL6198
      @AL6198 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think pen names sounding like a person's name are the safest. A brand name can be OK, but the day the words you have chosen become keywords, then you might be in hot water. The rules on Amazon keep changing. The names you see stuffed with keywords are probably from businesses which started when stuffing keywords into your name was allowed, but dangerously frowned upon these days.

    hello Rachel,
    If Amazon blocked 5 different books due to trademarks will it affect their KDP account?
    Thanks

    • @RachelHarrisonSund
      @RachelHarrisonSund  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It might. KDP takes trademark infringement very seriously, so it can definitely put a person's account in jeopardy.

      Remember to check trademarks for the UK and Canada as well as the US if you are also publishing in these countries
