    It is a beautiful production of ocean sealife but did not project the issues I was looking forward to knowing. I was saddened to discover the coral life has already been decimated over the decades=absent the vibrant colors I grew up swimming over.. The scenes of sealife are wonderfully awesome . Too much sand evidence the destructionce of our coral and reefs.

    The climate will and has always been changing. Man can not change that nor has control over it. Beautiful video!

    • @whynottalklikeapirat
      @whynottalklikeapirat 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Janet - I truly wish that was so. But the current scientific consensus is that we are now way beyond known parameters of climate change, and that human activity is demonstrably a major driver of a rapidly escalating process.
      As a dive instructor I have probably seen more of the sea than the average person. I am deeply greatful for having witnessed such splendour. It is a transformative experience. I have also witnessed the decline of corals and fish populations and the increase of man made debris over time, with great sadness.
      The familiarity with the beauty of healthy seas makes the state of affairs in terms of climate all the more piercing to me.
      I am not a climate expert myself, but as a working academic I do come across the underlying science on a fairly regular basis, and I listen to colleagues who are national experts on the matter. The perspectives, as far I have been able to gather so far - are nothing short of horrifying. That's the most accurate word I can use. What appears to be requiered of us now as a species, within the next 5-15 years is politically, economically, socioculturally and perhaps even psychologically unprecedented, and even so we may be out of runway for any kind of take-off.
      The stakes are not dealing with some social upheaval and making a few uncomfortable adjustments of to current civilisation. Within the next few years we will pass out of the range where civilisation as we know it is salvageable, unless we somehow manage to do what has never been done before. Technology alone will not do it for us. It may not even reach a point where it can do anything, in time. The stakes are not even merely the survival of humankind either, but that of the planet as whole, once we go beyond certain critical parameters. These mark boundaries that when enough of them are breached - there are no known forces that will prevent exponential, runaway global warming.
      Personally - I am at a point where I am just trying to clear space in my work schedule so that I can do more in-depth research myself. There are things I feel like I still need to know, more about, which will determine whether or not the rest of my life from this point will be exclusively devoted to taking some kind of short term survival measure, for the sake of the children of my brother and sister and the rest of our generation. I do not find this to be an appealing task. It involves things with which I have little familiarity and I calls upon me to lay aside the things I enjoy and which I am good at, and do whatever may be necessary, or maybe just simply what seems humanly meaningful.
      Regardless of what may come, I will not live in denial.
      Sincerely

    • @ijustgottasaythis
      @ijustgottasaythis 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@whynottalklikeapirat So, basically, you are telling Janet that you are going to have to do more "research". You will know then whether you need to take some kind of "short term survival measure, for the sake of the children of my brother & sister and the rest of our generation." Regardless of what may come, YOU will not live in denial. I was moved by your words. The future is predicated on unprecedented knowledge. We don't know what we know until the truth is so obvious that we can't deny it. Please do whatever you can to improve the conditions of bad, "Global Warming". You are not alone. I loathe the term. Janet may not be totally right though. Man, has incidentally changed and is deliberately attempting to change the climate, i.e. the Billionaire, Bill Gates with his "Geo-engineering for cooler climate". Do what you can but that survival idea is yours to decide upon. Do you want to live in a post apocalyptical world? We both run-on a bit, but actions speak louder than words.

    • @whynottalklikeapirat
      @whynottalklikeapirat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ijustgottasaythis Geologists call this era the anthropocene becaus it is characterized exactly by the fact that mankind has become a significant geological force. It is very clear that we have the power to severely impact the planet, however this does not mean that we are in control of the process or the consequences. It just means we are a geological force pushing into the territory of the irreversible. There will be no human life - maybe not even microbial life in that kind of "apocalyptical world". There will not be "sad, unpleasant life" there will be no or barely any life. That's the trajectory. Geo-engineering as far as I know, remains more or less speculative at this point and sadly noone has any idea what consequences that might bring about, granted the complexity of the problem. None of the technologies really currently exist and who knows how long it will take to get anywhere with that. The perspective is truly daunting. The politics are too slow, the structural changes insufficient and the technologies needed are not in development, the problem is barely well enough understood, except to say - it's manifest.
